For Great Justice Posted January 14, 2025 Posted January 14, 2025 Between the house metal theme and the taunts, Penta’s debut gave me big “La Parka is the most over guy on Nitro” vibes. And that’s awesome. 2

I just want to state how just overjoyed and proud I am to see the homie as the front page of WWE Shop right now. Yeah I already ordered a mask and hoodie. This is it. No fucking around. Cero Miedo is worldwide. I'm absolutely estatic about this. They were sure to tag all of it as special event items so you can't get the 30% discount though. Pinche wwe. Watching the match I immediately thought "Man, Troma is losing his goddamn mind right now." That guy is gonna sell a shitton of those masks and I might be tempted to get one. The shirt looks pretty boss too though I personally wish it was in black. Glad to see you back and so damn happy about it all. This is gonna be fun. 2

Craig H Posted January 14, 2025 Posted January 14, 2025 Penta fucking rules and that was such an awesome moment. The rest of the show...ehhhhhh...It's still Raw, but now they have a drone camera. And it's 2024 and we're still doing promos with people declaring for the Royal Rumble. Who fucking cares? That fucking thing has 30 people in it. Like, if you're a warm body, you're probably going to be in the Rumble. That shit just feels like such a waste of time and for dumb WWE stuff that bugs me, that bugs me more than pointing at the sign. However, I did enjoy Drew clarifying to Punk that he was talking about Seth and not Punk. It also struck me that it's been a little bit since we've had Drew as the guy who went heel all because he spoke the truth and pointed out how fucking stupid things are. Let's get back to that and Drew mentioning that perked my ears up. 3
Craig H Posted January 14, 2025 Posted January 14, 2025 Oh yeah, I suppose it's worth pointing out that if you're not watching Raw live then there are basically zero commercials and it's infinitely better. They still do the breaking for an ad thing, but it gets right back to the match as if they were coming back from an ad and for the most part it felt seamless enough. Yes, you could always fast forward through commercials if you weren't watching live, but just having it go full steam ahead feels so much fucking better.

A girl was crying in the front row seeing Penta live. For that alone they should strap a rocket to this guy and see where it leads them. To be fair, that was his daughter with their family. But it was still a cool moment. 2

Curt McGirt Posted January 14, 2025 Posted January 14, 2025 Penta can't cut a solid English promo, can he? I can't recall. Otherwise he hits so many WWE marks for success: - Mask (merch) to sell - Catchphrase to chant - Hand gesture for fans to do - Two cool moves That is really close to being a five tool player in their fed. 1
Godfrey Posted January 14, 2025 Posted January 14, 2025 I only saw the opening promo live before watching the Rams cream the Vikings and then skipped through the rest. I liked it, feels like a big time Rumble getting built and I'm into Seth and Drew as the two voices of reason stirring the pot with the Bloodline Penta was dope. It has to be gratifying to know how marketable you are and then hit the top of the merch sales before you even debut. There will be a lot of comparisons in how Penta is treated in WWE, it's more of a litmus test for ex-AEW folks than Cody or Ethan Page and outside wrestlers will be watching how he's pushed. Not only did they get a longer match to show off, Penta executed a bunch of stuff I never saw in AEW (limited viewing habits notwithstanding) and looked awesome doing more with less. Gable never fails to impress either, eventually he'll learn how to lean in to the You Suck chants. Nit pick: German on the apron was a little much as a transition spot to leg work Other than that: Sheamus and Kaiser are always a good time. Gunther and Jey were pretty good too, should be a good test for Gunther to get something compelling out of an Uso singles match. I'll watch the women's matches when they're about something other than a title or a man. Sami actually pinned someone with the Blue Thunder Bomb! Akiyama represent! Main event was standard fare that went long, I just want this feud to be over and it looks like it finally is 1

Ziggy Posted January 14, 2025 Posted January 14, 2025 This show flowed so much better than last week. I watched the show for the Penta debut and it delivered. The biggest sign we are in a new era is Penta getting mic time. Vince McMahon wouldn't bother letting him talk on him first night if much at all. It makes him seem like such a big deal. I was thinking how much different it would have been if he came in with his brother as a tag it wouldn't be so big. People are thinking Lyra vs Becky for the IC title. That would be dope and make that title seem so much bigger than it is if they work Mania vs each other. 1

