The City of Seattle, before the groups were selected, decided that the World Cup game on June 26th would be the Pride Game, celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. And then, when groups were selected, it became clear that the teams playing in this game would be Egypt vs Iran. Two countries where being Gay is actually illegal.

Naturally, Seattle has decided not to change their plans, and FIFA apparently can't do a thing about it.

Well this doesn't seem great...

Judging by how much I fucking paid to take the old man to go see Colombia/Portugal (the Man) at Hard Rock, I want to cancel too.

I'm pretty sure that's a parody/wind-up gimmick account.

This is neat: The Athletic is tracking the locations being used as base camps by each nation. Spain setting up shop in Chattanooga guarantees the players won't be distracted, if nothing else.

Call me cynical, but the Mexico story has revived my belief that Gianni would move the whole thing to the US if he had a plausible reason.

Unsurprisingly - Iran says their participation in the World Cup is "now in doubt"

From what I heard, if there is a “regime change”, the team may still play.

right now, the head of the Iranian FA can’t get a visa.

Also, there's reports that the Administration has not distributed the $200 million allocated to each city by the US Congress for security and other upgrades.

Can't wait to see how much they'll charge for water and Gatorade in the stadiums.

Well here we go...

Iran's Minister of Sport announced that Iran will not participate in the World Cup

A piece to this was apparently last week, the US President said that Iran "wasn't needed" for the World Cup (or something along those lines. I can't find the original quote because the internet sucks). Apparently then FIFA met with the President in the last couple of days and he was all "Iran is more than welcome!"
