The Green Meanie Posted July 24 Posted July 24 His stories were legendary: that he partied with John Belushi (after he died), Elvis was his biggest fan, that Andre died shortly after WM III, that he was asked to join Metallica, etc.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AukVofRrSP8 1
mystman Posted July 24 Posted July 24 I feel bad for the people who feel bad he's gone. I feel worse for the people who have to feel so conflicted about feeling bad. He hurt a lot of people by saying that racist shit, a lot of people who loved him. I wish he would've at least made an honest attempt to make amends. Or at least would've been more honest about the whole thing in general. But now he can't, and that sucks. 10
FourPostMassacre Posted July 24 Posted July 24 (edited) Well I knew the Hulkster was not very popular around these parts but I did not expect some of the bottom of the barrel responses I have read so far. Rip Hulkster Edited July 24 by FourPostMassacre 2 2 1
COLETTI Posted July 24 Posted July 24 (edited) Hulk Hogan's life and career are a testament to the idea that humility and honesty, while not always the easiest virtues to live by, ultimately pay off in the end as people will remember you fondly - and that's as close to true immortality as we can hope to achieve. RIPPA Posted July 24 Posted July 24 There is something entertaining about Hogan screwing over Eric Bischoff one last time since I doubt many are gonna be interested in that Freestyle promotion anymore 5 4 8

Cobra Commander Posted July 24 Posted July 24 for all the "if not Hogan, then who?" talk that pops up from time to time... nobody ever stepped up to claim that they were considered for Thunderlips in Rocky 3, right? I don't think Dusty Rhodes as Thunderlips would have worked as well on film and some of the success of Hogan in the WWF started with Rocky 3, as ridiculous as that might seem that a big wrestling star was made off of a cameo in a big movie.. now, Hogan's role in ratting out Jesse on the union was probably much more replaceable, you know some other wrestler would have done the same thing because collective action is not a big wrestling industry thing... although Hogan was a SAG member (right?) during all that, so...

Casey Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Suburban Commando is a pretty great so-bad-it’s-good movie. That’s all I’ve got. 4

Swift Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Not gonna lose any sleep or anything what with his personal life stuff, but it's still a little shocking to me in that whole "big part of my childhood" way. Though admittedly as others have said here, he was never actually the guy I cheered for all that much. Ultimate Warrior, Macho Man and later Bret Hart were my guys. With everyone claiming they never cheered for him though, that does make me wonder... were any of you here actually little Hulkamaniacs where he was your number 1 guy? 1

Rip Hulkster No, a true bottom of the barrel comment is saying you hate black folks using the hard -er slur or hoping that your family isn't reincarnated as black folks after your son paralyzes a dude in a car crash. Rest in Piss, Hulkster. 17 9
supremebve Posted July 24 Posted July 24 54 minutes ago, RIPPA said: Weirdly - Hogan was one of the first people that getting into tape trading changed my opinion on wrestling wise I remember being stunned when finally seeing footage of stuff in Japan and the pre-Hulkamania work Not commenting on the quality but just how different things were when not filtered through Vince's 80s lens I also think he's the person who's work aged better when the shift away from the focus on workrate. If you want to judge wrestling on whether or not he's working hard, bumping all over the place, and/or doing ~movez, he's terrible. If you judge his work on whether or not he has the crowd in the palm of his hand, he's one of the best wrestlers of all time. I don't care how corny and formulaic most of his work was, the crowd 100% bought into his shit for the better part of a decade. 4

I was until I was 5 when he took the sabbatical after Wrestlemania 8. I became more of a Bret and Macho Man fan after that. I remember being excited when he came back in 1993 then Yoko destroyed him and that's when I started to lose interest. Him joining WCW was cool until he ran through Ric Flair and Vader then it was the same old same old. I was 8 and upset when he formed the NWO but had just discovered Rey Mysterio plus Shawn and Bret were killing it in WWF so he became my least favorite wrestler as I entered my "workrate rules all" era. Seeing the Mania match against the Rock live changed my mind about him again and now that I'm in my late 30's, I'll always defend his in ring work but everything else, especially the last 10 years or so...well I'm no longer upset that I was too hungover to meet him at a book signing in 2009 in a Toronto Chapters store. He was an amazing pro wrestler and a shit everything else. Edited July 27 by GodzillaPerez 3
supremebve Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Do you think he's going to try to steal Miss Elizabeth from The Macho Man again in the afterlife? 5
SirFozzie Posted July 24 Posted July 24 I mourn.. I mourn for him in that it was never too late to try to make amends for some of the things he said and did. I mourn for the young me, who spent certain sundays standing at the cable box, mashing the "a/b" button like I was playing Track and Field to "watch" a scrambled TV screen, hearing him "somehow" defeat the latest threat to the USA. I don't mourn what he had become. 5

Well if you believe in things like this, let's just say that Hogan and Savage might be in different locker rooms in the sky and unlike wrestling they isn't going to be much communication between those two lockers 2 1

I can honestly say that I was a Randy Savage kid and then a Bret Hart kid when it came to that era of WWF. He was my guy, however, in his 2002 WWE return. I ate that up along with seemingly everyone else. 1
