He threw Tua under the bus for his (Tua's) post game comments

Quote

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's comments after Sunday's game were "misguided" and that his postgame news conference was "not the forum" to air his concerns.

Speaking in the minutes following Miami's 29-27 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, Tagovailoa was asked how players will refrain from feeling sorry for themselves moving forward. He responded that the solution starts with the team's player leadership before revealing that some teammates were late for players-only meetings.

McDaniel was asked about Tagovailoa's comments a few minutes later and said the quarterback was "sending a message," but the coach had a more detailed reaction Monday after actually hearing what the quarterback said.

"You guys caught me before I heard them [yesterday]," McDaniel said. "I think regardless of intent and what was on Tua's mind after a loss, as the franchise quarterback, that's not the forum to displace that. I think he knows that. Now, I do honestly believe there was no ill intention, but you're talking about, I think, a misguided representation of player-orchestrated film sessions.

"The bottom line is no one's going to be happy and [people] always are looking for reasons for failure to succeed. So you're trying to look for reasons that you can attribute to losses, and heavy is the crown of being a franchise quarterback."

McDaniel said Tagovailoa has "directly communicated" with his teammates since Sunday night and will "live and learn" from the experience.

Dolphins offensive linemen Aaron Brewer and Patrick Paul both declined to comment on what Tagovailoa said, adding that team matters should remain "in-house."

McDaniel noted that Tagovailoa's comments pertained only to players-only meetings. Though tardiness and attendance at team-mandated meetings was an issue in previous seasons, McDaniel said that has not been the case this year.

He added that he doesn't believe it will spiral into a larger issue; at 1-5, the Dolphins' focus needs to remain on their game Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

"I've got a lot of things to worry about and one of them is not those comments and where our team is lying after that," McDaniel said. "We've just had meetings about the [Chargers] game itself, the factual successes and failures that led to the ultimate result, and that's where people's focus needs to be.

"We are all very motivated to fix our problems and find a way to win."

For what it's worth, some wide receiver who was on the Dolphins practice squad claims that Tua was late to the only meeting they had while he was on the team.

The real issue is that it really seems like the team doesn't take Tua in particular serious as a leader.  It doesn't help that not only does he throw a crippling interception every game, but he also gets in front of people and says a bunch of shit that makes everyone roll their eyes.  McDaniel is probably done in that town, but Tua needs to be riding shotgun on the way out of town.

I just want to mention this because it is becoming a small thing

The Scorigami bot on Twitter is broken so don't rely it

(People say that the one on Bluesky works fine)

This came to a head this past weekend it kept saying every score had never happened before

The main issue is, they just paid him.  (There was no choice, it was do that or roll up the white flag on this season.) So, though things were supposed to be Mediocre to good this year, everything's gone wrong and we're 1-5.

So, the question becomes, do you stay the course and end up 4-13 with like the #6 pick and burn it down at the end of the season, or clean house now and see what shakes out.  The replacement rumor (Gruden) is as unappealing as anything, especially when Grier is supposedly safe.

Supposedly, Tua was all but instantly confronted about his comments by his teammates and was apologetic and promised to be a better leader. But it's clear Tua and McDaniel have all but lost the team. Mike is easy enough to remove... Tua on the other hand...

Someone who desperately needs a QB after this season and has the cap space for him would have to appear in order to get - at least the majority - of his salary off the books. I'm looking in the Saints' general direction when I say that.  Though if he ever learned to play in the cold, Pittsburgh would be interesting...

I don't see the Saints going after a QB if Rattler continues to play like he has so far this season.

68.5% completion percentage

1,217 passing yards

6 TDS

1 INT

Good way to start off your 2nd season.

Tua's contract AND his concussion history should keep all other teams from wanting him in a sane world.

Honestly, someone should have told him to stop talking when he got in front of the press and told them, "Josh Allen, he's better than me at everything."  I don't think any of us disagree, but you can't say that in public and have your team respect you.

The Steelers are drafting a QB in the first round, Tua would basically be Mitch Trubisky if he'd go there.

Is today your birthday?  Did you just blow out a candle?  Did you find an ancient lamp in the desert?  Did you flip a coin into a fountain?  Did you just see a shooting star?  Did you just get the big half of a wishbone?  I'm just asking why you think the Steelers are going to pick a 1st round quarterback?  That sounds like the wishfullest of thinking.

QB will be their greatest need in the offseason since Rogers is only signed for 1 year, it's a deeper draft QB wise compared to 2025 and they have 12 picks in the draft if they want to move up and take who they want. All signs and pretty much all mock drafts have them taking a QB.

I agree that this makes the most sense, but the Steelers are in the same position they've been in since Big Ben retired in where they're just a little too good to have anything but bad quarterback options.

that's not hot there's no yinzers here

That game had it all for a Rodgers hater like myself - Rodgers getting pissed at teammates for not catching inaccurate throws, Rodgers getting pissed at teammates for possibly running wrong routes, Rodgers getting pissed at teammates for tackling him during celebrations, Rodgers throwing horrible picks into double coverage and, oh yeah, a loss.  Ya hate to see it, lol.  And, oh yeah, that rarest of all birds, a true rarity - a national announcer uttering the phrase, "a poor decision by Rodgers" after one of his picks.  Glorious.

And three people took Pitt in my pick 'em league.  Even better.

Yeah that is the 9-8 team that I was expecting this year from the Steelers.  Thought maybe the defense recovered after being awful in first 2 weeks but nope.  Only difference is that at least we were averaging more than 10 to 17 points

Well, maybe Tomlin understands the trade more, now.

No he is probably more baffled

It was never why the Bengals wanted Flacco - it was why the Browns would get rid of him

I'm a man in my 40s.  That large man who just tackled Aaron Rodgers is 24.  If someone that size tackled me as a form of celebration, I'd be tempted to exercise my right to bear arms.  I've never related more to Aaron Rodgers than I did after watching that video.

Rodgers had every right to be mad, even if he was 24 himself. That nonsense was incredibly stupid and unsafe.

I 100% agree, but this is 100% something most 24-year-olds would do, but not a single 40 year old would do.  It reminds me of this joke.

That was hilarious and way too relatable.
