Picking up a crumb from last month's thread:

Who was the first heel you rooted for, and what age group were you?

Personally, and i just referenced this the other day, when Hogan and Savage feuded leading into Mania 5, i sided with Savage. I would have been 6-7. I think that speaks more to my absolute adoration of Savage moreso than my taste in characters, but it's easily the first instance of me going "against the narrative". I loved the Ultimate Warrior and the Legion of Doom and was back to cheering Hogan against the evil traitor Sgt. Slaughter a couple years later. I also always liked the Repo Man and the Mountie for some reason, likely the comedy. But other than those isolated incidents, i was fully aboard the babyface train until the nWo came about and rocked my world.

I'll say it was Piper and I was probably 11.  I started watching in the run-up to Mania 1, but somewhere between that and maybe the run up to Mania 2, I got tired of Hogan's shtick and got into the heels.  I blame Eddie Ellner, maybe.  On the Crockett side, it was the Horsemen and Midnight Express.

This month sees NJPW Wrestling Dontaku, WWE Backlash, AEW Double or Nothing and biggest of all, an AEW co-produced tribute show to the late, great DEAN. Love and miss you, mate xxx.

Jimmy Snuka when I was 8, pretty much every kid around my age was also cheering for him over Bob Backlund. About a year later Don Muraco was the first heel I cheered for that did all the heel bs to piss off the fans and he was great at it!

Rick Rude.  I stuck with Randy Savage when the Mega Powers broke up, but I'm pretty sure Rude was the first guy I was introduced to as a heel, who I immediately loved without ever seeing him as a face.

Should I just wait to find out how Thekla is pronounced or just guess that it’s Fek-lah

It's a hard T.

Bad News Brown, pre-teens. As I've said before, he was Stone Cold about ten years ahead of his time...

I didn't watch wrestling with any regularity or intentionality until the NWO existed and half the damn dorm was watching Nitro and the MU* games I played on were creating dedicated wrestling chat channels to keep it from contaminating everything, so I'd have to say Chris Jericho when I was 20.

The Midnight Express, age 15.

I couldn’t think of any until you mentioned that and yeah, I was Team Andre against Hogan and I guess I was 14.

I thought Rick Rude was awesome as a wrestler but still dutifully hated his obnoxious ego and rule-breaking ways.

I thought Rick Rude was cool for his pre-match spiel

Demoliton, age 5. Absolutely floored by their look, with the facepaint and spikes everywhere.

Flair. I was probably 14 or 15 at the time. I always thought Flair was better than Hogan.

I can echo the sentiments of some of the answers in here, like Macho Man, Demolition, etc.

But the first heel I really rooted for at a live wrestling show was Nick Gage in CZW. Champ's Soccer Area/Tournament of Death 2 era CZW.  First time I saw Gage, crowd was booing him, but my friends and I just thought this dude was the absolute best in an unbelivably reckless.  He threw a ladder into the crowd at that show, riling everyone up, being an unhinged lunatic and we were the only three going nuts for him.

It pains me how far CZW has fallen, because it is the only promotion i was there at almost the beginning and a few years back, i went to Cage of Death, 20? i think remembering at the second Cage of Death and realizing i was following a promotion that long was awesome.

I remember loving Macho Man as well but I had a Million Dollar Man wrestle buddy so yeah.

I was 10-11 years old and I fucking loved Ministry Undertaker.

Yes, for the above mentioned reasons except I was 7 at the time. Plus, having arguably the greatest entrance theme helped. Demolition's theme was my gateway to rock music.

I was so mad at Jack Tunney as a kid for keeping Big Boss Man from getting his revenge on Rude for what Rude said about his mama.

I was just as mad as when Tunney announced there could only be two members of Demolition, thus phasing out Ax. I never forgave Brian Adams for being part of the downfall of Demolition, so I was happy to see Doink one up Crush at every turn.
