Don't forget, that's the same era where a comedy football website was named after Joe Namath attempting to sexually assault Susie Kolber on live TV.

The Untold on Brett Favre was surprisingly honest given the history of Netflix and especially the Untold series.  I guess they figured they were never going to get Favre in the interview they might as well tell the story.  Most of the story seemed to be more about Jen Sterger instead of the Mississippi welfare scandal.  I guess that makes sense given who was interviewed.   The main thing on watching is that for people who think that women in sports media in any form are treated unfairly (which most cases are),  you have NO idea how bad it was about 15-20 years ago.  Jen was basically slut shamed when she never once met Favre and it was a one sided attempt.   Even the non sports talking heads at that time was treating her badly.  Her career is pretty much dead.  But hey because Brent Musburger got all horny during a FSU vs Miami game it was deservedly so in their dumbass mind.

That also ended up giving us Lana, FBOW.

Watched the HBO documentary  about the Ohio State scandal involved Richard Strauss and his long long history of sexual abuse of men.  When you get it in you think well we know about the Larry Nassar situation at Michigan State so it can't be worse.  Oh this is so fucking worse on so many levels and not just because it is man on man.  Imagine if Nassar was doing his sick shit to almost every female sports program at the school and also to just some students as well because he had that much power.   Over 170 rapes and a couple thousand sexual misconducts.   One of them of course involving current UFC Hall of Fame Mark Coleman .   The level of coverup and passing the buck is shameful.  I mean you knew Jim Jordan (assistant coach) at the time was going to turn their back on them he is a piece of shit.  But to have a couple dozen tell the head coach the story and the coach doing nothing.  Then the administration trying to put it under the rug and offer a  settlement program that was almost a million dollar less per victim then Penn State and Michigan state.   Fucking shameful.  I doubt this will change anyone opinion on the school but man it sure as fuck won't strengthen it

The thing that is just utterly shocking to think about for me is that Strauss and Nassar pretty much overlap with Dr Anderson at Michigan and Jerry Sandusky at Penn State. Four different schools in the same conference, all within 450 miles of each other, that had more or less concurrent unchecked sexual predators in their athletic department.

Last night's 30 for 30 was Empire Skate which talked about the rise of New York City skating scene from the 90's and the things that grew from it like Supreme store.   Very gritty/grimy story (definitely not your Tony Hawk on the other side) and in some cases sad story as some of the originals died and even the store that risen from it became different and not what people envisioned.   If you are into the culture or even the culture of New York City around that time it is pretty cool to watch

Started watching the Any Given Saturday series about the SEC.  It is pretty good but standing Netflix sport documentary stuff.  The best one so far is episode 3 which is all about the Vanderbilt legendary upset of Alabama and Arkansas win over Tennessee last year.  Really good shit showing how hard it is to be improve a Vandy program that is considered a laughing stock by the conference.  Diego Pavia is the kind of prick you absolutely hate unless he is on your team.       Also if you thought Finebaum was an asshole this series so far isn't changing your opinion

Also the latest E:60 on the 20th anniversary of Katrina and the impact the Saints had on rebuilding the city is very well done as well

So a 30 for 30 directed by Spike Lee on Colin Kaepernick has been nixed by ESPN

That 10% ownership by NFL paying off once again 😒

The NFL has tv\media deals with pretty much every media conglomerate, they would have shut this down no matter who was releasing it.

America's Team: The Gambler and his Cowboys

Probably the closest we will get to a documentary version of Boys will be Boys

Started watching this yesterday.  I haven't gotten to the juicy stuff as the last thing I saw was end of the Cowboys 2nd Super Bowl.   Pretty standard stuff that I think most knew.  I was impressed on the number of people that they got besides the Big 3 to interview.   Guys like Barry Switzer (showing middle finger in first view),Skip Bayless, Herschel Walker dealing with the trade, and Bill Romanowski to talk about the Niners side of things.   The only things so far that I really didn't know was:

1.  According to Jerry Jones, he tried to buy the San Diego Chargers in his late 20's and was going to use Jimmy Hoffa as one of his money marks.  Dad pretty much told him he was an idiot and didn't do it  Holy shit if that ended up happening.  🤣

2.  Maybe it was common knowledge but I had no idea that Jacksonville wanted Jimmy Johnson to be their first coach.   While coaching the Cowboys

3.  I knew Charles Haley was crazy but man he really really really went out of his way to get off the Niners team

Like I said, it will probably start getting real good from the last 4 episodes

Cocaine Quarterback

Quote

Prime Video is set to release one of the more improbable true-crime sagas in sports history with "Cocaine Quarterback", a new three-part docuseries centered on former USC quarterback Owen Hanson. The project, which is produced by Mark Wahlberg’s Unrealistic Ideas, will premiere on September 25 and chronicles Hanson’s journey from walk-on athlete for the Trojans to international drug trafficker. The trailer was released this week.

Hanson’s story unfolds cinematically, tracing his early years as a Redondo Beach native  before making USC’s football roster in the glory days of the early 2000s. Though he never rose to stardom on the field, he found his name in notoriety off it. First as a campus drug dealer and later as the architect of a sprawling illegal sports betting and narcotics network. At the height of his operation, Hanson counted professional athletes and Hollywood figures among his clients.

The series draws from firsthand accounts, archival material, and dramatizations to frame Hanson’s path. Prime Video describes it as a cautionary tale, steeped in “dangerous debt, absurd criminal mishap, and thrilling FBI investigation.

The arc took a decisive turn in 2015 when Hanson was arrested as part of an FBI sting. Two years later, he pleaded guilty to conspiring to run a drug trafficking, gambling, and money laundering enterprise spanning the U.S., Latin America, and Australia. Hanson received a 21-year sentence and a $5 million forfeiture order. According to the FBI, 21 associates also pleaded guilty in connection with the case.

Hanson ultimately served nine years before his release in March 2024. He spent three months in a halfway house and remains on supervised parole.

Known as “O-Dog” during his prime, Hanson once staged Super Bowl parties in Las Vegas where celebrity wagers and excessive indulgence defined the scene. He later recounted those moments in his memoir "The California Kid."

I don't know if the Netflix documentary about the Expos really explained who or what killed the team (like most Netflix docs) but I know one thing for sure

Younger David Sampson looks and acts EXACTLY like Dan Synder. 🤣

It was pretty obvious back then and now that Loria bought the team with the intention of moving it, not sure why they promoted it as some sort of mystery. My biggest pet peeves with it were everyone acting like a local consortium buying a team to save it from moving was a unique thing for the Expos, it's exactly what happened with the Pirates in 1985 and why we never had New Orleans or Denver Pirates. Also, the English dubbing of the French speakers was comically bad, I swear they used the same voice for all the male speakers and he sounded like someone rejected for the narration of the Canada 360 movie at EPCOT Center.

Of the three football coaches featured on Last Chance U, he's the absolute last one I would have expected to be shot.  He seemed like a decent guy who cared about his players.  With that said, I'm kind of surprised neither of the other two has been shot.  Those two would have had it coming.

In case you missed it, Jason Brown is suing Netflix claiming he was falsely portrayed as a maniac.

I hope that documentary answers the question of why putting my cassette of The Super Bowl Shuffle into my sister's Teddy Ruxpin broke the bear.
