Step 1: create various secondary titles

Step 2: annual match where all the champs with secondary titles are put in a cage and the last two out face off and the loser's title is abolished

TK announced the creation of the AEW National title - to be defended across AEW, NJPW, CMLL, the indies, etc. So basically what the All Atlantic title was. A battle royale for the title will be at Full Gear.

I don’t even care anymore about all the titles, go off king. Put that shit on Yoshinobu Kanemaru or something.

i really have no problem with the number of titles created, but i do question why we are creating a new title to replace the All-Atlantic International American International Title just a few short months after unifying it with the Continental.

and also crowning a brand champion in the same timeframe as the first ever Women's Tag Team champions. And in a battle royal, with zero build up until this point. Makes it automatically feel like a "lesser-than" belt.

With then women's tag title tournament going on and the continental classic theoretically starting soon I can see even TK thinking that three simultaneous tournaments is a little much.

But that's an argument for holding off, not for doing the battle royal thing.

Maybe they want the belt ready to be defended at WK so they need time for the champ to get challenged

but if they don't run all this now, before the CC, how will we ever get time to run the Owen?    [/s]

They've announced the Casino Gauntlet will be at ROH's Final Battle.

Have they? allelitewrestling.com still says it's happening at Full Gear.

I read it incorrectly, the title will have its first defense at Final Battle!

Hiroshi Tanahashi's last match will be against...

Spoiler

Fitting one of the most legendary feuds in wrestling history will have one last entry. Wrestle Kingdom 7, 9, 10 and now 20. Tanahashi vs. Okada got me into following NJPW regularly in 2012 to present day.

that won’t stop Super J Cast and podcasts like it from saying TK blocked New Japan from working out a deal with Nakamura.

Once Takeshita beat ZSJ people should have expected it to not be Nalamura, I don’t know if WWE would be willing to let one of there guys appear on a card main evented by someone appearing on AEW tv every week.
Plus there’s a nonzero chance one or more EVP of AEW could be on the same card too.

C&P f4wonline.com:

NJPW held a press conference in Tokyo on Sunday to officially confirm Kazuchika Okada as the opponent for Hiroshi Tanahashi’s retirement match at Wrestle Kingdom 20.

During the press conference, Tanahashi reminded Okada that he still has a 2-1 record against him in the Tokyo Dome. However, he also noted that Okada has won their last four singles matches.

Tanahashi said:

“In the last few years I’ve lost a lot to Okada, I’ve lost our last four or five. There aren’t many who retire with a win (but that) with an opponent like Okada, I will give my absolute best. I plan on having people saying I can still go, not that I’m broken down.”

When asked about Okada being his final opponent, Tanahashi continued:

“In the end, I wanted someone I had a deep connection to.”

While neither would give away much regarding how the match came together, Okada says he knew he had to be Tanahashi’s final opponent as soon as he heard his longtime rival was retiring.

“I knew it had to be me,” Okada said. “There are a lot of people in NJPW and other companies that wanted to wrestle Tanahashi and won’t get the chance, so I’ll carry those hopes with me.”

Okada also stated that he won’t be back to his NJPW Rainmaker character for the match, but rather he will be the new AEW version.

“I won’t be the old Rainmaker from NJPW, I’ll be the AEW Rainmaker. In AEW I’m really doing whatever I want, so I might just hit Tanahashi low, roll him up and send everyone home crying.”

“At the Tokyo Dome, I want there to be a lot of tears, on a lot of levels,” he continued.

Wrestle Kingdom 20 will be the fourth Tokyo Dome match between Tanahashi and Okada. Tanahashi won at Wrestle Kingdom 7 and 9 before Okada finally got a win at Wrestle Kingdom 10. Okada has won their last four singles matches, in the G1 Climax tournament in 2019, 2021, at Battle in the Valley 2023, and New Beginning 2024.

Notes from today’s press conference in Tokyo are available on NJPW1972.com

I want Hiroshi Tanahashi to win and I want Tanahashi vs. Okada to go on last.

Dave Meltzer:

— Kazuchika Okada will be facing Hiroshi Tanahashi in Tanahashi’s retirement match on 1/4 at the Tokyo Dome. Okada flew to Japan to appear at Anjo and come out after Tanahashi beat Yuto Ice.  He was also at a press conference today  saying that Saturday was a throwback with his old music and Gedo, and Gedo will be with him  at the Tokyo Dome,  but he’s coming as AEW Okada not New Japan Okada.  He said he might beat Tanahashi with a low blow and humiliate him in his retirement match.

— New Japan did talk to Tetsuya Naito about the match. Naito, who is in Japan and met with Okada, said New Japan discussed it with him and he was willing to do it.  But they chose Okada for the spot. As far as Shinsuke Nakamura goes, the only thing I know is he was interested in doing it.

I would really like to see a trio of Beef, Big Bill and Daddy Magic

Called Big Beef Daddy!

Beef is such a great babyface. I often wonder if they're trying to develop something with him before using him on AEWTV. He's great at fighting from underneath. It's pretty special when you can go out in front of an audience cold and have them behind you as quickly as they generally are for Beef. Not to step on the joke, but I'd actually very much love to see a round robin of matches: Big Bill vs. Beef, Beef vs. Daddy Magic and Daddy Magic vs. Big Bill. I love imagining what a Beef/Daddy Magic partnership might look like. That's a lot of charisma. Yeah, why not throw in Bill?! 'Big Beef Daddy', make it happen Coach!

Some wrestling fans,  I'll never understand. When people like Okada or Omega go to AEW it's all "AEW is raiding NJPW" and that's when NJPW is on a financial downswing. When WWE bought up Nakamura and AJ Styles that wasn't raiding NJPW?

I know it’s funny to think about now but Gallows & Anderson leaving at the same time Styles and Nakamura did was a big deal on the internet too at the time.

But WWE got away with it because NXT was firmly in that internet darling phase (and WWE wasn’t *terrible* at the time), and now it’s ten years later and they join another generation of fans that have been conditioned to think anything other than WWE is lesser than. These fans 100% wanted Ospreay and Okada and the like to join NXT and WWE instead.

When a company you don't like is doing it, it's a talent raid.  When it's a company you do like, it's just giving an opportunity.

PS I really need to see the word "opportunity" banned from wrestling.

So strange to me that they would kayfabe the Roddy/Marina relationship. The way Roddy plays off her is perfection. She holds her own too. A mini or side feud feels like it could be something special.
