Per a tweet from Spotrac:

"Former 1B Chris Davis secures a $9.16M payment today stemming from two deferral agreements throughout his 7 year, $161M 2016 contract with the #Orioles.

He's set to cash another $31.5M through 2037"

Speaking of the Orioles - I am enjoying that for some reason I am seeing Os fans bitching that the $500K they also pay Bonilla today isn't being acknowledged

Bonilla Day will always be my favorite free money baseball deal (though it pales in comparison to the Silna Brothers of the ABA who received approx. $800 million in payments until the NBA could finally extract themselves from their agreement).

same! i love Bobby Bonilla Day, as it was the first time i learned about the absurdity of deferred contracts. I've spent the ensuing years trying to figure out how to get one of my own, but thus far it eludes me.

Cubs are up 11-1 in the ninth against the Cardinals so we have Jon Berti making his first appearance as a pitcher throwing knuckleballs.

Cubs also set a team record with eight home runs.

A couple of days ago the Astros crushed the Dodgers 18-1

It was LA's worst lost in Dodgers stadium

More importantly - Houston's Jason Alexander (no, not that one) came in and pitched the last three innings thus... we had someone earn a save in a game his team won by 17 runs

I thought that Rizzo could bullshit his way out of a couple more seasons and just give the managers all the blame.

A good GM and manager can't solve the perception of the Nationals being just a cheap organization

Legit stunned it happened

Like what the fuck changed in the two weeks that Davey through the entire team under the bus outside of the team still being shitty

Okay - apparently both Rizzo and Martinez had options for 2026 that had to be picked up by mid July

Obviously it was decided that there weren't getting picked up and they didnt want either of them lame ducking the rest of the season (especially Rizzo)

EDIT - ESPECIALLY when the team has the number one pick in the draft next week

This is probably the most telling statement

Quote

“The sun will come up tomorrow,” Rizzo said in a text message to The Washington Post’s Barry Svrluga. “That’s the job. I had a great run. Navigated that ownership group for almost 20 years.”

And then bookended the series with a 11-0 win with only 1 dong.

But hey, what are you going to do when the wind is blowing in.

This Cubs team is ridiculous, but they're still going to need a TOR pitcher if they want a shot at the league championship, let alone a WS. Can't be trying to make it through the postseason with one pitcher who may break at any second (Boyd), another who may or may not be really good (Taillon), another where you don't know what his health is going to be (Shota), and another that may very well be a AAAA pitcher some days and a middle rotation pitcher on others (Brown). But at least Polencia looks like the real deal.

Nats are going with Miguel Cairo as interim manager

He had been serving as the team's bench coach

They actually asked him yesterday to do it but he asked for a day to think about it (It appears that Cairo wanted to run it by Davey Martinez first before accepting)

Not quite sure how this has happened, but Miami has now won 11 straight on the road.

Yankees DFA DJ LeMahieu.  So that looks like Peraza is going to sit at 3B and move Jazz back to 2B.

I would say its a pretty safe bet that they are gonna be playing Jeimer Candelario at third post all star break (or Nicky Lopez if Candelario is completely washed)
