🎼 All my friends know the low rider (yeah)... The low rider is a little higher (yeah)....

We are now 60 days away from All In Texas! You can sorta begin to see the clouds parting as to what's on tap there...  possibly the end of the Death Riders?  Possibly the biggest match in AEW women's history?   First and foremost though... we gotta get through Double or Nothing!

🎸 The low rider drives a little slower... Low rider is a real goer...

Last week though...  MJF seemed to actually impress his new friends?   Could it lead to more?

(There's no way this ends without Lashley saying "OK you're good enough"  and Maxxy telling him, "Nah, not interested" )

🎵 Low rider knows every street, yeah... Low rider is the one to meet, yeah....

This week!   It's BEACH BREAK!  (When it's still too cold to do the beach in like 80% of this country!)

STEEL CAGE MATCH FOR THE AEW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - Jon Moxley d. Samoa Joe

Mina Shirakawa!  Zach Gowen!  Parejas Increibles!  And lots more!

(Hmm... some of these lyrics make me think he's not *actually* singing about a car... 🤔)

Enjoy the week

Are we going to see that weird red spider again and/or will it be explained?

So that WASN'T something I thought I might have imagined/hallucinated?!

It's a tease for Thekla from Stardom, who left there and signed with AEW.

Interested in how AEW goes about Jon Moxley vs Samoa Joe in a Steel Cage match because AEW has made a Steel Cage match mean something again. A Steel Cage match should stop outside interference...but that's a Death Riders regular occurrence like nWo run ins in WCW. I think AEW is running it here to free Mox and Samoa Joe up for Anarchy in the Arena at Double or Nothing.

I love this Alexander/Takeshita team. They looked great beating the shit out of the Dark Order last week. I want gold tag straps around the waists of these two. Mox-Joe in the Cage feels destined to be schmozzy - especially if it's leading to Anarchy. That said, I bet it'll be a helluva deal. Curious how the 4 way plays out. I thought the AZM-Mina-Mercedes 3 way over the weekend had some moments, but it also had some of the shittiest looking spot set-ups I've ever seen. Hoping that isn't the case tonight. Shirakawa has so much charisma and athleticism, but she can be a bit sloppy from time to time - tho, I'm sure the language barrier is a challenge too. Despite it being a bit corny, I'm glad they gave Skye Blue a hype package for the return. A lot better than 'here's Anna Jay' after many months away. I can't imagine Ric-Zach Gowen won't be a ton of fun. Stoked!

I'm sure it's just me, but I feel like Josh Alexander needs new entrance gear.  That long sleeve rash guard makes him look smaller and, combined with the head gear, he looks like a dork.

so Gabe Kidd is helping because he hates AEW, I guess? I dunno, I still have a bad taste in my mouth over him during Speaking Out, so whatever.

Wouldn't it be wild if Mariah May returned at the end of the Toni/Mina match? It's not going to happen, but it would be funny.

The Death Riders are the drizzling shits. July can't arrive soon enough with AEW All In.

Don't want to see Gabe Kidd in AEW for the reason Casey gave.

I fucking loved this show. That opener was gas. An absolute barn burner. I'd love for Takeshita and Alexander to win something sometime, but I get why HangSpray won here.

This Hurt Business stuff has been fun. MJF is either getting murked next week or revealing some sort of master plan. No way he's in The Hurt Syndicate this time a week from now. Also, TK immediately selling out MJF popped me.

Ricochet/Gowen was fun. Exactly what it needed to be. Gowen is a natural babyface, and it's crazy how long ago it's been since he was getting murdered on Smackdown. SRS said on his post-show that Zach Gowen wouldn't be in the top 20 oldest wrestlers in WWE right now. Mark Briscoe/Ricochet will be a fun DON match.

I dug the shit out of the FTR/Garcia-McGuinness thing. Stokely adds so much to FTR's presentation. I love it. Nigel is gonna get his hands on Stoke and it's gonna be beautiful. Or maybe Tony Schiavone stops Stoke from interfering and we get a fun moment.

The women's stuff was there. Mina Shirakawa is... let's just say I'm happy she's in AEW. I think Athena or someone will cost Mercedes the match against Hayter. Mone doesn't need the Owen cup.

I thought it was telling that with all the high-level babyfaces making saves & appearances tonight, Adam Cole was nowhere to be found.

I loved this main event. It was stiff, intense, overbooked, and full of story beats. I LOVE the Gabe Kidd addition to the Death Riders. Okada punching Hobbs in the dick popped me. That's a match I would've never envisioned but now I needs it. I love how blatantly the Jacksons use their EVP jobs to give themselves the advantage. I still think they're homeschool wussbags pretending to be tough guys, but them joining up with the DR makes sense. I also like that AEW books their steel cage matches as regular matches but with a cage. You should be able to pin a dude in the cage. I hate "escape the cage" rules. Mox is the fucking man. Joe is the shit too. I love Wheeler Yuta being willing to die for our sins. Anarchy in the Arena is gonna fuck hard. AEW rules the motherfucking world!!!!

TK admitted he changed Mina's theme back to her old one for the postmatch because it was buried online.

Speaking of which, we (again) haven't heard FTR's evil theme for a second time since it's debut. I much prefer that version to their regular one.

It's hard to see Sad Tazz. When he took off his glasses I knew he was going to lose it.

