While I don't know if anyone will be fired in the next couple of days - there are a few folks who might not get new contracts

Bruce Bochy and Brian Snitker are the biggest ones in that category (though all signs are pointing to Snitker retiring)

Also Ron Washington has meetings this week that basically amount to begging the Angels to let him return

just gonna go through whatever Cots knows about manager contract lengths, team by team

  • Bal: interim manager who has gone 60-57, would imagine he's back next year
  • Bos: Cora under contract until 2027 but the usual Boston angst over just getting into the playoffs
  • Nyy: Boone thru 2027 with the usual fan angst for not winning the WS every year
  • TB: Cash thru 2030
  • Tor: Schneider has a 2026 option that hasn't been acted on but it certainly will
  • Chw: Venable has a "multi-year contract" and the team didn't lose 121 again
  • Cle: Vogt until 2026, should get longer
  • Det: Hinch extended until some unknown date
  • KC: Quatraro's 2026 option was picked up and we'll see if he gets a 2027 deal before opening day 2026
  • Min: Baldelli's option was picked up for 2026
  • Ath: Kotsay until 2028
  • Hou: Espada until some unknown date, might get fired in a few days
  • Ana: Wash has a 2026 option and has been out due to medical issues since June, so he's likely gone
  • Sea: Wilson until whenever
  • Tex: Bochy's deal is up after this season, he's old and probably has nothing left to prove
  • Atl: would be shocked if Snitker doesn't retire
  • Mia: McCullough until the idiot ownership fires him
  • Nym: Carlos is probably fired on Monday if the Mets miss the playoffs, but he has a 2026 deal and a 2027 option
  • Phi: Thomson's deal is through 2026 but he probably gets some more years soon
  • Was: interim went 28-42, new GM might look around for a new manager
  • Chc: Counsell until 2028
  • Cin: Francona until 2027
  • Mil: Murphy until 2026
  • Pit: Don Kelly has went 58-64 with that roster, if he doesn't stick around, someone should probably hire him
  • StL: Marmol until they fire him mid-2026
  • Ari: Lovullo until 2026 but probably gonna get more years
  • Col: interim probably gets retained because the Rockies are owned by idiots
  • LA: Roberts has a deal through 2029, fans will be mad if they don't win the WS again
  • SD: Shildt through 2027
  • SF: Melvin has an option for 2026, team had a surge in-between two swoons in the second half

feels like most of the "big names at risk of being fired" names had solid enough years or didn't move the dial much... also a bunch of teams firing managers midseason really narrowed the pool for firings on Monday

so... Bob Melvin about to manage the Angels so he can manage yet another California team?

Funnily in the Ron Washington story - they note that the Angels might keep him just because he is under contract through next season and with the almost assuredly lockout coming after the season - Arte Moreno is so cheap, if he lets Washington stay he won't have to pay a manager until after the lockout ends

Michael A Taylor announced he will retire after today’s game

Astros GM Dana Brown said manager Joe Espada is under contract for next season. Brown said "we’re going to take a complete look at all of our operations" but credited Espada for doing "a good job" and "pressing a lot of the right buttons" with all the injuries Houston endured.

Talk about someone who wants the fuck out of dodge

Pete Alonso immediately announced he was opting out of his deal with the Mets and will become a FA

Bob Melvin has been fired

I am positive that at some point Buster Posey is gonna name himself manager

On the flip side - the Pirates gave Don Kelly an extension so he will be staying on as manager

Apparently a few of the players were lobbying for him to stay after he replaced Derek Shelton this season

or he'll hire a manager who he was teammates with in the past... Bengie Molina was a teammate when Buster was breaking in, he was a coach for a few minutes, and he has been a Spanish commentator for a decade.

Now hiring a former catcher from his era that was never with the Giants would seem bold for a few minutes. Yadier Molina managing the Giants would be superweird.

There are still several catchers who haven't gotten their stint as a manager yet

Yadier is a lock to be the next Cardinals manager. Just a matter of when they pull the trigger

Wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Washington pick up David Bell. He did a pretty serviceable job with Reds and squeezed two winning seasons out of that group. On the flip side, he's the only manager in Reds history to have a full 100-loss season so there is that.

Jeff Loria, Bud Selig, and David Samson. In that order.

Arizona's late charge was enough to give Torey Lovullo another year

However - they aren't giving him another extension so he will be a lame duck manager next season

BTW - part of the reason the Rangers and Bruce Bochy parted ways was the club citing "the plan to focus on youth amid “financial uncertainty,” and the sides decided to part ways due to the lack of a “clear picture” for the 2026 season."

If you don't believe there is gonna be another lockout - I don't know what to tell you

Oh I fully believe there will be a lockout and it’s going to be even more nasty than the last one. That one a few years ago nearly drove me away from baseball for good.

Will Venable, unsurprisingly, will remain the White Sox manager

However - they blew out almost the entire coaching staff (Essentially anyone who was a part of former manager Pedro Grifol’s coaching staff)

Basically everyone (including the AAA manager) did not have their contracts renewed

Grady Sizemore will be "reassigned" if he decides he wants to stay with the club
