SirSmUgly Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 I could watch Koko Ware hit high-end offense all day. He's one of those '80s dudes who pop off the screen with their dynamic (for the time period) offense. 5
Cobra Commander Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 the Vault's title for the 8/23/86 WCW episode is alerting me to Baby Doll turning heel again waaaaay earlier than I was expecting, didn't think that Baby Doll was going heel before Magnum's wreck
odessasteps Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 It was when Dusty lost the belt back to Flair
Cobra Commander Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 I'm guessing Baby Doll with the Horsemen lasts longer than Dark Journey with the Horsemen but I don't think she's around much between turning heel and her early 88 return with Larry Z, right? looking at the Starrcade 86 results, a card I've never seen, and there's a Sam Houston vs Bill Dundee match which is a battle between people hated by the JCP powerbrokers
Shartnado Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 I said previously that the Outrunners' (former) theme would likely to be the last time I'd use a wrestling theme as music for my training montages, but there was no way I was going to pass this one up, once I knew it existed! https://youtube.com/shorts/KIe72L71gjs I think this proves once and for all that the artist's name "Lex Luger" is not a coincidence and he's absolutely familiar with wrestling. Anyway, these clips are both from after I turned 48, so they are very current. 4
SovietShooter Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 I've never used a squat machine like that one... Looks nice! 1

You can focus solely on the pushing the weight up/letting it go down as low as you dare (until the stoppers). Balance is not an issue and you won't waste any strength on that. I don't know how it correlates to free weights, so I'm not counting the "bar" as anything and I also use two pairs of resistance bands to add something to the upwards motion, but I don't count that as anything either. It is one of my favorite moves these days, though! 1
Cobra Commander Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 Today's Rock'n'Wrestling cartoon post on the Vault telling me that Freddie Blassie doing a live action segment on a cartoon was a bit better than I was expecting. The plot of "people are stealing stuff that Tito Santana has been sending to his Indian foster child" is certainly a plot for a 1986 cartoon. Makes me wonder if any pitch for an episode was rejected. 2
SirFozzie Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 Rewatching Orange Cassidy's All-Atlantic/International Title run: Holy shit, was that a top tier secondary title run. (especially the cheat-to-win Jarrett feud part) 3

(especially the cheat-to-win Jarrett feud part) That reign was awesome but I hated the ending. OC was elevated so much by the title run, and losing to Moxley came across like OC, as great as he was for a year, just couldn’t hang with a top guy in the end, like “nope, you’re a midcarder and that’s where you’re staying.” 2
Zimbra Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 One thing I'm noticing from watching early-90s WCW that I didn't remember from watching it contemporaneously is how over Ron Simmons was. He does a run-in to save Dustin from Greg Valentine and the crowd is just exploding every time he throws a punch. It makes the world title run feel much less out of nowhere than it did as a kid.
odessasteps Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 Unless in places like Atlanta and Baltimore, with large black fan bases for the company.
Cobra Commander Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 watching the Rotunda/Zenk match from Havoc 89 and wondering if the ROH Pure rules allow Mike Rotunda to grab the robe on an abdominal stretch after all the ring breaks are exhausted? (the rule probably means that the rope breaks are only ignored for the defending wrestler, right? so no legal cheating) also guess that you could do the Mike Rotunda abdominal stretch with cheating in a no-DQ match provided the ref isn't breaking for the ropes in a no-DQ match 2

I rewatched the match in full. OC had so many reasons for the loss. His list of injuries (remember how he couldn't use his finisher (the Orange Punch) to full effect because of the "hand injury", his back was hurting (I recall all of us joking that with all the kinesiology tape appearing on him from week to week, if he held the title much longer he'd look like the Yeti from WCW), he was busted WIDE open I mean, almost disgustingly so, and he still kicked out of multiple finishers (the death rider had been considered a death finisher, OC kicked out of that, and it took MULTIPLE death riders, the last one a HIGH-ANGLE Death Rider) to put him away.. and he got a standing ovation after the match 4
RazorbladeKiss87 Posted October 6, 2025 Posted October 6, 2025 (edited) On top of that, *puts on tin foil hat* what if Mox beats Darby? Who's left to purge the midcard? O.C. Edited October 6, 2025 by RazorbladeKiss87

SirFozzie Posted October 7, 2025 Posted October 7, 2025 Another example is one of the matches against Pac, he goes for the pockets a couple times, infuriating Pac but out wrestles him, and when Pac gets a big advantage, he goes up top, but OC rolls lazily out of the ring. PAC throws him back in, rinse and repeat a couple times, till Pac cuts him off, and is waiting for him outside the ring. OC gives PAC a sheepish smile, and rolls back to the center of the ring. PAC smiles, pleased at having out smarted Cassidy, and looks to the crowd, obviously pleased with himself, but that's given OC the chance to recover and all of a sudden kicks it into fifth gear, springing to his feet and crushing PAC with a tope and going on a huge run of offense. It's conserving energy and playing with the opponent's mind. 8

Also Jon Moxley didn't need to end it, he was already made. Give it to someone who needed that rub. 4
