Brandon Bones Posted April 19 Posted April 19 You bastids is making me laff today. Kudos. Loved the Mox promo. Put Joe over strong by making his jumping the challenge as notsomuch being brave as being painted into a corner. Claudio needs a wellness check. Nick Wayne’s Mom needs my phone number. Liked the on-stage recap from Nigel. Made Wednesday seem even bigger by putting it so deservingly over. It may be shoveling sand against the tide to try considering this weeks newsfeed is going to be flooded. Fuck it. Put your money on the table. Toni Storm is a treasure. This act/character is so uniquely tailored with WWF wacky thread. I honestly believe she could surpass every other act in the company to become the face of it. She is so sharp and creative. There’s a reason folks around here campaign for her matches to be show carrying main events. Loved the outfit. Stat could use some character development to go along with how hard they put over her strength. Bring on the Hayter match. 1 1

That's a general comment, but it's consistently good and they don't get enough flowers. I never watched Josh Alexander in TNA/Impact (or anywhere else for that matter). I always thought he looked like a dork in the headgear when I saw pictures of him. Almost immediately they note that he had a Cauliflowered ear that had to be re-attached and he wears it to protect it. Good, informative commentary. I instantly went from thinking he was a dork with an amateur wrestling gimmick/Rick Steiner fetish to "oh fuck that's gnarly" and my respect for him immediately shot up. I don't know if he can talk or not, but being Canadian and with his look/gimmick he feels like a natural fit with Callis' group. I dunno I thought this was way better than any time I ever saw him in TNA.

I looked it up to see if I'd remembered it right, and it's been a slur for Nordic and Germanic people forever. Funny, I didn't find an answer as to the Russian question, so maybe I'm right, maybe wrong. Also, I was watching a WWI movie for a sec last night and they said "it might be Franz" in reference to the Germans, which I'd never heard before.
JLowe Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Dynamite was an all-timer show, other than the all-time shitshow that was the MJF-Hurt Syndicate. Sexist, borderline racist, Attitude Era garbage. MVP trying to defend it on Bluesky by saying “it’s a bad guy doing bad things” is weak. I was never overly impressed with the few times I caught Josh Alexander in TNA matches, but I was very impressed with his debut, and having him be a Callis family addition covers for the loss. Mercedes-Athena was fantastic, wouldn’t have minded a few more minutes as this was a bit of a sprint at times. Not flawless, but they covered everything well. Think this could be the next big rivalry. Hurt Syndicate-GoA was a short fun hoss fight. Toa needs to do an excursion, he’s on the verge of really being special. Ospreay-Takeshita was what modern wrestling is all about. Some hate it, I love it. The prolonged finishing stretch was impressive. I don’t think they have the money, but NJPW should try and sign Takeshita when his contract is up and make him their top guy. Powerhouse Opps is better than the team with Hook. Not sure why he was taken out, but this was great storytelling and a fun match. When the Bucks came out, I groaned but then Swerve pops up in the crowd and I almost screamed! And I honestly almost teared up when Joe locked in the clutch and Mox tapped. It felt very much like WCW ‘97 when the NWO finally had their first big loss. The celebration was a little corny but that’s ok. 7
JLowe Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Haven’t finished Collision but I thought Archer (who I generally don’t care for) was perfect as the monster heel base for high flyer babyface Kevin Knight. Knight is in an interesting situation because he has a lot of impressive stuff but is in a company with amazing high flyers and athletes. His top rope rana where he jumps from the mat is impressive, and he does have very good body control while in the air. The clothesline finisher isn’t great, and it looks more like a punch or a clobbering. Needs something different. on other topics: Gish is almost a lost Zeppelin album. Siamese Dream is more melodic and shoegazy. After that, I barely paid attention. Saw Pumpkins twice back in the day, both shows were great and both ended with Billy having a meltdown. The transition from Pretty Hate Machine to The Downward Spiral was basically the end of the old industrial music sound to the new one. Downward Spiral is so fucking raw, I gave it 5 stars when I reviewed it for the UT newspaper. Earlier this week, my wife literally said “Eddie Murphy tapping head.gif”, she had no idea that wasn’t him until I told her and showed her an article. 7 1

The Green Meanie Posted April 20 Posted April 20 Finally got around to watching Collision. Claudio looks like a FREAKING BOSS. That shot/stance on the stairs was just something. Is Hobbs in The Ops now? Joe spoke of him as such, if so, I'm totally okay with that. 1

Let’s see, the first time I think he felt like the crowd wasn’t as enthusiastic in chanting/clapping for an encore as he had hoped. So he berated the crowd for a few minutes and then the band came out and played a few songs anyway. The other time, at Lollapalooza, he and James were kinda chippy with each other all set and (once again) during the encore both just started sorta yelling and screaming into the mics through a wall of feedback and noise for a minute or so. It was pretty awesome. 1

I always liked when they played 'Disarm' at the MTV Awards when it was really popular, but turned it into a scream-y, feedback-y 2:30 mess then swung his guitar at the microphone and seemed to trip over the chord on the way offstage, rendering it a lot less cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAPPciGdvPY It was a funny middle finger to MTV (Whom likely pressured them to play it) but not as good as Nirvana wanting to play 'Rape Me' on the awards and being told not to and the supposed panic in the production room when they played the opening bars to it, before playing the agreed-upon 'Heartshaped Box' 1
