Dolfan in NYC Posted April 9 Posted April 9  On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair... Warm smell of colitas rising up through the air... Well Dynasty happened on Sunday and we have a new... um... hmm. *looks down the match list* OH... a new TNT Champion!  Adam Cole and his baby will reign terror over the mid-card until his next concussion!   Speaking of concussions! Cope got his head caved in by FTR. I wonder who (or whom!) will come and save him. Who in all Christendom will come...   Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light... My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim, I had to stop for the night. Oh but who cares about anything on that dumb PPV except for this: Yeah, that's the stuff.  There she stood in the doorway, I heard the mission bell... And I was thinkin' to myself, "This could be heaven or this could be hell"... On to this week.... The Young Bucks talk!  Who doesn't like that?   Oh, and prob a few more OH Tournament matches. Whee!  (I always thought this song was about addiction and rehab. But it's truly great when I hear a completely different and equally valid interpretation.) Enjoy the week 1 1
stuntmanc Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Pac v Swerve, Rosa/Statlander w/Toni on commentary and Hook/Joe v Claudio/Wheeler are on tap for tonight.  5
NikoBaltimore Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Dolfan, we only know so much of either other and there's no way anybody would have known. But using "Hotel California" for a week where I'm going to Dynamite feels oddly fitting. It was my father-in-law's favorite song and still makes us pause when we hear it. You didn't know yet thanks anyway. I have a good feeling about the show. Got a fairly decent seat at a good price, there's some killer cheesesteak place I can't wait to get to and I took a half day tomorrow to sleep in a little. So I'm more than ready for some AEW and ROH goodness. 9
Technico Support Posted April 9 Posted April 9 I would have also accepted: Workin' on my Kevin Knight Moves Private Party All the Time Big in New Japan

I am passing on this one as it's mid-week (and not spring break week which might have worked out in its own way, but that's next week). They've announced Stat vs Rosa Claudio/Yuta vs Joe/HOOK Swerve vs PAC. I would have much rather had a Collision taping, both because it's easier on Saturday and also because the one this weekend (Springfield MA) is getting a trios with Atlantis Jr./Fuego/Esfinge vs Cavernario/Zandokan, Jr./Euforia. 2
NikoBaltimore Posted April 9 Posted April 9 I am happy to get Dynamite but am begging for a Collision on Saturday. I could have my wife and friends join, there's pre-gaming at Heavy Seas time permitting and we don't have to worry about work. I'm fine with going alone tonight but come on, TK! If I do get anything of note I'll let you know. If they're on the east coast already I'm hoping some of them show up. 2
Zimbra Posted April 9 Posted April 9 (edited) Hell yeah, we get a big, dumb 8-man tag: Will Ospreay/Speedball/Briscoe/Kevin Knight vs Ricochet/Andretti/Lio/Mortos. Winning team gets $400K and Ospreay and Ricochet are the team captains for some unexplained reason. E: Also, too: Mox/Shibata Edited April 9 by Zimbra 1

