stuntmanc Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 Just now, SovietShooter said: Personally, I think MJF's long-winded promos are kind of a played out trope at this point, but when Hangman got the mic and started taking about Daniels, the crowd fell dead silent, and in a good way. They wanted to hear exactly what Page had to say; He had them in the palm of his hand. Hangman is the main character and undisputable Ace of AEW. Like he said in the promo, he is "real". I'm always going to be the highest voter on Hangman, as since AEW started, he's managed to be in some of my all time favorite AEW matches against a myriad of opponents (w/Omega v The Bucks, Swerve, Danielson, Moxley) but everytime you give him a mic in a big moment, he ALWAYS manages to kill the promo. Him and Toni Storm are the most fleshed out characters in AEW history, easily, IMO. His full blown face turn is coming, while still keeping "Angry and violent" Hangman aspects and it;s going to be glorious. Biased as hell, but I know im not the only to think he absolutely shouldbe the one to dethrone Moxley. Especially because I still believe he's the only person in AEW history to actually make Mox tap out and (i might need a fact check here), that was the beginning of Mox's turn towards heelish tendencies. TK loves his long term booking angles and that is right there. I get that Darby is most likely the person to do it, and we have the looming Cope/Christian/Mox briefcase telegraph, but i dont think anyone else but Hangman should beat Mox. 4
stuntmanc Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 and I completely agree with you about MJF, but he definitely sounded invested last night and not just going through the motions. I like MJF but never understood the hype around him and I still have issues with how his selfishness pretty much neutered Wardlow's big win over him. 3

Zimbra Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 I really liked the Riccaboni/Excalibur/Taz booth, especially the Rock 'n Jock talk. Maybe now that ricky bones finished his degree they can get him on some more shows. Toni Storm is a goddamned star, when she's not on screen the other wrestlers should be asking "Where's Toni Storm?" Very much looking forward to Willow/Shafir whenever that happens. Was that the first time anyone has acknowledged Mox and Renee being married on screen? 3
Curt McGirt Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 I know Nico means well but giving him that one, no. Watch Saturday's show instead.

Also because a bunch of the roster just flew to Australia and back within the last week I think the only people wrestling last night who wrestled in Australia was Big Bill, who worked a six man in Brisbane

No, I distinctly remember Hangman saying something to Renee in a backstage interview, something along the lines of "Oh, don't act like you don't know what your husband is out there doing". 2 2
RazorbladeKiss87 Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 (edited) First things first: TK, we know you're reading this. After tonight the ONLY acceptable outcome is Willow dismantling the Death Riders and winning the title. Nothing else will suffice. Is Willow the first to cast shade on Renee for Mox's actions? EDIT: just saw the post above me haha. Cope had a good promo. "These are my people!" is a guaranteed pop but it worked well. Bayne vs Stat was good too. I think a new dream match would be Rhea vs Stat. The high belly to belly from Bayne was SIIIICK. Tazz had a good one during PIP saying he wished he had hair like Bayne. Rick O'Shea's promo was a great "I'm not mad! Who said I'm mad?" promo. I'm really loving his character work. I'm honestly thinking about borrowing the turtle neck and chain look. Nana killed it too. A thought I had is that AEW might be missing out by not doing something to feature Hook and Nick Wayne in promotional stuff. I gave one of my coworkers a Hook card because she thinks he's cute and the girls at work saw it. They all were asking what he does and talking about how cute he is. Would that translate to more views? I donno but it's worth a shot. Maybe add a third hour of MatRats style tv? (NOT A REAL SUGGESTION TONY) Edited February 20, 2025 by RazorbladeKiss87 2
Go2Sleep Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 As far as 20-minute opening promos go, that was one of the better ones. Hangman's got the real fire, and MJF always comes across better when he shows some actual vulnerability instead of just shitting on everything his opponent said. BS finish aside, Stat/Bayne was a really good match. Not sure why Bayne has been working that awkward methodical style in her first few matches, she looked a million times better and more imposing in this high-impact sprint. Stat is Will Ospreay tier in terms of always getting the best possible match out of any given opponent. Only thing I didn't like was the Willow segment. Of course she shouldn't be getting chumped by Marina 2 weeks in a row without any retribution, but I think what bugged me the most was calling out that Mox and Renee are married. Yes, we all know that they are married irl, but it makes zero sense for their on-screen characters to be married. It's not a Steph/HHH situation. Mox is a delusional madman and Renee is a journalist. Leave it that. I hate how every wrestling couple has to make it part of their on screen character. 1
The Natural Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AfQ6S_Z_jGk Thunder Rosa part cut out.
Craig H Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 I've been saying it for about forever now, but Hangman needs to be the one to dethrone Moxley. Darby has fucked off to the other side of the planet and can't be trusted with his body. Do you really want to do THIS long of a build, put the title on Darby, and then risk him getting injured in the match or soon after? I know he hasn't suffered any major injuries yet, but he has punched more holes on his bump card faster than anyone else I can remember at this high of a level. Even faster than the Hardys. Anyone can get injured at any time, but if you're doing this long of a build, I'd go with the safer bet in Hangman. Plus, Hangman is ridiculously over and as I have said on here, as many others have said on here, and as has been said meow on AEW TV, HE IS THE MAIN CHARACTER. You already teased him going after Moxley, hell, he's thrown hands with Moxley... And since MJF referenced the first Double or Nothing, STRAP UP HANGMAN AT DOUBLE OR NOTHING. Send a maniac to catch a maniac and all that. 3 1

