Have we reached the point yet that Sanders' people are asking teams NOT to draft him so he can pick his own team as a UDFA? I know players/agents have done that in past but couldn't remember if that is usually once they reach the 7th round those requests are sometimes made.

Shedeur is a Day 2 developmental prospect. But for developmental picks to pay off, they have to be coachable. When you spend the entire draft process loudly broadcasting that you’re not coachable, you shouldn’t be surprised when teams lower their valuation of you to a Day 3 “sure, we’ll buy in cheap and spin the wheel and see what happens” pick.

Compare this to Jalen Milroe, who—while far less ready to play as a rookie than Shedeur—has a reputation for being immensely coachable and a great locker room guy (and has the highest ceiling of any QB in this draft *if* it all comes together for him), and as a result probably went exactly when he should have.

OUR NATIONAL NIGHTMARE IS OVER

Browns picked Sanders

Honestly the Brownies played it perfectly: they did want him but correctly judged the market and got him with a late round pick.

Though I still don't get the Gabriel pick. He's older, has an extensive injury history, and his arm isn't nearly as strong as Sanders's, who had been getting dinged for only have a good not great arm.  Shough I can see the argument because he has a cannon arm and good athleticism, and Milroe is obviously physically off the charts even if he's a long way away. But Gabriel?!?

Anyway, there's now Mbow from Purdue who was a projected top fifty pick still on the board. Wonder if there's a story there.

Deshawn, Flacco, Pickett, Gabriel, Sanders. Well thank you for taking the mantle of weirdest QB room ever away from The Giants.

So you take Gabriel *and* Sanders why? Did you like Gabriel better? Did you not expect Sanders to last til 5 when you were comfortable taking him. Do you take Sanders only because you think someone will get hurt and be desperate for Sanders later? Trade bait?

I get gambling on Sanders. I don't get using two picks on QBs when you already have 3.

NFL GMs are probably a tad overvalued compared to the coaching/development, but in the case of Cleveland, I can buy the concept that a certain chunk of their problems involve really stupid people running the team

Maybe it secretly really is Kevin Costner.

The Browns picked Dillion Gabriel over him.  I'm going to need someone to explain this to me.

So they just solved the problem by drafting Shedeur, too. Which makes even less sense.

Seems his biggest transgression is he came of as very uncoachable and blamed his teammates when things went wrong rather than fall on the sword. You could think this situation could potentially humble him but he's the son of a hall of famer that had his college number retired after an okay college career. He's a little too used to getting his own way. Dad is probably the only coach he'd listen too

He was legitimately great at Colorado. That team was him,  Hunter and a bunch of dudes who aren't going to the NFL. He could be a dick,  but that's never stopped anyone from being drafted. The NFL has drafted dudes who have been straight up criminals. Johnny Manziel was a worse pro prospect and was a huge character risk and he went in the first round and even if the Browns didn't draft him someone else would have. There had to be more going on here.

I saw a tweet earlier that said something to the effect of,  "the Browns could have solved all of us a headache if they drafted Sanders in the 3rd and Gabriel in the 5th," and I can't find a hole in that logic.

Him and his brother laughing,  joking,  and staying positive through this is encouraging.

Don't forget they included a fifth round pick in the trade for Pickett. And traded two picks to move up for Sanders. Throw in everything they gave up for Watson, and that's an awful lot of draft capital spent building a QB room that doesn't look very good at all.

"Great" is a stretch. He was good last year, but he also was largely responsible for taking way too many sacks, holding the ball for an eternity (an average of 2.98 seconds per dropback), and while he throws a really good deep ball his intermediate game was pretty mediocre, and he's not athletic enough to escape elite pass rushers, which combined with that tendency to hold the ball too long is a real weakness.

That said, he looked a lot more like a second/third round grade guy, and these days most guys in that range end up going in the first because of that valuable fifth year option.

I don't know when you wrote this - but Mbow has since been drafted by the Giants

Giants beat reporters are saying "some teams had concerns about his medicals"

Seriously look at this Cleveland QB room.  Like a Madden 25 career mode while high as fuck

Deshaun Watson

Joe Flacco

Kenny Pickett

Dillon Gabriel

Shedeur Sanders

Doubt they could be worse. They really need to lay off the bath salts.

It seems clear (especially by his reaction when the pick was made) that Browns GM Matthew Berry was overruled by ownership

I mean are we sure a homeless person didn't recommend it like the legend of Johnny Manziel
