The last time they did a retirement show on Saturday Night Main Event, Goldberg had his shit cut off a couple minutes in and got pissed off about it. At least with Peacock it has no time limit and no damn commercials every 15 minutes I also find it interesting that Cena wanted to put NXT talent on his final show to represent the future and it is very likely that every single one of them could lose tonight. I would think Sol Ruca is beating Bayley but it wouldn't surprise me if they pull the Zaria heel turn tonight Oba could beat Cody. I don't think he will but he could. Cena lost to Owens that one time. Cody has nothing going on, he can afford the loss
hammerva Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 (edited) So Cena vs Gunther is the main event now? One bullshit finish down. I guess that protects Oba Kevin Owens in the crowd . And Elias because sure why not Edited December 14, 2025 by hammerva
Cobra Commander Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 Cena and Gunther have the same hairstyle, or at least 95% of the same hairstyle. Gunther is less bald though. do you get disqualified for knocking over the Prime drink display at ringside? the FU through the table was sufficiently bonkers neither big time FU got the win, Cena needs to break out the Heart Punch we need an announcer to Gorilla Monsoon it and never shut the fuck up about sloppy covers gotta love HHH's decades long dedication to making fans sad at the end of shows (Gunther beating Cena is better for the company going forward, but I can understand why all those plants who sold their kidneys to sit ringside are pissed/sad that Cena lost his final match)
hammerva Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 (edited) Cena did exactly what Danielson did in his "final match" last year. Because they both get this shit Even though the crowd hates it. it is the right call Edited December 14, 2025 by hammerva 4
Eivion Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 (edited) Oba/Cody went about how I expected with the match serving more as a teaser of what's to come. I liked what we got before the non-finish and a comment by Cole gives me a glimmer of hope its the Wrestlemania main event for 2026 as it should be. Sol/Bayley was quite nice with Sol getting in an excellent showcase. Dug the finish and thought it offered both Bayley and Sol's finish some protection while still putting over Sol ultimately. AJ/Dragon vs. Je'Von/Leon was good fun aside from that bad fall at the end for AJ. Slater covered for that well when he rushed for the pin. Was glad to see them able to recover enough for the finish. Cena/Gunther was good. Kind of dug the finish being Cena resolved in his fate after failing to stay out of the sleeper so many times. The post match with the tribute to Cena was nice. Wasn't expecting the crowd to hijack it a bit to shit on HHH though I can understand given the booking and Cena finally tapping after so many years (still the right finish). For Great Justice Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 (edited) “Tonight, professional wrestling destroyed sports entertainment” was quite the call by Cole at the end, that felt like something with corporate intent behind it. I wonder if they start move away from the SE phrasing now. Edited December 14, 2025 by For Great Justice 1
Niners Fan in CT Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 I don't believe in the whole "going out on your back tradition" just for the sake of tradition. I think it all depends on what leads up to it. Since Gunther and Cena didn't really have much of a story to begin with, there's really no right answer. Sting and Darby beating the Bucks was 10000% the right move for Sting and that story. First, I have to point out how awesome the match was. Cena really brought it tonight and went out like a true legend. Gunther was obviously great too. I loved this match. It was electric. The crowd chanting "DON'T GIVE UP!" almost had me tearing up because that's his whole gimmick... So now that I'm thinking more about it, there was no real story here with the two, I think it would have been fine for Cena to go over. His whole gimmick for 20 years was "never give up" and he taps out to end it. That's kind of weird. The Oba/Cody finish was weak sauce. Triple H deserved to get booed. Lazy as fuck. 2
hammerva Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 My only negative on the ending of the show was that the tribute video feels like shit they found 3 years ago and just replaced a few clips. That shit was lazy 4
Cobra Commander Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 cut to Vince in a South Florida mansion trying to remember some phone numbers so he can talk about how he would have put Cena over Gunther and sent the fans home happy
GodzillaPerez Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 (edited) Well they wrecked it at the very end but I really liked the match. That about sums up WWE for me. Edited December 14, 2025 by GodzillaPerez 2

Sting and Darby beating the Bucks was 10000% the right move for Sting and that story. Just like the Cena heel turn, it only works depending on the future. I am using the Danielson vs Moxley match in my defense. After that they made the Death Riders absolute killers so they didn't waste it. Hell the argument is the over did it. Gunther should be in world title situation for months if you are doing this. If we look back in 2 or 3 months and be like "hey remember when Gunther beat Cena" then this was fucking stupid
Cobra Commander Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 I was smelling "FU off the stairs to the floor" instead of "FU off the stairs through the table"... which, to be fair, the table bump is a lot smarter than doing that move onto the floor, which is among the reasons why I don't book spots in matches but yeah, there could be a bit of a "send the fans home happy" vs "the machine marches on" conflict with that match finish

Dude has the “if this were a real sport, he’s the best wrestler for real” gimmick, has Goldberg equity and now Cena equity, and you fed him to the tag dude that got Fandango hot Edited December 14, 2025 by For Great Justice 4
Cobra Commander Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 also, best of luck to John the first time he has to turn down the idea of stepping away from movies to be the frontman for a Rock & friends coup to remove HHH from corporate power

The crowd would still be pissed off most likely but you still put over Gunther in a big way BUT Cena gets to stay true to his character as "never giving up." Cena tapping out at the end was really weird when that ignores 20 years of who the character is. 3
Andrew POE! Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 Gunther winning via submission was the wrong call. John Cena should have won. Gunther makes Alex Wright and Dean Malenko look like exciting wrestlers and, if you have trouble falling asleep, just listen to his promos. I keep hoping someone completely goes off script and eviscerates him on the mic the next Raw. He can't cut a promo to save his life. If WWE chooses him to build around, they have problems.
Cobra Commander Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 hopefully we don't get evil heel authority figure HHH out of all this

Vince would have put over Cena. HHH is too attached to the 'historical business performance' shit like 'the guy always lays down'. Probably Cena too. Not that they're wrong, but in this situation, very much so. Now lets see them scrub the anti-Hunter chants from all future showings of this match like you just know will happen. Oh... somebody needs to post the "Cody kissing mat" photo here haha Spoiler 1
Niners Fan in CT Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 Just now, Cobra Commander said: hopefully we don't get evil heel authority figure HHH out of all this He's having a lot of fun with this clearly and he's on record wanting to be some Dana White type figure. Fans are already getting restless. I'm interested if he and TKO can truly kill their business.

hammerva Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 (edited) I also admit that my opinion of the finish is ALOT easier because I only paid about $10 a month to see this. If I paid about $350 to sit in nose bleeds and saw that I would probably chant bullshit too Edited December 14, 2025 by hammerva 3
Curt McGirt Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 It's just that Cena shouldn't tap. If you aren't gonna put him over, don't completely bury his gimmick making him GIVE UP. I can't believe I'm giving this bullshit this much consideration, really. He should just be happy he doesn't have to take the Saudi money anymore. 4

Curt McGirt Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 We sure do like to pretend that these people have morals.
Cobra Commander Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 if the WWE actually had a face who (on-screen) didn't give a fuck about all the TKO-era ads and nonsense, it's possible that guy might actually get over a bit (I say "on-screen" since well obviously).. there's probably a wide opening for "the affordability brand" in this industry that probably won't get driven through since it might be a tad too topical to do that 1 minute ago, odessasteps said: Not to mention turning down the oil money to work SaidiMania next year.