Not everything needs build.  I’ll have more in-depth thoughts on this show later, but for now I’ll just reiterate that I find it both hypocritical and hilarious that so many of yall are bitching about the Death Riders doing what they’re doing when yall are the same folks who tried to convince me that it was fine when Kenny & the Jacksons did this same exact shit 4 years ago. Only Mox isn’t hemorrhaging viewers like the Elite did.
Kevin Wilson Posted April 10 Posted April 10 That was probably the flattest Dynamite this year so far. Even a flat Dynamite isn't necessarily bad, as I enjoyed the women's match and the eight man tag. But it was such a Death Riders-heavy show, the Omega promo just didn't really land and even just drew can agree that the last thing the Death Riders needed was the Young Bucks on their side. The Page stuff is a little confusing although I still find his character really compelling so curious where they are going with it. One so-so show isn't going to matter, not every Dynamite can have five star matches and killer promos, but definitely more a "story driven" show to get to the next series of events then one with memorable action. Hope PAC isn't too hurt, although they clearly went straight to the finish. But since they did the trios title challenge at the end I hope that means he is at least well enough do wrestle in trios action which would be a good sign as it would imply he didn't break anything. 1 1
southofheavy Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Dookie. *sigh* Kenny...why are you such a goddamn dork? Also, I'da gone with CaliFTRnia Sun as done by The Ramones.  1
NikoBaltimore Posted April 10 Posted April 10 I'm tempted to save this for tomorrow but hey why not do a "Just got home and I'm kind of tired but kind of not" road report? As soon as I clocked out I hauled ass to a place my friend told me about that I always wanted to try. With it only being a few miles from the arena while a bunch of poor schmucks were eating concessions I was having what could be IMO the best cheesesteak in Maryland at Cheesesteak and Co. Holy bats it was so good! I prefer a toastier bread like Angelo's in Philly but they got me with the steak. So, so fucking good. And since I got it so quick I had time for Heavy Seas after all. I realized how much I missed going there and wish I took more advantage of it while I living in Baltimore. One pint of a lovely lager to drown the sorrows of the O's losing today and I was off to the show. Without realizing I got the same section/row that I got last time I went to the show. Which is great as with a wall behind me I could have stood the whole time if I wanted to. My biggest pet peeve with the Baltimore shows is that unless you're one of the first in line you're guaranteed to miss out the local shirt they were selling. This one had an Orioles vibe and I wanted it to bad but all they had was Large. And that sold out quickly as well. Why would you have such a limited amount of shirts and not at least advertise "Hey, get in line early to get one of these shirts!" It's so fucking dumb and I'm bummed they would leave money on the table by not making more. ROH: Spoiler Well, I didn't get any luchadors but ROH gave me Ishii and Rocky against Top Flight. Fun match but I was just loving that Ishiii was there. Then we had Archer against...*checks notes* Crowbar?! Why, yes. Crowbar! And ironically or not he was over in Baltimore! Fun little match that he me laughing in bewilderment the whole time. Then we had Bandido against Lethal in a Proving Ground match which was nice while it lasted. But it wasn't lost on me how this would have been a 30+ ROH main event back in the day and it made me kind of sad there wasn't a feud between the two. Lethal's heel run was fun and it could have led to some cool shit leading up the match. Dynamite time! The first half was so my shit. Shibata vs Mox might have had a weak sauce ending (Shibata should not be losing to a choke. Beatdown and Paradigm Shift sure, whatever) But it was still really fucking cool that I was getting this live. Bucks were whatever and Kenny's promo was fine for what it was. But when he gets in then you get Rainmaker and Swerve I pretty much lost my fucking mind. Make no mistake about it, Baltimore fucking LOVED Swerve. From where I was I didn't bother to do the dance but got an incredible video of everybody losing their minds. The match was fun though it really sucked about Pac. Hope he's okay but it was immediately apparent it was a match-ender when he went outside. Then we get my favorite MOTN in the 8-man tag. I had no idea it was coming but when they showed the graphic I was just delighted. They all come out and seeing all 8 made me go "Yeah, this is why I love AEW so fucking much." You had Ospreay, Knight and Ricochet in there, gnarly meaty men like Mortos and for good measure you had Briscoe and Cru who all had deep ties with Maryland. And yeah Speedball was great too but I wanted Briscoe to get the hot tag. But I get they held off as the point was to make Knight look good which he did, especially with that finish. Oh, and remember what I said about Swerve? Well the same can be said about Hurt Syndicate. They were over as a motherfucker and again the video of the crowd freaking out was aces. I hope it sounded good on TV because the crowd was hot live. Spoiler I started to lose the enthusiasm because when Stat/Rosa started some dipshit teen was saying things about Stat's looks, particularly about gender. It pissed me off and I wanted to say something yet the protests I've been to so far have taught me it's not worth and to try and block it out. I was really hoping to just take my mind off it it all for two hours yet that shit slapped me with a dose of reality that I wish didn't occur. I did what I could to forget about it but the little shit was next to me the rest of the show. I hope he gets shoved into a locker or something. But the match itself was good. I walked around for the Learning Tree stuff because fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck that noise. I did peek in though and saw the TV get smashed so that was fun. As for the main it was good but I was already getting ready for hopefully ROH stuff after Dynamite. The match ends, Joe's hanging around and Caster comes out doing his schtick. Joe basically headbutts him, does a muscle buster and after the "One more time!" chant does one more. I'm getting ready for some ROH goodness when Roberts essentially says "Thanks for coming out! Good night!" I was pretty disappointed yet with Rampage not being a thing can see why they would end it around 10:15. But still, I wanted more ROH and I am cool with Massachusetts yet am not driving all that way for a show. All in all I had a blast with the ROH stuff and first half being the best. If it felt flat to TV viewers I won't argue but it was really fun and there's something about the view I had seeing damn near the whole crowd flip out over certain things. 11 2

John E. Dynamite Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Still the best AEW show I've seen in that arena. Hook puked. 1
DreamBroken Posted April 10 Posted April 10 the $400,000 EXPLOSIVE eight man tag was awesome. Loved the fired up Survivor Series style team promo from the faces before the match. All of them hitting their dives ruled, and then the Ricochet land on his feet to get jumped spot was tremendous. I was rooting for Thunder, so a bit surprised to see her go out in the first round. Interested to see how the Owen cup plays out, if Mercedes and Athena cost each other matches or if we're getting the match in round 2 next week in Boston. Dug the finish to the main event with the trio of chokes going on. 2 1
The Green Meanie Posted April 10 Posted April 10 My wife said that Team Osprey was basically a D&D Group. Osprey was the wizard, Briscoe the bard, Knight the cleric, and Bailey the rogue. Hangman is still a bad friend, but I like that they're slowly showing him being conflicted. Really enjoyed SUPER PISSED OFF Tony. "If we were a team, we'd be called Thunder Thighs" - Toni Storm 2

I've never had cheesesteak before. It's an American tradition, right like hot dogs and apple pie? Just not American Pie (1999) style for the latter ;). Sorry for the stereotype! I feel you not getting the shirt local to you. A frequent criticism of AEW shows is a limited number of shirts, the lack of choices and the price. I've only ever been to give WWE house shows as even there, the standing/travel takes it out of me. You get a good selection of choices. Touch wood I've picked up every "I was there" shirt. I'm sometimes a Large, sometimes an XL. I'd rather have a baggie shirt than a tight one. Cool you were in the same section/row as before without knowing beforehand. I was hoping you'd do the Prince Nana dance and see on camera like you so kindly brought "The Natural" sign with you before: https://deathvalleydriver.com/forum/uploads/monthly_2022_01/fa3zcg2.png.d864d3ac68bf82d1fd7dc5a93258c07a.png Cheers to you and AxB for that. Sorry you had to sit through the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega promos. Glad you got to see Kazuchika Okada live, in my top ten Greatest Wrestlers of All Time. Out of the 8 man tag, Mark Briscoe is by far the one I'd want to see the most. Mark really should be pushed as an AEW main eventer. He's different in a good way standing out for the right reasons. Sucks PAC is injured. He's had it rough with the amount of them. Don't blame you skipping the Learning Tree. Love you, pal! Edited April 10 by The Natural 2
