Zimbra Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Pop is officially resigning from coaching the Spurs, but will stay as the PBO. End of an era, man.

Someone waited a long time to cash this ticket, but I'd bet the odds were incredible if, in 2008, you'd have bet Erik Spoelstra would be the longest tenured HC in the NBA.
Contentious C Posted May 2 Posted May 2 And when Riley's gone, he'll probably be going with him because the Heat have a decent chance at some stage to end up with their own Ishbia. Actually, we should just call him "The Ishbiot", because that's what he is. Not sure Mitch Johnson is the guy to replace him for any length of time, either; may be the one instance here where loyalty isn't the best tactic.

This also means three of the five longest tenured coaches in the league going into this season are now gone (Malone was fourth and Jenkins fifth.) Spo is now followed by Steve Kerr and third place is Thibs in New York.
Contentious C Posted May 12 Posted May 12 (edited) Wizards and Jazz got hosed by the lottery. Dallas has a top 4 or better. Unfortunately, so does Philly. And the Spurs continue being the luckiest a-holes on the block. Holy crap. Dallas got Flagg. Edited May 12 by Contentious C
RIPPA Posted May 12 Author Posted May 12 And that should have been Miami’s pick Hoo boy - there are gonna be some spicy takes 1
Contentious C Posted May 12 Posted May 12 (edited) I'm guessing SA takes Bailey, since they could use another big more than another guard. Or they field some offers for both lottery picks if they can fall back 2 or 3 spots and get a vet along with someone they like. Edited May 12 by Contentious C
kenyabaxterZXW Posted May 12 Posted May 12 2025 NBA Draft Lottery 1. Mavericks 2. Spurs 3. 76ers 4. Hornets 5. Jazz 6. Wizards 7. Pelicans 8. Nets 9. Raptors 10. Rockets 11. Trail Blazers 12. Bulls 13. Hawks 14. Spurs

The strong rumor going in and I’m sure now is both lottery picks are headed to Milwaukee. Which will make the Spurs a top 3 team in the west for certain if Wemby’s remotely healthy.
Raziel Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Yeah, I'll totally take sending the 2 and 14 to the Bucks for Giannis. Giannis, Wemby, Fox, and Castle all healthy will be fun to watch. 2
Contentious C Posted May 13 Posted May 13 The best part of that fantasy booking is Giannis can give up on the idea that he should develop a 3, because Wemby can do it already. So he can just rim-run and be an absolute pest on defense. Wemby/Giannis/Sochan would instantly be the best defensive frontcourt since probably the 04 Pistons. 1

Just Adam Bay Bay Posted May 13 Posted May 13 I’d say the other safe bet is Lakers vs Mavs on Christmas this year too. So they can run Luka/Lebron vs AD/Flagg
hammerva Posted May 13 Posted May 13 At this rate I am convinced if the Wizards only won 5 games next year they would be lucky to get a top 4 pick. Really defeats the purpose of tanking when you are historically unlucky in these lottery 1

RandomAct Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Now I'm more convinced than ever that the league had a hand in forcing the Luka trade in the first place. It all feels a little to convenient. Also, they don't want their next big prospect stuck in Hornets/Wizards purgatory. 1
Dolfan in NYC Posted May 13 Posted May 13 The Estate of Paul Allen has officially put the Trailblazers up for sale. Proceeds will be donated to charities per his wishes. The sale process is expected to go on through 2026.

Dolfan in NYC Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Adam Silver will present a formal proposal to expand to 32 teams during the owners offseason meeting. They'd begin play in 2029 or 2030. If they go with it (expected), the franchises are probably going to Seattle and Las Vegas. 1

Over the last decade, they've had the second-worst lottery luck and the league changed the rules because Detroit kept getting screwed so bad.

If/when this happens, Memphis and New Orleans almost certainly become East teams, yes?
Brian Fowler Posted May 14 Posted May 14 3 minutes ago, RandomAct said: If/when this happens, Memphis and New Orleans almost certainly become East teams, yes? Only one team would have to move to the East, that way it would be 16 each conference. There's three options for who to move East. If you go purely by geography, it's Memphis slightly edging New Orleans. But both of them are in a division with the Texas teams and the travel isn't altogether bad. If they are actually worried about reducing travel on the players/environmental impact then Minnesota is actually by far the best choice. Right now they are traveling twice a year to Portland, Utah, Denver, and OKC. A move to the East and likely to four divisions of four teams each would put them in a group with probably Milwaukee, Chicago, and maybe Indiana or possibly Detroit. That's a massive reduction in miles flown. 2
