Miranda & Nixon apparently burned their bridge with AEW over… the length of the match. Had nothing to do with losing.

wow.

Extremely disappointing for Nixon and Miranda who would be a perfect fit for AEW. Obviously they have no clout to pull such a move, but I think the worst aspect is that it makes it look like they don't have much awareness of the company they were presumably auditioning for. It's not uncommon for AEW debuts to have a few competitive losses before signing and getting pushed later. Second, their opponents here have more than paid their dues in AEW and have a much better argument for being overlooked and needing a good showcase. Going out and making some of the AEW women OGs look good would've easily gotten their foot in the door and their talent/real-life appeal would certainly get them more exposure down the road. Extremely short-sighted and a waste of talent.

guessing there wouldn't be any AEW people who'd do the "ask for more time for your match and leave if they don't give it to you" rib to fuck around with them.. because that would be something someone would do in one of the more toxic WWE eras

but yeah, you're not allowed to have matches inexplicably go through commercial breaks until you get a contract, duh

it's not like this promotion doesn't have a ton of women's wrestlers and an unofficial quota where they're not allowed to take too much time in the show, which some blame on WBD

Further, I don't think TK actually wants these guys doing Indies and risking potential injury. The fact that the shows are booked so closely to the day means he also wants to be able to call on anybody at any point. With Collisions generally happening on Saturdays, it makes it even more difficult to book Indies.

Willow, Kris Stat, Nyla and Alex Windsor all worked the Pro Wrestling Eve show in London on Friday evening. So Willow (if not all 4 of them) was in Houston on Wednesday and Saturday, but on the other side of the Atlantic in between.

Respect the hustle!

Yeah maybe AEW could have made it more like a 87 or 88 Crockett Cup and load the first round with more qualifying matches so they could have gotten some shine.  But the way it was set up, they were the bottom seed and probably should have known it

That's the same magic of television that allowed Kyle Fletcher to cut a promo backstage with Renee & Okada in a full suit, change into his gear and immediately wrestle, and  to then towel off and get back in his suit for the backstage segment with Don Callis and Mox.

Jokes aside, them getting to London in two days with the air traffic problems (and they were leaving from HOUSTON?) is pretty amazing. Almost makes you think AEW is at, as Kingston says, the "private jet" stage. I wonder how long their wait times were.

Just watched last night's show. Some good surprises. I wasn't expecting FTR to lose going into their world title shot; I just hope they're going to use the loss to set up future angles and not cram the Bang Bang Gang into a three-team match at Full Gear. I'd much rather see FTR vs Brodido two-on-two.

And I didn't think Roddy had any chance of beating Mox. Interesting to see how well the faces having the advantage in the men's match will work.

To be fair, those backstage segments had the "from Wednesday Dynamite" bug on the bottom left corner.

Looking at the match times last night in relation to the “can our loss go longer than 3 minutes” and theorizing that there’s a siren that goes off in the WBD offices if there’s too much women’s wrestling on the shows

The match times last night were 14/14/2/10/12/18 minutes with the three women’s matches going 2/10/12. Which probably fits with the norms.

Obviously this isn't the norm. It's an awfully nice favour to Pro Wrestling Eve. What's the connection?

Bad look for Miranda Alize and Nixon Newell. Dumb move. Won't be brought back. Quickest burned bridge ever? Only other I can think of is Teddy Hart in ROH, 2003. Shoutout to Hyan and Maya World. Sign them.

Yeah, Hyan/Maya World provided exactly the kind of strong win TayJay needed. I thought Tay Jay looked really good here. Better than they have in awhile. Too bad on Newell. I thought she looked really good in her one match. It did sound like the heat was more on Miranda Alize, who I can't say has stood out to me any kind of positive way.

Will Ospreay is a big part of EVE.

(Speaking of which, Houston was hot pretty much all night. If they want a PPV, he should give it to them.)

I will touch on this exact point, plus more when I do my full write-up of our night on Collision, tomorrow!

I think you are all crazy and are missing how genius Nixon Newell is, now when people first think of her it'll be about potential attitude issues instead of how horribly injury prone she is; she may have finally shed that label~

Despite Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize's comments, there is bad blood after they walked out of AEW Collision on November 1. The expectation is they won't be booked by the promotion again and there was surprise within AEW when they were booked for November 1 after issues during their debut match against Megan Bayne and Marina Shafir.

“Let me tell you something. I heard from a lot of people and what was amazing was I was hearing from people as the show was going on. People weren’t even waiting until the show was over. I mean, maybe Tony told them there was no hard feelings. Hard feelings is the wrong word, bad blood, I don’t know how you would term it, but there were so many people that were like, ‘What a stupid thing to do.’ That’s the one thing I heard over and over, ‘What a stupid thing to do.’”

Such a stupid thing to do. The artist formally known as Tegan Nox said she can't get bookings. No wonder.

There's a part of me that respects what these girls did. I think, in general, wrestlers need to be more protective of their image. It's an opportunity, but not all opportunities are equal. If they really did pull that off without burning the bridge, it may work out for them in the long run. It may totally bite them in the asses and tank their prospects with AEW, too, but I respect the choice.

Posted

I'd be more worried about it tanking my prospects with everyone else. If you can't lay down and especially if you will walk on a major company, that makes you look bad even to the indies.

Possibly they think they're playing 4D Chess, and this controversy will be enough to propel them to WWE (or back to WWE, in Nixon's case). But that's giving them a huge amount of credit.

It's a shame though, that this is overshadowing what was a pretty good Collision TV show.

The absolutely crazy thing is that if they had done the match, people on the internet would have been up in arms about it only being 3 minutes long, how much TK hates women's wrestling, etc. and so on, and they would have been far better off with far more wind in their sails despite deep disdain for Alize's instagram posts or whatever. Instead the entire fanbase has turned on them.

It's not about being protective of their image so much as it's about not understanding the market and the fanbase and how to manipulate public opinion.

It’s good to note, but really poor formatting nonetheless. It’s not good to jar your viewers with what feels like an inconsistency. The fact that it happens so often feels like Mansury isn’t paying close enough attention to his own production. I find their insistence of never showing ‘last week’ or ‘this week on dynamite’ to open the shows a mistake. It’s not something that positively separates themselves from their competition. Setting the table for the show at the beginning of the night helps build the overall atmosphere.