Curt McGirt Posted January 14, 2025 Posted January 14, 2025 Really good match! Gable was a good choice, the matwork at the start showed immediately that he was a perfect match, and Penta had excellent leg selling the whole way while also running through his whole repertoire (minus the package piledriver). It's a reminder that when he isn't being lazy and coasting on a hand gesture and a catchphrase he can really bust out a good one. If I had seen this as a kid I would've marked out. The micwork was exactly as I remember it: a little English and a lotta Spanish. I don't think anybody's gonna "what" him until he turns heel at some point which will work out just fine after this initial run. Here's a thought. If Fenix is ever gonna come in, it'd be a big deal to have Penta in mortal peril and then all of the sudden BOOM there he is to save the day. I don't want him in for awhile but that's how if so. After that I watched a little of Sheamus/Kaiser then just FF'd to the main, which was pretty fun. The Falcon Arrow through the table off the second level (which it was pretty surreal to hear called a Falcon Arrow instead of a Michinoku Driver in WWE) was gnarly. I always like to see somebody get put in a stretcher and then beat up and wheeled into something, and the other table spots were good too. Also, McAfee is such a fuckin' goof. 2
Pete Posted January 14, 2025 Posted January 14, 2025 My only nit-pick with Penta's debut was that he really needed to buzzsaw Gable from start to finish... or one of his flunkies. Don't get me wrong, the match was great but him working back-and-forth with a guy in his debut came off a bit horsey when having him explode on someone would make more sense. But his presentation was fucking phenomenal. The man has IT and can go... his selling the leg was absolute God-tier to the point I was seriously worried he torched it in his first match. 1

I don't think it's really that much of a concern with how the WWE has been handling things under Trips. They've been more than willing to let talent cut pre-tape promos in their native languages and subtitling them. With the shows airing live in Mexico on Netflix, they might actually encourage it to a degree. 1
Curt McGirt Posted January 14, 2025 Posted January 14, 2025 I'm not concerned with it either. Look how Shinsuke is doing. It was just a random musing.

They went full 50/50, maybe even more so towards Gable, but because the match was so good, I didn't mind it so much. I would have preferred if it was 70/30 Penta, but they wanted to show a competitive match that keeps Gable strong and puts over Penta. The one thing I worried about going in were the ropes and man, he tried hitting that one springboard and the rope looked like it nearly touched the mat. I hate the WWE ropes so much. They've changed so much other stuff since HHH took over. You may as well change to steel cables for the ropes too. I remember AJ Styles complaining about the ropes early on talking about how he had to basically practice on the ropes to figure out how to hit the Phenomenal Forearm and the sweet spot for him seemed to be about 2 feet away from the turnbuckle where there was enough tension in the rope to give him a boost. It's crazy that Jericho hit the Lionsault for all of those years there. I don't know how you problem solve for that if they'll never change from actual ropes, but Penta is a pro with tons of experience so I'm sure he'll figure out plenty of workarounds.

TheVileOne Posted January 14, 2025 Posted January 14, 2025 No idea what the sitch is with Corey Graves. If this does turn out to be some elaborate work to set up Graves vs. McAfee at WrestleMania then bravo. It looks like Triple H and co. have already lost interest in the Wyatt Sicks. Once you beat them there was nowhere for them to go. That stable had no long-term staying power. They were a glorified cover band. They never seriously tried to do anything with any of those guys. Giving Bo Dallas his brother's old gimmick was putting him in a corner. And it basically suffered the same fate as Bray Wyatt/The Fiend. They made a big deal out of their debut but after that, it was all downhill. 2

I was surprised she work ROH at all tbh So there was an unofficial NXT rule that they wouldn't sign anyone they didn't feel comfy putting on the road which translated to legal drinking age in the US. But that must have changed since they signed Thea Hail before she turned 21 (just happened this past September) so I assume they relaxed it a bit. I assume they or Booker wanted her to get some seasoning before joining NXT.
