AxB Posted December 9, 2025 Posted December 9, 2025 The City of Seattle, before the groups were selected, decided that the World Cup game on June 26th would be the Pride Game, celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. And then, when groups were selected, it became clear that the teams playing in this game would be Egypt vs Iran. Two countries where being Gay is actually illegal. Naturally, Seattle has decided not to change their plans, and FIFA apparently can't do a thing about it.

Iran's Minister of Sport announced that Iran will not participate in the World Cup A piece to this was apparently last week, the US President said that Iran "wasn't needed" for the World Cup (or something along those lines. I can't find the original quote because the internet sucks). Apparently then FIFA met with the President in the last couple of days and he was all "Iran is more than welcome!"

But the article also goes into how they hated the USA '94 kits at first glance, but then grew to like them as they got associated with the team actually doing well.
