Lopez is the same problem, playing someone out of position.  Candelario is a flyer as really, how bad do you have to be playing for Cincinnati to cut you?

I don't know if this is going to be the best home run derby ever but it will definitely be the tallest and biggest.   Not sure what the MLB version of a Hoss fight is but we are definitely getting it.

Road winning streak ended last night for the Fish.

Also...

All hail, King Booker, indeed.

We have hit the stage where all the All Star pitchers are being replaced (namely because they are pitching this weekend so wouldn't be able to pitch in the ASG)

The note worthy one is that the Brewers Jacob Misiorowski has been named to the NL team

Misiorowski has played in 5 career games, throwing a grand total of 25.2 innings

It is the fewest games ever played by someone named to an All Star team beating the record set by... Paul Skenes last year

The Pirates lost today meaning that their all time franchise record dropped to .500 (10877-10877)

The last time their all time record wasn’t above .500 was 1903

Aaron Judge is the quickest player to hit 350 HR (in terms of number of games)

He hit it in his 1088th game. Mark McGwire had previously had the record at 1280

The next active player who will reach 350 will be Bryce Harper who has played in 1720 games so far

I'm honestly surprised they weren't well under .500 already.

That does make we want to see what the others are. Other than the Yankees and Cardinals  and probably Oddgers all being well over .500, I don’t know I’d solidly bet on any of the others. Maybe Minnesota being under thanks to all the bad Senators teams.

The Twins are approximately 700 games under .500

The Yankees are over 2600 games over .500. The Dodgers are closing in on being 1400 over .500 (they enter today 1382 games over)

I haven't found a list that is updated daily so I just look at BR's franchise pages (maybe they have the full list behind their paywall)

Specific to the Pirates - they have a 3 year run every 20 years where they make the playoffs consistently and bank about 15-20 wins

That staved things off for awhile

The Cubs are higher than expected, given their longstanding gimmick.

baltimore being so low is presumably due to decades of the St Louis Browns.

As per usual - the draft is littered with the kids of players that will make your bones ache

However - the Yanks drafted one who doesn't as they took one of Jeff Kent's kids and I was like "Jesus is the kid 32?"

Terry Francona got his 2000 career managerial win

13th person to reach that mark (2nd active - Bruce Bochy is the other)

The Cleveland Browns are over .500 all-time.  Being great for a long time before any of us were born gives a great head start.

Per the Athletic - the sale of the Rays is happening

Quote

A report from Evan Drellich and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic says that a sale has been agreed to in principle which would see the club be sold from current owner Stuart Sternberg to a group led by Patrick Zalupski. The deal is worth about $1.7 billion and expected to be completed by as soon as September. The report adds that Zalupski plans to keep the club in the Tampa area, with a preference for Tampa proper over St. Petersburg.
