I wanna see Toni Storm get blasted in the face with a mirror or Darby set on fire. Cutting back on how many spots involve digging for weapons wouldn’t be the worst thing. A certain amount of weapons could be smuggled into the ring (good news to anybody who likes thumbtack spots). Stuff like WWE Wargames where every entrant went under the ring to get stuff was a bit much too. Having a “ref gets the key stolen” thing in both matches might have been a little too repetitive. Although in the case of B&G, it’s totally not wargames so it can try to carve its own path And they wouldn’t have done the Briscoe comeback if they had the teams at ringside all match like Wargames (also a slight “if they’re at ringside, why wouldn’t they fight” question that I think the modern WG thinks a lot about) I was considering the scenario where Moxley surrenders to a hold where there’s a 5-on-1-ish advantage and how his teammates would have instantly beat his ass for quitting

The women def delivered but the end was super jank. Willow superplexes Bayne between the rings (gnarly bump), but then Willow sells it all the way to end of the match while Bayne is up seconds later for the finish, which itself was painfully melodramatic and overwrought. Typical AEW in that they clearly planned out the spots they wanted to do but making them logical in the match was a seondary consideration. Also it may have worked better if it was the other way around with Tony taking the punishment and Mina throwing in the towel because she knew Toni would never quit. Hangman vs Hobbs ruled and that back body bump - christ! I look forward to Hobbs's main event heel run in 2027 hopefully. Mens B&G had some strong parts but once again leaning on Gabe Kidd interference is so lazy. Is he actually going to lead to anything satisfying, i.e. Darby beating him? Probs not. They should have had him the match itself given how PAC is so obviously uninterested in these types of matches. They could have easily shaved 10 minus out and had a better match. That said, I thought the end sequence with the about to murder Kyle, OC making the save, the babyface comeback, leading to Mox tapping out, was excellent. Just a shame they had Darby do the pointless flaming table bump to take him out from the finish, given he is the main protagonist of this program. Good call on the finish of the ladies match. Totally agree with your take on the show. I’d love it if they did the original war games style entrances (ready by the ring) rather than full running down the aisle (or from the back. That would require the matches to actually stay in the cage. All that said, I did think the Death riders (Marina included) all individually looked really iconic coming thru the audience - very well shot. Outside of Toni and Skye, too many of the ladies looked like they were entering some sort of fun gas passing contest rather than a ‘war’. I love Willow, but the smile down to the ring gimmick wasn’t working here (despite whatever story Excalibur was trying to concoct). I’d love to know what happened with Julia/Skye fishing around the turnbuckles for nothing - doesn’t seem like you need to hide weapons in the first place. Bayne throwing a chair in Hayter’s face provided a gasp - hoping Hayter is okay. Bayne looked mostly great, but that worried me. I love Mark Briscoe, but I really don’t get the choice to no sell the Callis family attack. Also, production being on him for the cutting of the chain, while seemingly revealing the door was closed by a latch, was some serious wrestlecrap. Mark having an issue getting in the cage would be more effective if the matches actually stayed in the Cage. None of my qualms with either of the matches outweighs KOR getting that big victory. Really happy for one of the most underrated guys in the company. Mox-KOR have told one of the best stories this year. The eruption! Beautiful! Edited November 13, 2025 by HarryArchieGus 1

Bayne throwing a chair in Hayter’s face was a bit mind boggling - hoping Hayter is okay. 1. Me too, hopefully Meltz or somebody gets that found out 2. Briscoe (I think it was him) also got a full-on headshot from a chair and I wonder if they either got permission or got chewed out over it. Overall it feels like you can pick both matches to pieces for flaws and general grandiosity/over-stuffed-ness, but if you just look at them as good, not-so-clean fun then they're perfectly fine. Me, I got to see buckets of blood and a bed of nails and two good finishes so I'm happy. 3
Casey Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 Blood & Guts is the one time a year they let Mark Briscoe either take an unprotected chair shot or dish one out (Jack Perry). 2

