I also think Gabe Kidd regrettably wins the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship from Yota Tsuji. The Best of the Super Juniors winner usually gets their IWGP Jr Heavyweight Championship match here but Kosei Fujita is waiting to challenge El Desperado until Desperado faces Jun Kasai later this month. RazorbladeKiss87 Posted June 3 Posted June 3 The poster/image I say for El Desperado/Kasai looked like it was advertising a death match. Is this true?
Salads Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Before his AEW appearance I would've said Gabe winning was a lock. I still expect NJPW will stick to a switch because they have plans for Tsuji, but it's awkward knowing that this will be an Osaka crowd and who knows how they'll react. Many were hoping for round two of their first match but that might fail spectacularly this time around. 2 hours ago, RazorbladeKiss87 said: The poster/image I say for El Desperado/Kasai looked like it was advertising a death match. Is this true? I'm not seeing confirmation but I assumed it was. If it isn't, I can't imagine them not leaning towards it. Expectations have been set! 1
Horangi Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Dominion had some really great stuff, and some outright terrible. Most of the wrestling was good, if not great, but it will be a show that is going to be remembered for some very spiteful booking choices. I think some of it was necessary and the unit shakeups are long overdue, but still incomplete and messy. Probably long thoughts in the spoiler box Spoiler Fale being X = Massive let down. No reaction from the crowd. Chase joining at the end will probably make me start hating House of Torture again, and not in the way intended. TMDK vs ELP/Shota was really good. I wonder if they are ever going to pull the trigger on the Shota turn everyone has anticipated...possibly when Young Blood finish whatever they're doing in Tamashii hell. Tanahashi vs Yuya was fine, pretty sure this is going to be run back so the fluke Tana win is fine (they are in the same G1 block) DOUKI returning, ending J4G and joining the House had the opposite effect of Fale. Heel scumbag DOUKI is great, nice to see Pipe-san back. Tag title match was great! Not a top 10 match of the year, but still lots of fun. Only 1 of these 4 being in the G1 (so far) is disappointing. Don't see Ishii making the cut (he'll lose a play off), I am sure Callum will qualify again and 50/50 on Taichi (gut feel is he loses to Callum). Taichi & Yuya joined Hontai officially backstage after the match. Finlay/EVIL was the drizzling shits. The House is now 10 guys, so my gut feel is with Hontai and HoT being so big now, we have our post-G1 story. This didn't feel like the end of War Dogs/House either. Stacking a big face group and a big heel stable makes sense with the current roster. The major heel group being the House is what I am just not so sure on. Domestically they sell the most merch, but half the members the crowd are ice cold on (only EVIL, Narita & SHO get consistent reactions, DOUKI probably will) and the matches for the most part are fine when confined to 1-2 matches, but can get very tedious after that. Also still no Jake Lee, makes me wonder if they're going to re-sign him when his contract is up post G1. Tsuji vs Gabe was very good, but not as good as February. I don't know if it was just the sound on the stream, but felt like ZERO reaction to Tsuji. Crowd very hot for Kidd, which was contrary to the Reddit/Twitter western sentiment that there would be some rejection from the Osaka crowd due to Kidd's involvement with AEW. Very happy for Kidd getting the win, after Tanahashi I am guessing his next program will be with someone from the House (Narita?). Main event was great, in my matches of the year and had no doubt it would be. Zack is next challenger again at the Tanahashi produce show on the 29th. So yeah, very mixed show and I think the really good stuff (Main, Tag Title match, Tsuji/Kidd) is going to get lost in the discourse due to some of the booking choices. 2 2
