She fought Toni but it was a slip-on-a-banana-peel loss. I like Bayne well enough as a wrestler, but she's kinda...boring. She does the same thing every match, shrugs off offence, hits a power move, does that same tired kicking dirt on her opponents thing. She does that taunt EVERY match. And it's kinda the only thing she does outside of hitting her moves. I'm not some huge Tay Mello fan, but the match she had a few weeks back against Bayne kinda showed what a massive divide there was between them, Bayne went through the motions, hitting her moves, and Melo was all over, playing to the crowd, showing fire and personality. Right now, for me, Bayne is kinda like Test: big, athletic, hits her moves cleanly and gives me no reason whatsoever to care. Someone like Statlander (even pinballing back and forth from face to heel to face to back to heel again?!) pulls off the power wrestler moves with a lot more watchabiitiy. 3

I don't disagree about Statlander. She's one of the best women in the world. I was just talking about who seems ready to face Toni Storm and Bayne is someone they could run back. I do feel like fans take notice when Bayne comes out. She has a presence. It's mostly all look/height but sometimes in wrestling that's enough for people to care.
SovietShooter Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 I think a long term program with Toni would actually go along way to getting Bayne to that next level; With that said, Toni doesn't need the belt to do that. I thought Mercedes was going over at All In, because "The Belt Collector" vs the "Forever Champion" made a lot of sense... maybe it still does, and Athena is going to dethrone Toni sooner rather than later. 1
The Natural Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 (edited) Announced today: AEW Full Gear 2025 on Saturday 22nd November 2025 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Edited August 4, 2025 by The Natural

If it wasn't going to be Mercedes I don't know who else is credible to beat her. And what do you do with Toni after? She's such a strong personality that I worry she overshadows the belt. I would have Athena win with some Billie help. Billie tells Athena she deserves a shot since she helped, Athena tells her she hasn't earned it. Toni wants revenge on Billie but gets beaten and sent packing for a little break. Billie gets an ROH shot and wins, says she deserves an AEW Women's title shot, gets it and loses to set up a longterm story. 5 hours ago, SovietShooter said: I think a long term program with Toni would actually go along way to getting Bayne to that next level; With that said, Toni doesn't need the belt to do that. I thought Mercedes was going over at All In, because "The Belt Collector" vs the "Forever Champion" made a lot of sense... maybe it still does, and Athena is going to dethrone Toni sooner rather than later. I'm having a bit of difficulty seeing an Athena title switch, but I like the idea. It would go a long way in helping establish Athena as a main event player. Athena's consistency is an issue for me, but when she's on she feels like a star. Less important to all this, but I like the credibility it gives to her ROH title run. An Athena AEW World Title run could bring us nicely back to Mercedes. And maybe on her quest for the title, Mercedes could hand Toni a loss. Yeah, I like an Athena win here. As for 'Toni Overshadowing', I like Toni being big enough without the title to offer an important non-title Women's feud. The potential of her overshadowing the title provides a worthwhile challenge for the belt holder. All that said, I could see the next play for Toni being the Tag tournament. Perhaps reunited with Rosa - tho, I'd much prefer the Windsor team. Megan Bayne still feels fairly strong. The booking is intent on protection, and she's mostly impressive where needed. Running back the Toni feud non-title I like less. I don't want to see Toni losing too much. Better to hold off that loss til Bayne is ready for the title. She still has a ways to go for her to be sustainable as a top star. The current act could use some tinkering. I like Penelope Ford as a roleplayer, but she has never felt like the right fit with Bayne. Bayne needs a proper mouthpiece - I'd gladly accept Don. Or how about Purrazzo? The current duo has very little chemistry. Why are they even together? Really anything would be better than nothing? A bigger divisional question - How do we get back to Willow-Mercedes, and Nightingale getting the big win? Edited August 4, 2025 by HarryArchieGus 1