If I were to nitpick the list of annoyances would make for a far far lengthier list. I would say your not-so-clean statement is true of a lot of AEW. And I subscribe as much as possible. Yeah, these matches are very much more in your wheelhouse than mine. Still, I enjoyed them, and especially with the aid of the ffwd button for skimming. Edited November 13, 2025 by HarryArchieGus 1

I do think the AEW ones tend to hit a spot once everyone is in where there's some waiting around to get to the finish stretch. We shouldn't romanticize the old War Games matches. There was a lot of dull downtime and they typically ended with some absolute bullshit like JJ Dillon getting submitted, the very definition of "how do we get out of this?" booking. Curt McGirt Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 I wasn't accusing you of nitpicking, specifically, I just meant the criticism all around from everyone. These matches are probably inherently flawed. It might be best to just turn ones brain off and let them wash over you. 1

Best she's ever looked in the ring. Maybe she should just go full-on STOP THE SHAFIR I fully back this suggestion. Don't have much to say that hasn't been said. I'm sure it surprises no one that I loved this shit. Loved the first Women's B&G starting with probably two of the biggest sickos and my two personal favorites in Skye and Willow. My memory sucks so I don't remember the endings of other B&G matches. As a result, I felt Toni submitting felt very fitting for their onscreen relationship. Men's B&G went a little long but ended how it should have. I think they've built Kyle well and him submitting Mox felt earned. Claudio looked like the biggest badass during his entrance. Just a massive walking weapon. Edited November 13, 2025 by RazorbladeKiss87 5

Skye and Julia need to work Japan against some super stiff ladies. Stardom would work, just have Thekla "send them" to wreck Stardom in her place. Not that the Sisters of Sin are bad, but tightening up their offense is the one thing missing for both of them, and Japan is the best place to learn that, you're not really gonna learn that in CMLL. 4
Zimbra Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 Good thread. The parallelism of the finishes, with Toni tapping out to save her love and Mox tapping out to save his own ass, was really well done. One of my long-time criticisms of AEW is that things all seem to happen on their own separate islands but the two BnG matches really felt like they were in conversation with one another. 6

JLowe Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 (edited) I’ve seen people here and on Bluesky say the BnG matches were too long but honestly when I saw the actual runtime of each match I was shocked because they each felt like 30 minutes to me. My wife, who loves Toni Storm and Harley Cameron, watched the Women’s Blood and Guts with me and loved it. We both freaked out for the Julia Hart crawling out of the cage through that support, it was like something out of a horror movie. And once again, I think of how I became an instant fan of Skye Blue on Dark as this spunky (and cute) babyface being the biggest advocate for this match and going full death match sicko. Speaking of my wife, she didn’t see the Men’s but was looking at photos on Reddit afterwards and wants to watch it now. I did spoil the Darby getting thrown through flaming tables and then having to roll to put himself out, but not the OC pocket staples spot. I might have mentioned it in my immediate afterthoughts post but I loved that they left some of the debris from the Women’s match to get used in the Men’s. I was SQUIRMING when Mox had the mirror frame up by KOR’s face. At the end of the day, getting to see two of my underrated favorites (Skye and KOR) getting a big boost made me very happy. I do agree that Skye (and Julia) should do a Japan tour. Maybe Skye and Kyle Fletcher can go together. Edited November 14, 2025 by JLowe 9

Definitely the best of the men's Blood & Guts matches in my opinion. 1
username Posted November 14, 2025 Posted November 14, 2025 BTW I think it'd probably be better for the Death Riders to disband in the wake of Mox's failures (you know, like the NWO should have done with Hogan) rather than try to continue on as is without him as there isn't a single person in the group other than him who is really cut out to lead the group. Claudio and Pac are great in-ring wrestlers but don't really have the chops outside of it to pull that off (they've each been around 20ish years by now, if they could we'd have likely seen it by now), Yuta has the heat but not the credibility, Garcia just got here after his own struggles and Gabe Kidd... well fuck Gabe Kidd really. Sometimes it's better for things to just end. 4