Raziel Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 Good god, why is this company NOT build around Hangman? 3 2
Craig H Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 I keep asking the same fucking question. TK's tunnel vision booking is sometimes good, but it often pulls wrestlers out of positions that they should be in. Hangman gets everyone and nearly everything over because he's the most authentic, relatable, and genuine wrestler in pro wrestling. Was Swerve on the verge of hitting it big? Sure, but that feud with Hanger and what Hanger did for Swerve put Swerve over the top. Everything Adam Page touches turns to gold. I know he was in and out for various family reasons and I have to believe that at this point Page is able to say when he wants to take a break, but AEW should revolve around Hangman. I really think if TK actually put Page front and center every week the company would be doing bigger business. And sadly, I think if he ever went to WWE, there's no way he would connect as well as he does in AEW. 2 1
HarryArchieGus Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 It’s so great to see a guy as talented as Ricochet break away from the ‘universe’ and find his way as well as he has. It’s also great to see a talented wrestler become truly great. 4
NoFistsJustFlips Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 Hangman vs Omega, Hangman vs Ospreay, Hangman vs Jay White, Hangman vs MJF, Hangman vs Swerve, Hangman vs Lashley, Hangman vs Darby, Hangman vs Kyle Fletcher, Hangman vs Okada, Hangman vs Mortos, Hangman vs Ricochet. I could keep going. But literally every match there sounds dope. I'm on board with Hangman as the ace. The world title shouldn't just be 1 of 5 equal divisions. It's should be THE division. Quit segmenting the roster so much. Put the belt on someone the audience loves and let him kick some ass with the best of the best. 3
Curt McGirt Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 This makes me remember that we haven't had an actual Hangman Page singles match since when? Edge keeping his promos short is soooooo much better than that 20 minute crap we got in his last WWE run. Why did he do that, anyway?

I don't think it hurts Willow any to have Marina get the better of her again under the circumstances. And I agree with you on the marriage thing; AEW's tradition of conflating reality with the storylines is really annoying. But as discussed above, it's not like this is the first time the the marriage was acknowledged. They've been married in-character since Renee arrived in AEW.

Leonidas Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 We know wrestlers are tough but damn kudos to Kip Sabian, 100% got hurt on Joe's senton early in the match. Could see him favouring his ribs on the apron and talking to Christian about it, still took a spear from Shibata and finished the match. 1
