The Natural Posted July 22 Posted July 22 (edited) Breaking news. Ozzy Osbourne has passed away, 76. Ozzy only performed with Black Sabbath at their final gig a fortnight ago. This sucks. RIP to a legend. Ozzy gets his own topic. Edited July 22 by The Natural 11
Brandon Bones Posted July 22 Posted July 22 He got that last show. He looked elated sitting on his evil throne. Ozzy rules. I’m going to find a sharpie to write O-Z-Z-Y on my knuckles. 9

Casey Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Probably not a popular opinion but I fucking LOVE the "Down to Earth" album so I'm blasting that right now. Ozzfest introduced me to so many bands when I was a teenager that I still love to this day. Black Sabbath are pioneers in metal and a lot of bands wouldn't be around without them. Ozzy was so wildly influential that it's kind of insane if you stop and think about it honestly. What a goddamn legend. Rest in power, madman. 1
Curt McGirt Posted July 22 Posted July 22 This was just posted on Facebook and was the third or so post I saw about it. "Celina 52 Truck Stop is saddened to announce the passing of our longtime Hot Dog Manager, Ozzy Osbourne. Ozzy would change out the hot dog water every few months and nobody else managed to do it quite like he did. After ending his shift last night as usual, he informed a coworker that he "was going home." He will be dearly missed." I highly doubt that's true, but either way, it's hilarious. And it's exactly the way he would have wanted it. Other things coming later. RIP 3
Curt McGirt Posted July 22 Posted July 22 This is a review of Paranoid from Chuck Eddy's Stairway to Hell: The 500 Best Heavy Metal Albums in the Universe. (It made #27, the highest Sabbath record. He's a fucking weirdo, as you can see in the review... but I love the review. Spoiler The dirges we all sing in the dark the day the music dies in "American Pie" probably come from this bold stroke of personal and public nuclear and narcotic Armageddon, a dense dissertation with howling hooks and a beat as sure and rage as searing as "Living for the City" or What's Going On. The long loops of reverb and repetition have less to do with rock 'n' roll than with some immolating dance-in-ruins mood that probably dates from before the Enlightenment, and where heaviness-qua-heaviness is concerned, there's no competition anywhere. Ozzy Osbourne's some kind of mythical bird, this ungodly gargoyle, this saint. In the first cut, with silencing concentration, his voice switches back and forth between giant grunge-punctuation, relating this nightmare of politicians planning apocalypse, plotting destruction; in the title track, trapped in the world's most claustrophobic speeding boxcar, he tries and tries to let happiness in, but can't find a window. The rhythms compress circular zero-chops wah-wah wank over steady tomroll marches, with secondary beat-apparatus from powerchord pulverizations constructed into pseudosymphonic forceswing head-bang progressions; you can locate the embryo of not only just Metallica and Voivod, but electric Miles, solo Eno, Pere Ubu, Joy Division. I'll never know what "Fairies Wear Boots" means, but only "Rat Salad" sinks into overconfident mastery of instruments, and only "Iron Man" into kitsch, and even then only for a few seconds, after which it's become an allegory of technology striking back or, more likely, God striking back at a race that gives technology free reign. Extremely religious, extremely moral, Paranoid ranks with pop's most persuasive politics ever: The rumble articulates what no rhetoric could. 1
twiztor Posted July 22 Posted July 22 well, guess i'll be blasting Sabbath and Ozzy solo stuff for the rest of the week. I think it'll be fitting to start with the Randy Rhoads tribute. 3

I don't log on to FB much, but every time i do, i get a chuckle out of something they post. 1
Phantom Lord Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I'm in shock. Like, I knew it would happen at some point but I didn't figure it would be so soon after the farewell concert. He sounded so good during the final songs. This one does hurt. All I can say is listen to some Ozzy other than Crazy Train. I have Ozzy's Boneyard on Sirius XM right now. I just can't put into words what his music has done for me in life. 3
COLETTI Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I wouldn't be the same without loud, aggressive, heavy music and that wouldn't be the same without Ozzy 3
sabremike Posted July 22 Posted July 22 IMO I still think the craziest thing Ozzy was ever involved in was that insane lawsuit over Suicide Solution. It was being portrayed as a call from Satan to kill yourself when it was explicitly about the dangers of drugs and could've been used as the anthem of the DARE campaign. 5
odessasteps Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Goin' home late last night Suddenly, I got a fright Yeah, I looked through a window and surprised what I saw Fairy with boots are dancin' with a dwarf, alright, now 1
zendragon Posted July 22 Posted July 22 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9yYJ6ZAYns "Now I'm flying cross the great divide" I remember listening to this a lot when my grandfather passed 1

Black Sabbath 'Paranoid' was probably my favorite of the 'Classic Albums' series I saw. Ozzy captivated me as a child with the many rumours surrounding him and, of course, his ridiculous album covers. The discovery of Black Sabbath as a teenager was monumental. I devoured those first 6 volumes and have never ceased being in love. RIP Ozzman. 1
Nice Guy Eddie Posted July 22 Posted July 22 To keep it wrestling related, here's Ozzy performing "I Don't Wanna Stop" on Smackdown. The song was also Brent Albright's theme in ROH. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7NMCk-VNnAs&pp=ygUXaSBkb24ndCB3YW5uYSBzdG9wIG96enk%3D 3

There are a couple of lawsuits that could have really affected free speech in this country, involving music. Those are that one, the Judas Priest suicide suit, and the obscenity suits in Florida over 2 Live Crew and Uncle Luke. If those had gone bad, we might have been in a world of shit a little earlier than right now. So, thank those musicians and thank those fucking lawyers for defending music and defending the right to say and play what you want to play. 3
DreamBroken Posted July 22 Posted July 22 RIP One of the greatest of all time. This one hurts for sure. So soon after the epic farewell concert. I heard they would make that in to a concert film next year, will definitely see that in theatre if so. I saw an Ozzy tribute band last year and it reminded me how much I loved so many of his solo songs. My youtube end of year stats had Ozzy as my #2 most listened to artist, this year will now probably be #1 as I'll be listening to all things Ozzy now. 3
Casey Posted July 22 Posted July 22 If we're talking wrestling, the Road Warriors using Iron Man as their music is probably the best. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b56iK4WNGr4 5
Nice Guy Eddie Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I saw Ozzy in 1996 on the Retirement Sucks tour with Filter and Prong as the openers. Think about that, we've been talking about Ozzy retiring for almost 30 years. 1
Brian Fowler Posted July 22 Posted July 22 If one singular band or artist could be said as the one that made me first truly fall in love with music as a teenager, it was Black Sabbath in the mid-90's, ironically just before the original lineup reunited. I'm blessed that I saw Ozzy front Sabbath twice and as a solo act once. 1
