It is that time of year for Fantasy Football! I am a few weeks later than usual making this thread, my apologies, real life just been kicking my butt.

If you are in the DVDVR Paid League, it auto-renewed as it always does with the same people. I haven't heard from Brent in awhile so I'm concerned he has disappeared, so if anyone here is interested in joining that wasn't in it last year let me know in case a spot opens up! Also if you were in it last year and don't want to be in it this year let me know ASAP so I can figure out if we have spots to fill. Payment for the paid league is due by the 31st, draft is September 2nd. Yahoo took away the option to have the "dues" listed so I'll just keep track in my head who hasn't paid yet, I'll start messaging people tomorrow.

Course if you aren't in the paid league we can still use this thread for general fantasy football chatter.

I heard from Brent, he's alive and well! Also, this year some of the cool new features on Yahoo are behind a paywall, like having a seven team playoff to match up with real life NFL. I'm not opposed to some of the things they've added (playing two opponents a week, the seven team playoff, etc.) but without a forum within the Yahoo Fantasy anymore I can't really gauge interest and only like half the league are active in this forum at this point. So I just keep things the same.

If there ends up being an opening I'd be down for joining.

I think we got the whole band back together. Which is kinda surprising as I think the first year of the league was 2009 and about half of the players are the same, we don't see too much turnover. A couple people disappeared over the years and I think we've kicked out Chris at least once but that's about it 🙂

Hey I'm a changed man - I've been kicking butt in the Emeritus Baseball League!

I love getting terrible draft scores from Yahoo year after year. It's a comforting sign going into the season.

I finished the draft really disappointed with my team and got an A+ from them. I don't see it.

Yeah - Yahoo's AI doesn't account for a league's settings

So like I got massive bonus points for selecting T.J. Hockenson way later than his rank

But I really shouldn't since our league doesn't have a dedicated TE slot

It's all based on ADP with Yahoo Grades I took the Commanders' Bill in another league where he goes in ESPN drafts & it said it was my worst pick because I took him 3 rounds early. I think Courtland Sutton is the pick it was bitching to me about in the DVDVR League.

Starting to have major regrets about putting my wagons on Ashton Jeanty.   So far he has been nothing but a guy you can only get your points on 1 - 3 yard TD.

Something we probably should revisit is points for kick returns

(Says the man not getting credit for Deebo Samuel kickoff returns)

Not an intentional exclusion, remind me next August!

Going into last night, all I needed was for Drake London to not have a blow-away amazing game. Luckily, he stepped out of bounds before he touched the pylon, or I would've blown a 34-point lead.

Finally got win 1. Look out!

The playoff situation is wild for the final week in the DVDVR league. Not sure how it'll play out, but it looks like bye weeks are going to be an issue for some people.

Oh you mean how like I currently have 3 QBs and I can't start any of them?

You were definitely top of mind, yeah.

Fortunately I just saw that I have already clinched a playoff berth so its not the end of the world

Yea I did the fantasy football math in my head yesterday to make sure I wasn't eliminated but its looking bleak. Just need like five specific things to happen and I'm in!

I think I was eliminated from the playoffs anyway, but it still hurt to lose by .08 points this week.

The one league I play in - one twelve team division - came down to five 6-7 and a 7-6 all playing each other for three spots. One dickhead, whose team hasn't been above 11th all year snuck into 5th on Head to Head tiebreakers.

Hence all the Submarine captain GIFs I've been flooding the group chat with.

Not that anyone has told me yet in the Official DVDVR Paid League Established In 2009 (god we are old), although I haven't messaged people yet reminding them to send in their dues since its still a month away. That's sometimes when I find out if someone is skipping this year, I'll let you know if anyone drops out.

Circling back to this, so by default it does have TDs as getting FF points but not return yards. I've always been a bit iffy on return yards as I think that could dramatically change how people play and the stuff people would have to study/think about and our league is pretty casual. I don't think Adam is going to dive into looking up special teams stats, I'm happy if he just remembers to switch out players on a bye. Since its not a 'standard' scoring system I'd need at least a 50% interest to make that change. If we did yards I'd think .5 points per 10 yards as 1:10 I think would just make everyone start playing dual returners/WRs and it would be... difficult to manage. But I'm open to talking about it!

I'll ask players in the league but not in this forum these questions individually since Yahoo got rid of the forum (dumbest website), but open to people's thoughts on:

- Return yardage mentioned above, since more "stars" are turning kicks with the rule changes, I'd cap it at .5 points per 10 yards as anything more may be game breaking.

- This year, Yahoo has the option for fractional FG points for FGs made. So a 49 yard field goal would be 4.9 points instead of rounding down to 4. Would be more logical but also boost the points of kickers, maybe to high degree.

- Currently we have -2 points for fumbles lost, nothing for fumbles themselves. How would people feel about making it -1 for fumbles then -1 for fumbles lost, not increasing the overall points penalty but penalizing players that just fumble a lot even if they get lucky and their team falls on it. I realize I could make this change and no one would notice.

- Seven team playoff. My brother is very against this (he's in the league) but benefit would be the team with the best record would get a bye and one additional player would get the fun of playoffs. Downside is having 7 of 12 players make it is.... a lot. Even six is probably a lot.

- Playing two opponents each week. Yahoo added this a couple years ago. Pros: If you have the 2nd highest point total a given week and you happen to play the highest, at least you'd be 1-1. More players to root against. Cons: could be chaotic? And a bad week would mean going 0-2, and a couple bad weeks early on could lead to making a hole too big to get out of. I'd have read more about it but open to discussing it as in theory over the course of the season it may be more "fair" to get the best six teams. There is also a "play against the median" option, where you play one team head to head like always and and one "game" against the "league median" score to also help in that situation, which is probably more fair but sounds less engaging.

Also open to hearing thoughts on anything else! Not looking to make any roster changes as they seem ok but open to tweaking settings if a majority is interested (and I also at least am open to it, can't let y'all go crazy). Let me know what you think @Hail Sabin @RIPPA  @jaedmc  @Log @Kuetsar  I think I tagged all the people still active on this forum that are in the league.

Return yardage: I’ve used it my league that I run for 20 years & a point for every 25 to 30 yards seems to be the sweet spot.

Field GOALS that sounds fun & maybe if you miss a 40-44 yard field goal or shorter you lose a point to shave the boast a little.  Fumbles I like the -2 currently as it is.

I WOULD like to keep it a 6 make 6 in the losers bracket. The playing two opponents a week I would definitely have to think about.

I do think we should add a 3rd place prize of $25 starting this year would be my main suggestion.

Your right, the esoteric scores don't interest me much, just do whatever is best/ will increase scores. I'm torn on the three way dance concept, leaning against, but not a big deal
