ONE PERSON WHO WON'T BE SEEING CLEARLY...

david-fry-guardians-bunt.jpg?ve=1&tl=1

That's David Fry eating a 99mph foul tip from Tarik Skubal.   Although the video is horrifying, Fry appears to have avoided severe injury and was held in a hospital overnight for observation.  Updates will be given by Cleveland later today.

This, kids, is why you don't hold the bat parallel to the ground when bunting.

Im hoping we get a 1984 rematch, just so Beau and I can do some good natured trash talking.

Raleigh got to 60 tonight, and it looks like the Ms are going to clinch the West. Houston would be getting "pathetic collapse" talk if Detroit hadn't lapped them.

But Judge also got over 50 tonight and I can't see voter fatigue or defense being enough to overcome the OPS gap.

The Astros Luis Garcia is hurt... again

He will have elbow surgery and miss the entire 2026 season

(It really comes across as rushed back from TJ way too soon and destroyed his arm again in the process)

So to recap last night

  • Cal Raleigh became the 7th player to have a 60 HR season (this is the 10th time it occurred as McGwire and Sosa each did it multiple times)
  • In winning that game - Seattle clinched the AL West
  • Aaron Judge is up to 51 HRs thus becoming the 4th player to have 4 50 HR seasons (Ruth, McGwire, Sosa)
  • In winning their game - the Yanks have caught the Blue Jays. Toronto remains in first in the AL East due to tiebreaker
  • The Guardians beat the Tigers again and officially took over first in the AL Central.
  • The Phillies hit a team record 8 HRs in a game and with the win clinched a 1st round bye
  • Paul Skenes the season with a 1.97 ERA. He is the youngest pitcher with a sub 2.00 ERA since Dwight Gooden in 1985
  • The Reds and Mets both lost
  • Its the end of the season so that means the Dodgers bullpen is a forest fire. They had to use both Roki Sasaki and Clayton Kershaw out of the pen last night to eek out an extra innings win

The Guards magic number is 3, so finishing the sweep tonight would go all but assure them of getting in.

...And all but ensure that the Tigs go home, because after Cleveland, they go to Boston. And Houston has Sacramento tonight and then goes to Los Angeles of Anaheim for their closing set.

Not sure how many folks here have read Kingdom Come, but I was reminded of Superman's "wrath that would cower Satan himself" while Cindy uncorked an absolute rager the other night about what a dumpster fire the Mets have been over the summer. The best part was when she said she wanted them to get eliminated and then literally "think about what they've done," like she was sending them to the off-season without their supper.  😄 I finally told her that if the Mets somehow come back, fight off the Reds for the WC slot and go all the way to win the World Series, she forfeits the right to celebrate, which she heartily signed off on.

She also agreed with me that it could be way worse - she could be a Tigers fan. Yeesh.

Miami has officially been eliminated.  I'm very glad the team that got swept by the Rockies earlier this season figured out something and had an incredible second half just to even get in the position to be close.

With any luck, this will portend the start of something.  We'll see.

I saw something this morning that said if the Marlins can somehow finish the season tied for the final WC - they hold the tiebreaker in 16 of the potential 18 different scenarios of remaining teams

Basically - they get there if they sweep the Mets and the Reds and D-Backs win no more than 1 of their remaining games (the Reds finish with the Brewers, Arizona finishes with San Diego) - everyone finishes with 82 wins

Btw, Aaron Judge now has the AL record for IBB's at 36.

Notably, the major league record for intentional walks is almost 4 times that...

AJ Hinch has confirmed the obvious.

If the Tigers need to win Sunday to get into the playoffs - Tarik Skubal will pitch. If they are already in - he won't

Colorado is going to absolutely obliterate the modern record for worst run differential. I thought that one Tigers season was bad but this is probably the most putrid display ever. MLB needs relegation.

Rockies not having their worst ERA season ever in 2025... 1999 was worse

of course the league was hitting a lot better in 1999 than 2025

Do they still “acclimatize” the baseballs for Coors?

The AL East will be decided tomorrow

Jays get it with a win or a Yankees loss

Whatever team wins the East also will be the top seed in the AL Playoffs

The team that ends up in the WC will host the Red Sox starting on Tuesday

Cleveland is officially in with a plunk-off win (a HBP walk off win).

The Tigers also clinched thus meaning the Astros will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2016