The difference is that there was a hundred guys like Test in the WWE. There's no one like Bayne in the AEW women's division. Only Statlander comes close. 4
Elsalvajeloco Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 Test was in WWE for a hot minute and got multiple chances just like a Bull Buchanan, who was crazy athletic even going back to Smoky Mountain. Ran through a whole bunch of ideas along with a bunch of teams and stables. Still didn't develop anything past their initial great look + great athleticism. I am not saying people should get a solid decade like those two or a Mark Henry before you throw the towel in, but a handful of months is probably not indicative of what you can truly do. The true test is going to be 2-3 years down the road when you get more time with some of the best of the best. Now you have no excuse as opposed to what you could say for the talent working in the embryonic stages of the AEW women's division. 1

ExcellenceofAirPollution Posted August 5, 2025 Posted August 5, 2025 Bayne has presence/star power and you can tell by how the crowd reacts when her music/video hits. People stand up and there's like an "oh shit" rumble through the crowd (helps that she has good music that fits her look/presentation). She's pretty good in the ring too! At least as good as the "monster" of the division needs to be. I'd never even seen or heard of her before AEW, was expecting a stiff, and she's been a more than pleasant surprise! I'd totally buy her as the one to take the title off of Toni. IMO when I look at who WWE would want to poach she'd be near the top of the list On Forbidden Door.....as others have said NJPW being down since the pandemic and losing so much top talent takes the shine off the event......all that said it's still a PPV draw and I believe the O2 is over a million gate with like 13k tickets sold.........and people think they should stop doing the event? Glad y'all ain't running my banana stand Personally.....and I expect everyone to shit on this but hear me out.....I want Hangman v. EVIL NO DQ for the AEW title. But it's only a vehicle to show that after months of dealing with the Death Riders Hangman is prepared for the HoT bullshit and he singlehandedly destroys the entire group. Buckshots left and right, Togo lynched, Fale set on fire.......and EVIL taps out to an armbar or something 4
Marcel Posted August 5, 2025 Posted August 5, 2025 Dustin Rhodes needs double knee replacement, gives update on wrestling future - F4W/WON Double knee replacement at 56.....ouch. Best wishes to Dustin. 1 1
EVA Posted August 5, 2025 Posted August 5, 2025 He intends to come back, but man…if he can’t, winning the belt at All In and then having THAT match with Kyle would be a hell of a way to go out. 8
Technico Support Posted August 5, 2025 Posted August 5, 2025 (edited) All this talk of our dearly departed Andrew Martin reminds me of what has to be one of my top absurd wrestling stories. Test was released by WWE, no way would he be coming back, he hit his peak and never got any better in the ring or character-wise. So he did ALL the steroids and did that Italian tour. Vince saw a pic of roided to the gills Test and immediately hired him right back. Did he do indies and learn his craft? Did he grind and get better? Nope, he just got fucking jacked as fuck and that was good enough. Edited August 5, 2025 by Technico Support 2 1
Elsalvajeloco Posted August 5, 2025 Posted August 5, 2025 To be fair, that's the tried and true way of getting work and/or pushed beyond your talent level. Also, there are a whole bunch of people post WCW going down who likely never wanted to work or had any real desire to work the independents. Most of the people who got discarded in the mid to late 2000s into the early 2010s left WWE, maybe had a short run in Japan or in TNA, and then were largely never heard of again. It's kinda sad cause they went from being on TV to basically out of the business altogether. 2

I just finally watched the match and in retrospect it has a lot of elements that made it feel like it might be his last match. And if so, putting over a young superstar in a bloody street fight is definitely how Dustin would want to go out. Kudos also to Kyle Fletcher, that iron claw with the tacked glove was sick and you could see like a dozen small holes bleeding in his scalp after. 1
RazorbladeKiss87 Posted August 5, 2025 Posted August 5, 2025 If you're on Instagram, Willow did a q&a in her stories that was delightful. I must know now how Bayley guys used to feel.
