So Hash went from Puerto Rico in '88 (which is where they formed the Three Musketeers! Huh.) to Memphis in '89 and back to Japan the same year. Busy man.

Yeah, I purged my Pantera tour shirts because of all the stars n' bars. It's too bad Phil is such a fuck because some of those riffs just sound like crushing beers and ripping bongs in the garage aka perfect. 

My pick for show title of the year (so far) goes to Big Japan with "We Will Try To Rock as Much as Possible ." Haven't watched it yet but it has an old favorite,  the scramble bunkhouse death match.

The WWF, for whatever reason, never really paired Martel with a manager aside from Slick

There was the angle leading up to their match at Summerslam '92 where Michaels and Martel were fighting over Sherri.

My thoughts just went "man who wouldn't be fighting over Sherri" to "damn if I was in the fed I would have been partying with Sherri then". I probably shouldn't get my hopes up even in my fantasy booking, though.

Sherri was my first wrestling crush. That promo at the '91 Royal Rumble where she tries to seduce the Warrior was the first time I noticed Sherri made 10 year old me feel funny in the pants.

You also get Del Wilkes making his debut as the DREAM WEAVER (yes, guess what he comes out to), Master of Pain aka Mark Calaway looking like a freakish version of a grown Opie Griffith, a freshly turned heel Rock N Roll Express, and Scott Steiner who already looks like a main event star as 1/2 of a jobber tag team against the Stud Stable consisting of future WCW jobber extraordinaire/territory journeyman Frankie Lancaster and Jimmy Golden four years away from being Bunkhouse Buck. 

It was one hell of a show honestly. Tojo Yamamoto's selling of Dream Weaver's sleeper is a must see. I have seen videos of people being hit with tasers where there is less animation.

What's funny is by 89, Scott had swapped the CWA Tag Belts with Golden a couple times so he wasn't a jobber.  

I also watched that show recently, and remember the recap of Hash DDTing someone I can't remember who through a table.

They did the week on BTS recently with the debut of the Dream Weaver.  What’s funny is that Del had briefly worked a couple house shows a month of two earlier.

I think you've already seen it, but I've put a Bret vs Martel match in Wrestling on the Internet not from the now. 

There's another match between the two that I've seen, a long time ago. It was on one of those WWF compilation VHS videos called Bashed in the USA, which my brother bought me for Christmas in 1992-ish. It was the first WWF wrestling I'd watched that I actually thought was good, that match. The rest of the tape was largely awful, as I recall. It's probably showing up on WWE Vault soon (or already there).

There's a '90 match (on a Colosseum Video, maybe Supertape or Wrestlefest) with Bret vs Martel, from back when Martel was the one with the bigger push. That one at least was terrific little match that went to a time limit draw.

In '92 they would be already on so different levels of push that no one would think Martel could win, so the possibility of a boring, heatless match rises significantly.

The one that got posted in the Not from the Now thread (9 minutes long) wasn't bad. Martel was a great heel! As I said over there he reminded me of Gino Fernandez. He was great at begging off, cheating, acting arrogant and narcissistic, busted out a cartwheel immediately that told me "yeah he can be a heel". Extremely smug. I am really only familiar with the elder workrate artist Martel that briefly showed up in WCW, only to get injured and end his career. That was a killer little run. 

EDIT: Hernandez, not Fernandez, dammit. But now I'm thinking of a tag run with him and Manny and am flipped over the possibility. They could make it out like it was his uncle from Nam or something; ugliest man and prettiest man?

Watching the videos as an adult, I am not let down.

Memphis was can't miss weekly tv for us kids in MS. Even now put one of the Memphis stars from the 70s thru mid 90s on an indie show and they will draw in a decent amount of fans.
