Dolfan in NYC Posted August 26 Posted August 26 We're BACK~ and we start out with rare good news from The Ohio State (??) ... though as I was literally posting this, it looks like Portnoy was not actually banned. Turns out it was "Fox's decision" to not have Portnoy on the pre-show desk. Which... cool. But it also really looks like Fox caved to tOSU to not have Dave there. Which, again, cool. TEXAS / OHIO STATE -- SATURDAY~!
Craig H Posted August 26 Posted August 26 ND again has their first game of the season on a Sunday, which means I will once again turn on NBC on Saturday, wonder where the ND game is, move on to doing something else and then on Monday I'll remember, oh yeah, the game was on Sunday, who won?
Pete Posted August 26 Posted August 26 Oregon are 29-point favorites against Montana State. Yes, the same Montana State that went 15-1 last year and were 3 points away from the natty. Awwww yeah, the good drugs.
Brian Fowler Posted August 26 Posted August 26 It sounds like Fox doesn't intend to have Portnoy in stadium for any Big Ten hosted games. Which might be because he's an insufferable asshole.
Shadow Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Gio Lopez (South Alabama transfer) beat out Max Johnson (who had his leg severely broken vs Minnesota last year) for the starting QB job at North Carolina. I don't know that either will matter if Belichick did not improve on defense. I hope for the best but having a primetime game as your opener is certainly a choice.

A shame for Max Johnson, who has played for one of the most interesting groups of head coaches ever. He started his college career at LSU under Ed Ogeron fresh off the national title. Transferred to TAMU to play for national title winner Jimbo Fischer. Transferred from there to UNC with national title winner Mack Brown. Brown was fired and Johnson is playing his last season under 6 time Super Bowl winner Bill Belichick.
Troubles Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Thank the Frank Broyles gods that my Hogs have Alabama A and M this weekend at home. Then again, we did lose to UL Monroe that one year.....and all those other times. Fuck.

I would watch a 10-part documentary about the post championship years of Ed Ogeron at LSU. I've heard enough stories to say it would be great. Let's just say that the championship coach at LSU is very well known around Baton Rouge. He won the Natty in January of 2020, was divorced by the end of the year, and eventually agreed to resign due to off-field distractions.
EVA Posted August 29 Posted August 29 It seems I may have been a year early when I picked South Florida as a dark horse for the G5 playoff bid last season. They’re looking real strong against Boise tonight. May be finally putting it all together. 1
hammerva Posted August 29 Posted August 29 (edited) Nebraska is playing Cincinnati in Kansas City? If you love red this is the game for you. Edited August 29 by hammerva
Brian Fowler Posted August 29 Posted August 29 (edited) Looks like UAB and Alabama State had the first barn burner of the year. Six lead changes, combined 94 points. Edited August 29 by Brian Fowler
EVA Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I feel like Auburn -1.5 at Baylor tonight has to be some of the easiest money in CFB this weekend. I feel like that line is highly influenced by the general perception of Auburn’s underperformance over the past (several) seasons, and this is far from a toss-up game to me. Auburn is way, way, way more talented than Baylor. I expect them to win it going away. If somehow Auburn manages to blow this game, then I would go ahead and take whatever odds on Hugh Freeze being fired this season. Underperforming here would mean a high likelihood that they would be 2-4 by midseason, with an L to Bama waiting for them at the end, leaving no margin of error in games against Mizzu, Arkansas, Kentucky, and dreaded Vanderbilt.
EVA Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I didn’t have time to do my usual predictions with full write-ups this year, but I figured I’d go ahead and put my picks in the major conferences out there for posterity and future embarrassment. Stuff to watch for! SEC Champ: Alabama Dark Horse (non-consensus team that could push for the conference title/playoffs): LSU Disappointment (Top 25 team most likely to finish unranked): South Carolina/Tennessee Spoiler (unranked team most likely to shake up the conference): Auburn Wildcard (team with the widest variance in realistic outcomes…could be a playoff contender or miss a bowl): Florida Most Likely to Have a New Coach Next Season: Kentucky Big 10 Champ: Penn State Dark Horse: Michigan Disappointment: Indiana Spoiler: Iowa Wildcard: Nebraska Most Likely to Have a New Coach Next Season: Wisconsin ACC Champ: Clemson Dark Horse: Georgia Tech Disappointment: SMU Spoiler: Louisville Wildcard: Miami Most Likely to Have a New Coach Next Season: Cal/Stanford Big 12 Champ: Utah Dark Horse: Iowa State Disappointment: Kansas State Spoiler: Kansas Wildcard: Texas Tech Most Likely to Have a New Coach Next Season: Oklahoma State
hammerva Posted August 30 Posted August 30 Well Haynes King of Georgia Tech might not throw picks he definitely has no issues fumbling as we are two series and two fumbles

If the Yellow Jackets stop giving Colorado the ball though, they should win by thirty.

If Jackson Arnold is an above average QB, Auburn has pretty much everything they need to be very good. If he lives up to the hype he had before last year*, they might be a dark horse Natty contender. *He got dealt a bad hand last year. They hired an OC who didn't fit his style at all, Oklahoma's o-line was terrible, and their top five wide receivers were all injured at points.
EVA Posted August 30 Posted August 30 Through one half, it seems that Jackson Arnold is simply no bueno as a passer.
EVA Posted August 30 Posted August 30 Tarleton State has got Army in OT with a chance to win on this possession!
hammerva Posted August 30 Posted August 30 (edited) We almost has two shockers as Kennesaw State barely lost to Wake Forest 10-9. I know Wake isnt expected to be good but man Also like to start the nominations for the best helmet in college football. here is Kent State Edited August 30 by hammerva 2