Re: Main Event
Remember The Authority? Cause that's where this angle seems to be going. Once we saw Gabe Kidd (also hate him, agreeing with everyone else) I knew it was setting up to something, but I had figured to a Blood & Guts match, not Anarchy In The Area, but that's welcome also. Frustrating.

That'll probably also happen. AITA this month, Blood & Guts is in June usually.

I forgot to comment on last week's Collision, which I thought was an ideal weekly TV show for AEW. Bowens and Takeshita/Alexander took care of business quickly, which left room for Speedball/Dralistico to be the quiet show stealer, and Ricochet/Angelico landed somewhere in between. The main got some time and had some blood to stand out despite the non-finish, but it effectively set up a future angle like Willow/Stat. Perfect pacing.

Anyway, Beach Break was a fine bigger Clash style show, which is totally fine to run once in a while. Opening tag was fun with some good fake outs on Ospreay and Hangman falling apart. The women's 4-way was good with some extra chaos at the end. Good to see Mina back and I'm excited to see what Thekla can bring. Not sure what's going on with MJF and HS, but there is some intrigue there. Shelton lined up to superkick MJF if Lashley gave the thumbs down and quickly switching gears was a good touch. Main event wasn't that great, but the attitude style set up for AITA was good. Not super excited for Gabe Kidd, but if he's just there to eat damage instead of Okada, then whatever.

Random stuff about a great show.

Hangman signs a kid's t-shirt and I wonder if the kid was a plant to show Hanger's ascent into the light side.

That tag was awesome and I really enjoyed the slow burn from smiling and happy Hangman and Ospreay before the match, to almost hitting each other by accident BUT settling down to still win the match, to finally coming to blows.  Just an incredible match layout.

"You can't beat FTR!  You could barely beat hepatitis!"  JESUS

I'll say it again: why does Daniel Garcia talk like that?

That women's four way was incredible.

I thought that was a 70s Pan Am stewardess jumping Mercedes.

MJF/Hurt Syndicate was there.  They tipped their hand with the "we accept him" swerve way too hard, teasing "let's give MJF what he deserves" and similar verbiage in the leadup that you knew it was going the other way.  MJF is playing his part really well but at the same time, I don't understand his characterization.  One week he's the Devil, a soulless mastermind heel, and then the next week he can't see that he's clearly being set up.  I really enjoyed how he played that this week, but I don't get it in the grand scheme of things.  If he's supposed to be a brash, tough talking fool, then keep it that way.

Gowen and Ricochet was great.  I really like AEW just bringing in random dudes because fuck it why not.

The cage match was fine.  I'm glad it was kept short-ish.  No problem with the finish, as the faces actually did stop the Death Riders before Gabe Kidd interfered, which is a nice twist.

I don't mind the Bucks at all.  Speaking of characterization: their stooging is top notch.  See: Matt, panicking, frantically hitting the button to raise the cage as soon as the tables turned.  They are every chickenshit heel we've ever had, who acts like a badass when they're ahead, but then turns into Dr. Smith from Lost in Space (the original) when the odds aren't in their favor.   @just drew says, "I still think they're homeschool wussbags pretending to be tough guys."  YES!  THAT'S THE GIMMICK.  You're so close to understanding and, dare I say enjoying, The Young Bucks!  🤣

I'm glad it's Anarchy in the Arena because Blood and Guts needs to stay a free TV thing.

Anyone else getting the sense that McGuinness is gonna turn on Garcia and join with FTR? Seemed fishy the way the attack was focused more on Garcia.

I thought the show was a lot of fun overall. I enjoyed the women's match and the main event a fair bit. The Death Riders look like such badasses and Swerve just walking into the dragon's den without giving a fuck is why we love him.

What were the allegations against Gabe Kidd? Something to do with Mariah, right? I'd much rather have Mariah around than this guy at any rate (no idea if it was an either/or situation).

My prediction for next week, The Hurt Syndicate say wait a second we said you needed a thumbs up from everyone in the group and you didn't get a thumbs up from everyone yet. Cedric Alexander's music hits, walks out onto the stage and does a thumbs down. Then they beat the absolute dog shit out of MJF.

Which is leading is to... not totally sure. Hammerstone & Holiday showing up to redo their MLW group with MJF? Adam Cole accepting him back? MJF buying the services of two random monsters?

Not sure where the end destination is. But I'd be surprised if we didn't get something similar to what I predicted for the next step at least.

I think it'd be an interesting character trait for MJF if we were to find out through his actions that he has a blind spot for people he thinks are like him. Like, to him, MVP and his guys are all about business. Why wouldn't they get along? He sees them as a shortcut to an end. "Why compete in the Owen when I can BE Owen?" Meanwhile, the Syndicate guys have a code. A clear, violent ethos. Championships and prestige, and by proxy, money and fame, are earned by being the best at inflicting pain and imposing your will on other worthy competitors. It goes back to that Ernie Ladd quote; "the best heels don't cheat because they have to. They cheat because they like it." The Syndicate hurts people because they can. They like it. MJF the character is fundamentally incapable of understanding that, and I think that's what's going to lead to his being dealt with by the Hurt Syndicate.

It seemed to me that MJF is going to have his "lawyer" mess with the contract and he's gonna do a corporate takeover bit, which would be awful.
