Curt McGirt Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Whoa, Richard Stanley even had good words to say. Quote Ave Val. In pace requiescat, compadre. You were my friend too, once upon a time. I saw you at your finest as well as your worst. I saw the light in you as well as the darkness. I would not have cast you otherwise. I saw the potential for greatness in you. It came off you like steam. I saw it radiating about you like a veritable halo of potentiality the day our paths first crossed on the set of 'HEAT' (1995) and later at the Tokyo premiere of 'BATMAN FOREVER', that weird, tricky light that only true stars possess. It was all around you then. You walked the walk and seemed to breathe a different air from the rest of us, mere mortals who followed in your train. Perhaps we met at the very moment your star burned brightest, before the dark days on the island began its slow occultation. Perhaps like Icarus we flew too close to the light, compelled as we were to push it to the max and if we fell, we did so on our own terms and learned what needed learning. At least we parted on good terms. That hug meant something, even if it was too late to save the island. My only regret is we cannot turn back the blessed clock and get it right next time. In another life, perhaps. Until then, go in peace, brother. A candle burns for you this night in the French Pyrenees – RS x
(BP) Posted April 3 Posted April 3 (edited) Kilmer’s impression of Brando towards the end of Moreau is probably the highlight of the movie. That and the little goblin guy that Mike Myers based Mini Me on. Edited April 3 by (BP) 1

I hope EVERYONE would watch that; it's crazy, in many ways

I’m aware of a lot of the set stories like Stanley spying on the production after he was fired and Brando trying to rewrite it so Moreau is part whale and has a blowhole.
Curt McGirt Posted April 7 Posted April 7 https://tubitv.com/movies/537473/lost-soul-the-doomed-journey-of-richard-stanley-s-island-of-dr-moreau Go for it. It rules. And it's fucking crazy. 1 1

Cobra Commander Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Ruth Buzzi passed away at 88, which might be a bit of a test of which generation you're from if you know her more for Rowan & Martin, Sesame Street, being Screech's Mom on Saved By The Bell or something else 2
driver Posted May 3 Posted May 3 She was a handsome woman and funny AF. I've seen her in a few things, but it was her appearance with Dom Deluise in Lotsa Luck(where she was cheesin' like a MF) where I affirmed my opinion that she is both funny and sexy. 1
RIPPA Posted May 5 Author Posted May 5 I was shocked Ruth Buzzi was still alive because I legit thought everyone from the Dean Martin Roast era had passed away Like Rich Little is the only regular who I can think of who is still with us
RIPPA Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 Director James Foley - probably best known for directing Glenngary Glen Ross - passed away earlier this week at the age of 71 (he had brain cancer) Foley directed things like the 1996 version of Fear, At Close Range and, weirdly, the 2nd and 3rd movies in the 50 Shades trilogy And for those of us older than dirt - he also directed a bunch of Madonna videos

Outside episodes of House of Cards, I don't remember him directing much stuff right between his most notable works and 50 Shades.
driver Posted May 9 Posted May 9 If the Madonna videos were during the time she was married to Sean Penn it makes sense.
Curt McGirt Posted May 9 Posted May 9 RIP Greg Cannom https://www.fangoria.com/greg-cannom-dead-at-74/ Man that's a murderer's row of movies. Four Oscars, too.

driver Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Definitely the same era. He didn't happen to direct "Shanghai Surprise" did he?
odessasteps Posted May 10 Posted May 10 12 minutes ago, driver said: Definitely the same era. He didn't happen to direct "Shanghai Surprise" did he? Jim Goddard, who directed A LOT of UK TV and I don’t think many movies, quickly looking at his IMDB.
