🎼 Maybe someday, saved by zero, I'll be more together... Stretched by fewer thoughts that leave me...

Well, that was quite the show!   We have a new Women's World Champion!  We have a end(?) to the Punk-Seth feud!  We also have a brand new "GO AWAY" doormat for one Mr. H. Hogan.   Woo!

🎵Chasing after my dreams, disown me, loaded with danger, so maybe I'll win... Maybe I'll win! (saved by zero)

Smackdown happened too, but the BIG news was a massive reset in NXT at New Year's Evil!   We got TWO new champions!

I'm guessing Trick and Roxanne are main roster bound, probably as soon as that little PPV they're about to run.

🎹 Holding onto words that teach me, I will conquer space around me. So maybe I'll win? (saved by zero)

And of course, Chad Gable went up to Adam Pearce saying "everyone says he can't beat a luchador" (??).  S0 n0w he wants to face the best luchad0r in the w0rld.  I w0nder wh0 that luchad0r will be?

It c0uld be just ab0ut any0ne!

(I have the strange desire to buy a Toyota. 🤔)

Enj0y y0ur week!

Following up from last week's thread, Roxanne Perez came out of Booker T's school so she was always WWE bound. I was surprised she work ROH at all tbh

Hope everyone is doing well.

I just want to state how just overjoyed and proud I am to see the homie as the front page of WWE Shop right now.  Yeah I already ordered a mask and hoodie.

This is it.  No fucking around.  Cero Miedo is worldwide.

I'm absolutely estatic about this.

They were sure to tag all of it as special event items so you can't get the 30% discount though.  Pinche wwe.

Blame Paige/Saraya. After her, WWE said they weren't gonna hire that young anymore.

Likely not worth the p.r. hit if your under 21 diva is caught doing (fill in the blank). Especially if it gets leaked on social media.

I watched Raw tonight.

Funny story I was in San Jose over the weekend for Battle In The Valley, really fun show had a blast. When I had booked my flights I had no idea Raw was gonna be in San Jose two days after the show if I had I would have bought tickets and stayed a day later but I flew out of San Jose this Morning so I did not attend the show.

opening segment was ok. I don’t really like the talking segment to open the show but WWE really does. I’m not the biggest fan of Punk or Rollins so I don’t have any investment in this feud. Punk did have line of the night with “why couldn’t it be Rhea Ripley interrupting me”. Seth said something about crushing Punks dreams so he enters the Rumble if Seth really wants to crush Punks dreams of Main Eventing Wrestlemania why not challenge him into a rematch at The Rumble and make it a Last Man Standing Match so he’s too beat up to enter the Rumble later in the night. I do like Drew I thought his Leather Vest was cool looking. But Drew returned on a Raw I was at and attacked Punk now he’s saying Seth and Punk are fighting with each other when all three of them should be fighting Roman Reigns. When did he have this revaluation? I missed it.

Penta’s debut is why I wish attended Raw. Can’t attend them all. A girl was crying in the front row seeing Penta live. For that alone they should strap a rocket to this guy and see where it leads them. Match went longer than I thought it would, was a fun match. I was expecting a 3 minute squash but instead we got a wrestling match. I guess this really is a new era! I was going to say something about how Cole called The Canadian Destroyer the Mexican Destroyer cuz a Mexican guy did it but from the current day AAA I’ve seen the only way a tombstone is performed is as a Canadian Destroyer so maybe at this point it is The Mexican Destroyer. Penta was treated like a big deal tonight which he should be this is a big get for WWE. I hope they realize it’s a big get and he doesn’t become just another guy in the span of two weeks.

Sheamus vs Kaiser in a street fight. What really is a street fight? A No DQ match? Why not just call it a No DQ match, if they are not gonna be fighting in the streets then don’t call it a street fight. I also got an ad break during the match, I understand ads on the live broadcast it’s American everyone who can make a Buck is gonna try to make a Buck but we can’t just do as breaks after the matches. They did ad breaks between entrances why did there have to be an ad break mid match they don’t go to break mid play in an NFL game. Pet peeve of mine. I haven’t spoken much about the match but I don’t know if there is much too talk about. Sheamus won with a brogue kick and it seemed to please the crowd. There was a small “this is awesome chant” but I disagree it was alright but not awesome it wasn’t really a street fight they fought around ringside and used a shillelagh in ring that hardly constitutes as a No DQ Match. I did like the shoving match between Sheamus and Bron after the match. Sheamus can have a good Hoss Match and Bron Breaker looks like he’s built for Hoss Matches.

If they were dead set on having an in ring segment start off the show it should have been Gunther and Jey Uso. Gunther being the arogent champion thinking Jey didn’t stand a shot and Jey giving an impassioned promo about being underestimated before and defying expectations. We got the Main Event for Saturday Night’s Main Event. I’m rooting for Jey to win. I think he should get a big singles push. the man is over and can cut a promo. As long as he doesn’t wrestle Jimmy again talk about a disappointing brother match. But I do think Jey should get a run with The World Championship.

