also, found it interesting when Beau mentioned how many high schools in his areas had large gyms that could host wrestling without it being a glaring "this is in a high school gym" thing... Viking Hall (Bristol) has 6000 seats, the Buck Van Huss Dome has 5500 seats, Freedom Hall Civic Center has 6000-8000 seats

so some parts of that area really did a two-for for having high school buildings that could be used for practically anything in the area... guessing there were no shortage of unexpectedly big venues in high schools for Smoky TV tapings too

It’s certainly true for Indiana high school basketball gyms, where are probably nicer than college arenas across the country.

Northside Gym(Elkhart, IN) seats 7300, was a weekly WWA stop in the 60s and is connected to a middle school.

I just remember that when they filmed Blue Chips, I was sports editor that summer and they invited our folks to be extras as press row writers. And whichever high school doubled for that college, it was nicer than a lot of mid major college gyms and some power conference buildings.

The Wiki lists Frankfort High School as the arena interior for the movie. That's also the same high school that Buck Robley went to.

I can never remember my Indiana towns anymore. I thought it might have been Frsnklin or another F town (not Ft Wayne,).

French Lick? That's closer to Bloomington.

I stopped listening to Stevie's pod because I felt like he was getting too far into Cornette style "wrestling sucks now" commentary in a cynical bid for that audience, but then a Stevie video came up in my YouTube scrolling.  He was going to do an analysis of the FTR/Undisputed shitshow from a few weeks back and I thought, "it'll be cool to see an analysis from a worker here."  One minute in, he makes a dumb comment about how Meltzer probably gave this match 7 stars anyway, and the Generic English Hanger On/Cohost #73 jumps in to parrot it.  Ugh.  I can't even with this bullshit.  Brother, you worked for ECW and late era WCW.  The old time marks are never going to love you.

a bunch of 1990s ECW mainstays were also northeastern guys whose first wrestling was pre-expansion WWF, so there might be a certain amount of contradiction between the wrestling they grew up watching and ECW

Stevie was a guy who grew up in Philly loving Crockett. So you can see how he prefers a more technical style than some of the stuff he saw and did in ecw.

Case Arena, named after former Frankfort High School coach Everett Case, holds over 5000 without a bad seat in the building.  I watched the old single class basketball sectionals there every year from junior high through high school.  It's about 20 blocks down the road from my front door.  In January of 2024, they hosted a 30th anniversary game between the home team Frankfort Hot Dogs as the Western University Dolphins and the visiting Rossville Hornets playing as the Indiana Hoosiers.

The Othership Podcast that I do with some friends celebrated our 2nd anniversary last weekend with a Territory Fantasy Draft episode.  https://wrestlecopia.com/othership/othership105/

This week, we had good friend Barry Rose on the show to recap the great time we had at his latest wrestling convention in Lutz, Florida, Glory Days Grapplecon 2!  https://wrestlecopia.com/othership/othership106/

I can listen to people interview wrestlers for podcasts ala Insight which is a little bit fluffy but still an enjoyable listen but I don’t think I’ll ever listen to another wrestler lead podcast again.

i fully understand that criticism of Stevie's pod, but i have to say that i do enjoy when i selectively watch clips on YouTube. Emphasis on "selectively".

Stevie also has a tendency to view WWE as "big time" and everybody else as minor league. He was talking about the Edge/Moxley match with the nailbat spot, and was saying something like "Moxley doesn't have to do that. It might actually hurt his chances of going back to WWE." He's made other similar comments as well, but that one stood out to me since Mox has been explicit in not wanting to go back.

...Does he know the matches Moxley was having BEFORE he ever got to WWE? If that shit didn't discourage them from taking a chance and he was just some dude on the indies, then nothing will if he is now more known.

It did occur to me the other day the mania 3 way is Shield centric and was just missing Moxley in it for the whole package.
