On the surface, him being a substitute as a tag wrestler would make it easier to plug him to do a bunch of jobs.  Or maybe these would be the matches Darby would have won and Coach Tony is still following the mapped out plan?

 

Considering how well booked and planned the tournament was (in terms of going into the final round with every match being meaningful), I would say he did everything Darby was booked to do. Including taking lasting damage early on and having an injury to overcome in every single match.

Yeah, this year sucks for all that shit, and there was the Oklahoma situation that happened to AEW and Nyla as well. It’s weird that they’re not even using her on ROH or in dark matches to the best of my knowledge, if you’re concerned about people complaining about TV. 

Thinking about it, Nyla wasn’t the best example, although I think people online have been exaggerating her ability and place on the card because of their memories and loyalty to the early days. I would say the same for most of the Dark Order as well, but they still get ROH and dark matches and an occasional TV appearance.

The AEW women’s division has been hyper-focused on the same 10-12 women this year, and has sort of gotten to the point where they don’t need to have those gatekeeper lower-midcard wrestlers like a Nyla to build someone up and put someone over. But that would be perfect for ROH.

People are making great points about Jack Perry slotting well into the Darby booking plans as far as being a name, bumping, and being able to eat a pin.

Today is the five year anniversary of Mr. Brodie Lee's passing. Remember the shock when the news broke and the resulting tribute show, the best tribute show ever. RIP Mr. Brodie Lee.

I thought she was injured or retired but all this time she's been wrestling in other companies and was/is a champion in one. I think she works backstage for AEW but it's super frustrating that she doesn't wrestle. The troubling part is when TK was asked about it in a scrum he kind of brushed it off. If it was due to Oklahoma's commission then they can forever fuck off for that.

Have Nyla wrestle Serpentico in OKC, honestly I think she needs a character reset as a face. Maybe just have her work Japan for a while if need be.

I would love to ask her candidly how much, if any, of her low profile is her choice. In our current political climate, it might just be more prudent to take the paycheck, work Indies and backstage at AEW, and wait for brighter days. I'm not saying that's what's happening, I'd just love to hear Nyla's honest opinion on the subject...

Whatever the case may be, it’s an Anna Jay/Britt Baker situation of the women’s division passing her by as well. When she was getting a push in 2019/2020, that division was in some dire straights. Britt was feuding with Big Swole for fucks sake. Nyla was a good choice, especially against someone like Riho. Where do you even slot her in now? As a monster I guess, sure, but does that even work when you’ve got powerhouses like Stat and Hayter and Willow?

I’m sure some of it is due to the political climate and athletic commissions being stupid, but I’d also say there’s just not a spot there for her anymore. She’s moved into a backstage role and still gets to take dates with indies and AEW’s partners (EVE). Charlotte Flair has pointed out the hypocrisy before, but Nyla Rose is also in her 40s. Who’s to say she didn’t want to take a step back because of that and also how tense it is currently for transgender athletes?

It’s easy to point fingers and say AEW is being malicious, which is what the original post seems like it was doing, but this also isn’t the company that has its figurehead doing promotional videos for the White House.

Nyla's spot in AEW for a good while after her title run was, whenever the Women's title changed hands, they would usually give Nyla the first shot at the new Champion. As a way of legitimising them as Champion, by having them defeat a) a former Champion and b) a Monster. But that seemed to end eventually.

Tony Khan states that women main eventing an AEW PPV would necessitate the right match, right time, and right situation:

“It’s very potentially possible. It has to be the right match, the right situation, at the right time. If there were ever two that could do it, it would be the two you mentioned,” Khan said of Mercedes Moné and Toni Storm, specifically. “But there’s a bunch of other candidates for it as well. It was a fantastic match. They had it All In: Texas. That was a main-event-caliber match. It really felt that way. It was presented as one of the main matches on the card.”

In fairness, they knew Mariah was leaving the company right after, so I see why they didn't pull the trigger there.

Toni/Mercedes was the only other obvious candidate. It's probably gonna be a while before another legit one presents itself. Mercedes finally winning the big one would work, or a Toni death match with the right partner. Both would be much easier to arrive at if Stat had committed to full heel.
