Technico Support Posted May 31 Author Posted May 31 8 hours ago, Zimbra said: It's not the dispensaries: most payment processors won't handle weed payments since it's still illegal federally. Ah, right! I didn’t think of that. Thanks!
Curt McGirt Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Yeah, didn't think about that either. Jane Pay sounds like a straight-up net the cops would use to round people up if they could. It's practically entrapment. 1
FireThunder Posted May 31 Posted May 31 In amidst the new beers I've tried recently, I've found a little treasure. One of the local grocery stores has been selling 24 packs of Pseudo Sue from Toppling Goliath on clearance for $30. Pseudo Sue is one of my favorite beers, an unfiltered pale ale that is crisp and very crushable. It has been revamped several times including a double IPA version called King Sue and a DDH. The DDH version is potentially my top ranked beer of all time but it's a fairly rare find and a bit expensive. I've bought two cases of it so far and I'm seriously wondering if I should run back there before they sell out. LOL 1
Technico Support Posted June 3 Author Posted June 3 This past weekend's beer was Hometown Crew Pilsner from the aforementioned local brewery Loan Oak Farm. It's a Czech style pilsner and I enjoyed it more than their west coast style IPA I had last week. Very flavorful and, as a guy who dislikes wheat beers, it went right up to my line for maltiness, but not over. Really good. Try it if you're in Maryland. 1
Curt McGirt Posted June 16 Posted June 16 https://deathvalleydriver.com/dean_booze/ God, DEAN makes me want to drive to Benny's and break the edge in the parking lot after getting a first paycheck from my next job, from the grave no less. WYCHWOOD HOBGOBLIN ENGLISH ALE. That was my favorite shit ever out of the zillion varieties I tried when the late lamented Friar Tuck's in Savoy was still open. And they even had the infamous Skullsplitter he reviews here! Meanwhile, the last time I bought beer I went to Benny's and they didn't even have Newcastle. But now I see that Newcastle was long ago bought out by Heineken and then they shovelled production over to Lagunitas and now I want to strangle someone. At least they still make Old Rasputin... 1
Technico Support Posted June 16 Author Posted June 16 (edited) My reviews can't touch Dean's. I'm more like "it tasted good" or "it was not good" or "it was okay." Then again, which of us could hold a candle to the great one? At the same time, at least I'm not going on about "mouthfeel" or "lacing" or telling you what kind of glass I decanted my swill from like some Beeradvocate douchebag. Beers of the last two weeks: Dogfish Head Summer Doppio Imperial Pilsner: really tasty Pils but I wouldn't consider it "imperial" at only 7%. To me, imperial is like 8 or higher, the kind of thing I'll look at and say, "I plan on drinking 4 beers while grilling dinner on Saturday, so this is not the best idea." So 7% is a nice spot where it's strong but it won't knock you on your ass and ruin movie night with the family. Definitely recommended. Sierra Nevada Summerfest (shout out to Jeremy Piven!) Lager. I don't know what I was expecting. It's a lager. It was okay, a little malty but kind of bland. Better than a macro lager but that's not saying much. Maybe I'll pick up some limes and make the best of the handful I have left. Modela Negra: drank one at a Mexican restaurant, as one does. "Large" size on tap, served in a chilled mug with a big ol' slice of lime. Really nothing better with a nice plate of Mexican food in a shopping center. I could hear the "Ecstasy of Gold" playing as a narrator described how I am a "fighter" at life. Strongly recommend, but only under these exact circumstances. Edited June 16 by Technico Support 1
Curt McGirt Posted June 16 Posted June 16 God, now you just reminded me of when I used to go to local Mexican places and order "Dos Eck-ee Amber" because I didn't know it was pronounced "Eck-iss" and the servers would look at me like I had two heads and repeat myself until I just pointed at the menu. 4
Technico Support Posted June 30 Author Posted June 30 (edited) This past weekend's beer: finished off the last can of the Sierra Nevada lager, and then moved to Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA. Somehow Sierra Nevada stays inflation-proof at 10.99 a six pack while everything else is going up. I'm sure the independently-owned stores near me sell it for a few bucks higher...big win for my local county-owned stores. Torpedo is 7.2% alcohol and really a can't miss beer if you like IPAs, just really flavorful. Edited June 30 by Technico Support
Zimbra Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Last week I got a lightly-skunked case of Sierra Nevada Tropical ale for under $10 and it was totally acceptable, even in its diminished state. This week I got Founder's Rubaeus, which is brewed with raspberries and is one of my favorite fruit beers. I've had the nitro version on tap and it is incredibly creamy and delicious. 2
gatling Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Rubeaus is a fantastic beer. It's hard to go wrong with anything from Founder's, really.
Curt McGirt Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Are you sure that Sierra Nevada didn't just taste like it was skunked because it's Sierra Nevada?
Technico Support Posted July 7 Author Posted July 7 This weekend's beer was Bell's Two Hearted IPA. I've seen people refer to it as the very best IPA they've ever had. I'm not good with top whatever lists or ranking anything as the best, but I'll say I guess this is up there as far as higher quality, tasty IPAs go. I made the mistake of chilling some glasses for it since Saturday was a hot day. I'm learning that IPAs really aren't great with chilled glasses. Chilled glasses kill the taste and also make it burn going down. I left that glass of beer on the counter for a few minutes and it was much better. Save the chilled glasses for less full-flavored stuff like lagers or maybe even pilsners, which get more crisp from the chill.