Lyra Valkyria vs Dakota Kai was good another ad during the match I don’t understand why we can’t just not have ad breaks on Netflix between entrances and after matches that should be plenty. Back to the match it was a good match a little short but it was treated like a big deal and the crowd seemed into it.

I do like that Minute Maid commercial.

MIZ does nothing for me there’s been times I’ve been into the angle he was doing but right now no interest, Sami Zayn I’m a big fan whatever he does I’m interested in he knows how to make it interesting. I liked this match. MIZ was perfectly fine in this match. Sami wins no complaints.

With the ovation Rhea Ripley got maybe she should have opened up Raw. I liked Nia’s promo just talking shit on everybody. I think Nia called Baylay BBL Baylay and I chuckled. Nia Jax says what we are all thinking. The heel talks shit and gets beat up by the faces. I’m a sucker for the classics.

So earlier in the show Michael Cole said streetfight then Sheamus vs Kaiser happened and I mistook it for the streetfight explains a lot about the match. Finn Balor vs Damian Priest was a street fight. I saw Damian Priest live in a street fight against Jay White at an ROH show in Las Vegas many moons back. I haven’t seen that match in awhile but I remembered it involved thumbtacks. Balor and Priest have a not too pleasant history with each other and they wrestled like two guys who have a not too pleasant history with each other. They brawled in the crowd they used plunder there was a man in a suit awkwardly getting out of the shoot. The falcon arrow spot was pretty rad. I was gonna bitch about another ad break during a match but they come back to Balor on a stretcher so it’s justifiable in Kayfabe so I’m ok with that but to argue would have been more impactful if it was the only ad break during a match throughout the night. Match was really fun. Solid Main Event.

i enjoyed the show for the most part. Am I upset I wasn’t at the show? No would’ve have been cool to see Penta’s debut but that’s the only thing I’m upset I missed the main was cool but idk I’m not upset I wasn’t live for that.

Also if you haven’t seen Punishment Martinez vs Jay White from what I remember it’s a really good match.

wonder how many times they finish around 2 1/2 hours before people either get used to it or they float back to lots of 3hr finishes

the whole wrestling TV show format is sorta trapped in the Monday Night War and some change would be a good thing

I firmly believe due to HHH's intervention(s) that Del Rio probably did stuff to her that we'll never hear about (or want to). Unfortunately time has proven that it wasn't just a mistake of youth and that horrible dudes are apparently kinda her thing.

Trips has said that he thinks the sweet spot is somewhere between 2 and 3 hours, so I would assume that is where they'll end up most weeks. With Smackdown's third hour being a temporary thing, the days of weekly three hour shows might be going by the wayside.

So the only wrestling my dad catches is Monday Night Raw, mainly so that he has something to talk to me about (monday has been wrestling night since my childhood after all). Of all the wrestlers over the past decade or so, his favorites were Bray Wyatt and Braun Stroman likely because they remind him of different aspects of his all time favorite the Undertaker. He was bummed as hell when they both got fired, he was happy as hell when they were both re-signed if kinda annoyed they were on SD. Obviously very sad when Bray died.

Braun gets traded to Raw, immediately gets neck surgery and misses a year or so, is in and out with injuries before getting traded back to SD. When I told dad his response literally was "we still have the big guy with the red beard, right?" as Rowan was part of Bray's group, and having the Wyatts Sicks around was the closest to having him back around. Now they still have this poorly explained non-draft around and the second actual move after moving Braun to SD is moving the Wyatts there as well.

I just really want to know what WWE has against my dad and would like to ask them to please stop.

Saw the Penta entrance and post-match on YT.

It's been so long since I've seen him that I damn near forgot how charismatic he is. Jeeeezus.

WWE made him look like a bigger deal than AEW ever did. The production helps a lot, I'll give them that. But WWE is gonna sell the hell outta those masks. Can't believe AEW never went there.

Also, I'm getting a Penta mask as soon as I'm not totally broke.

Opening segment with Punk, Seth, and Drew was decent as an announcement for all three going for the Rumble and why. Still wish it was a pinch shorter.

Penta/Gable could have flowed a bit better, but overall I thought it was a good debut for Penta. The crowd was behind him completely, and he got in an impressive showcase while still putting over just how good Gable is. Will be interesting to see where Penta is slotted. Feels like he should be in IC/US area at minimum.

Sheamus/Kaiser was good as expected. Was happy to see Sheamus and Bron get into it a bit post match to set up the rematch. Hopefully their SNME match delivers.

Dakota/Lyra was good though I'm disappointed DK didn't walk away with the win. Still, it makes sense as Lyra has been gradually building momentum with the crowd the past year. Feels like its only just started for DK.

The Gunther/Jey segment was solid. Happy to see Jey challenge again though I do hope he surprises people with something new.

Sami/Miz was solid. Was neat to see Sami win with the Blue Thunder Bomb. Even Cole sounded pleasantly surprised by it.

