I'm on part three now and these are two things I've never heard before: Mushnick insisted that the NWA World Champion always have a college degree, and use their actual name. The latter is crazy to think of because it's so obvious in retrospect. Lou Thesz. Buddy Rogers. Gene Kiniski. Dory Funk Jr. Terry Funk. Jack Brisco. Harley Race. All real names.

Do you mean a realistic sounding name? Because Buddy’s real name is Herman Rohde.

not dissimilar to JC’s name test about choosing a champion.

He never looked at their driver’s license

Finished part 4 (whew!). Kind of more a wrap-up than anything, but if you haven't seen the Black Saturday episode of Dark Side of the Ring then you'll want to check it. Lot more Gerry talking in 3 and 4.

Not sure if this goes in the Podcast stuff but the latest version of Cody Rhodes "What do you want to talk about" Youtube show features Kevin Owens and it is very good and at least from first half isn't very WWE centric talking about their indie stuff

I held off on those due to the WWE part but him with KO was a must-watch.  The indy discussion covered a lot more than I expected and even the WWE stuff is fun.  I said enough about WWE in the past but I do love a lot of the people there and would recommend this.

Saw a bunch of people claiming KO "cooked" Cardona by saying he can't call himself the "indie god" but be openly trying to get back in WWE(which, I'm sure he wouldn't be upset but I bet he's making good money on his own with all his action figures and podcasts) but it's going over their head that that's the gimmick! He's a heel. He thinks he's WWE-level not indie level and he's letting the fans know it. Am I wrong in reading the gimmick that way? Am I cooked??? Or, to paraphrase Principal Skinner,  is it the fans who are wrong?

That's how I've interpreted it as well.  I thought it was weird that people were claiming KO was taking legitimate shots at Cardona, glad I'm not the only one.

That's been Cardona's gimmick for years so not sure if KO was feeding into it for giggles or actually unaware. Either way I'm sure Matt will address it on the podcast next week.

The latest episode of Outlaws to Independents is four hours long and it flowed like water. I listened while driving and working and it never dragged.

Way of the Blade pod has been really fun with their current Canonical project. Starting with different Death Match companies/ areas and it sounds like it’ll go into other forms of wrestling. I listened out of order and still enjoyed it. Highly recommend and it’s my favorite pod to look forward to now.

Yeah, it’s been great. I’d never seen the Sami Callahan/Danny Havoc match they talked about in the CZW episode, and it’s fucking great.

I also liked hearing some love for IWAMS. We all know the stories about Ian, but damn that promotion has put out some amazing stuff over the years.

One gripe: we need a new episode! Dammit, Schneider! I know you’ve been around here lately. Get on it, man!

I’m legit bummed I binged through it instead of spacing them out lol

I added a lot to my watch list. Kingston vs Rotten in the cage is beautifully icky.

I’m really happy it sounds like it’ll be a long running idea outside of Death Matches too. I’m glad to learn more Death Matches but also excited for when they get to lucha and territory stuff.

Boy you know it's an Ian run show when some fat fuck is folding up a rebel flag in his lap when they start rolling tape

EDIT: That was fuckin' nasty is what that was. The screams were real uncomfortable. That's kind of your baseline for how you might feel about that match, if you're gonna get upset by the wails of human suffering, don't watch. Ian's face in that promo after is disgusting.

Becky Lynch was the guest on the latest episode of Are You Garbage? They talked almost zero wrestling and it's a fun listen.
