hammerva Posted December 11, 2025 Posted December 11, 2025 This should probably be in the media one as well but just watched the new 30 for 30 on Stuart Scott and very good as expected. Stu is definitely one of those "don't know what you got til it's gone" for me. I did think at the time he was a bit excessive. Which ironically is one of the things that caused him to get stuck at ESPN2. One of the things that looks extremely stupid now given that it was clear they wanted ESPN2 to be the "alternative/edgy" version while ESPN was the shirt and tie group. I feel like people who thought he was "too black" probably love the current talking head version of the company. Now we would kill for guys like Stu and the other talking heads at the time. Also shows you how much respect sports media (more specifically black media) had for him as there was people on there like Michael Smith and Jemele Hill who left ESPN on terrible terms. The last 15-20 minutes is very sad but also very inspirational. That man was losing weight on the daily with cancer eating him up and working out and exercising as normal as possible Also had no idea that Stuart Scott tried to train for the Jets. He always wanted to play football but he only had one good eye. Needless to say one shot at the jug machine hitting him in the other eye changed that quick. Also on a unrelated note, Suzy Kolber must have joined ESPN at a really young age because she has that Jennifer Garner aging process going on. Damn. Okay I will settle down now 2
zendragon Posted December 11, 2025 Posted December 11, 2025 yhea I've heard about him doing MMA training while being treated for cancer
Brian Fowler Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 Stu & Rich and Dan & Keith are "my" SportsCenter and what I'll always think of first when I think of the show, even decades and decades after it ended. 1

Learned today that Dan and Stu apparently had some heat with each other. Stu was apparently ... let's say "competitive" ... during the staff basketball games. Dan was better than him and was talking trash after Stu was being overly aggressive and went for a layup. Stu undercut him, sending Dan to the hospital with a chipped vertebrae.
odessasteps Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 I know DP was good enough to at least make the squad at Dayton
zendragon Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 I would also imagine he had a good bit of height on Stu

Pretty straight forward and fun watch. Some things that I either didn't know or remember: 1. The Patriots did their own version of the song and it is just as cheesy as you would expect from the 1985 Patriots. At least the Bears tried to rap as the Pats just did some awful lip synching to some local band 2. I knew that the Shuffle was taped during the season but had no idea it was taped the night after they lost to the Dolphins on MNF. If it wasn't for Singletary they probably wouldn't wouldn't have done it at all. 1