The Rhea, Bayley, Nia segment was more fun than expected with Nia's trash talk. Didn't really feel like it served much purpose beyond giving the hometown hero a moment and showing off Rhea though maybe the end was a hint towards Baylet/Rhea for WM? Doesn't really feel like Rhea has much else for a big opponent sans Bianca and maybe Jade.

Priest/Finn was pretty damn fun. Loved the beginning and general use of crowd brawling and plunder. The second half with Finn doing the stretcher only for Prest to drag his ass back into the ring was good as well.

5 solid-good matches with some decent segments building up Royal Rumble and the next SNME in under 3 hours. Hopefully this is more the norm for Netflix era Raw. Unlike last time I also watched about an 30 mins. to an hour behind. It's interesting to see them cut off commercials that early in. Anyways good show overall.

Very true.

Listening to his LU and AEW themes, I don't think he's ever really had good entrance music. They should get RZA on the case.

Thought the opening interview was a perfectly fine way to get Punk, Drew, and Rollins all into the Royal Rumble. Great crowd reaction for Punk alluding to Cena.

I will say that Penta/Gable wasn't exactly the match I was expecting but I really enjoyed it. I honestly really appreciated how much Penta sold the leg throughout the match. Great presentation with Penta, crowd was super hot for him, look forward to where things go with him.

Sheamus and Kaiser basically can't have a bad match with each other and that continued tonight. Looking forward to Bron/Sheamus for the IC Title at SNME, do they finally let Sheamus take the title this time?

As a Dakota fan, I'm not sure what I'm hurt more by her not taking the belt or them replacing "Kombat" as her theme. Actually the most painful thing was that vertical suplex off the apron. The match felt a little short but both women looked really good and hopefully we get a rematch in the near future.

Gunther has gotten so much more comfortable on the mic and Jey is both incredibly over and also learning how to use that in a more serious way. Chances of Jey winning are slim and none but the crowd is going want him to win so badly that it should make for a great environment.

I laughed a little bit as they promoted Sami vs. Miz as happening before they actually showed the backstage segment. I do have to wonder if Final Testament gets ushered over to Smackdown to continue the Wyatt Sicks program. Sami won a match with the Blue Thunder Bomb, we truly are living in a new era.

Nia coming out to interrupt Rhea's promo was unexpected but Nia also gets the most heat from the crowd out of the entire women's roster. I was expecting an announcement that Bayley was transfer window'ing to Raw but I imagine no big names are going move before the Rumble. Gotta keep the idea of them potentially winning the Rumble and picking another brand's champion as their opponent. Certainly wouldn't hate Rhea/Bayley at WM.

As much as I hope that Priest can escape the Judgement Day orbit finally, the main event was fun. Liked the brawling through the crowd to setup the really great looking Broken Arrow through the tables. Was nice to see Damian go "Screw it" and attack Finn when he was on the stretcher. The match felt a little short but in a good way because they didn't unnecessarily drag the match out. Maybe give me a minute or two between Finn putting Damian through the table before he eat the Razor's Edge through the other table.

This felt much more like a normal episode of Raw than last week. I appreciate them not really feeling the need to go "shock and awe" with anything and instead just putting on a good show.

Enjoyable show overall, with only the forgettable Sami/Miz stuff bringing things down a bit.

I knew Lyra Valkyria was from Dublin, but a bit of googling during her match led to the pleasantly surprising news that she's from five minutes down the road from where I grew up in Dublin. Happy for her success!

My daughter (21) came home from work and watched Penta's match. When I took her to AEW, her two favorites were Penta and Danhausen.

She made an interesting comment that pro wrestling and comic books both have a high barrier to entry. I told her that as an announcer, my job is to explain everything for new fans, instead of assuming that everyone watches every week. When you think about it, every show is the first show for a percentage of the fans.

Night and Day between last week and this week.  Slightly let down that Lyra beat Dakota Kai, but I don't doubt that she'll get hers in the future.

One thing I've noticed is that while people complain about AEW being predictable in their winners in each match, WWE is exactly in the same spot.  No one thought Kaiser was winning, Balor was winning, Kai was winning, Gable was winning(this one is not egregious at all considering it was Penta's debut, just illustrating a point).

Jey is absolutely not beating Gunther, Punk was in no way losing to Rollins last week, Solo wasn't beating Roman.  The presentation, pomp and circumstance are there in droves, but the end results are never in question.

I'm biased and probably in the minority, but Drew is so far ahead of not only Rollins and Punk, but anyone in the WWE right now in my opinion.  As much as I think he carried Punk, that feud put him in a special category to me and over the past year, he's shown how invaluable he is.  I hope he gets a championship run sooner than later, just to reward the work hes put in and to say thank you for that fucking Clash at the Castle sing-a-long bullshit(yes, still one of the worst moments in recent WWE memory).

I'm going to say it, I've completely turned a corner on Nia Jax in the past 6 months.  Shell never be the crispest worker, but i love whenever she's on screen.

Echo the sentiment that Bayley/Rhea wouldn't be a bad idea at all.

All in all, probably the most I'v enjoyed Raw in a while.
