Kevin Wilson Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Firing your GM only after realizing no coach wanted to work with him is pretty funny. 1

Tom Brady has given Josh a lot of credit for the development in his career. Mac Jones rookie year was fairly solid with McDaniels as OC, then went to shit when the Raiders backed up the Brinks truck for Josh. I think he's going to be a very good asset in Drake Maye's development as well. No, I agree. He might very well be offensive Wade Phillips. But he's still had a very funny career. 1
BobbyWhioux Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Ah yes, Trent Baalke, architect of the Dark Ages of 49er Football, surprised even the Jags tolerated him this long (still long enough to wreck Trevor Lawrence, unfortunately) if you like your punter being Team MVP then he’s your guy

Good to great DCs but bad head coaches are guys like (IMO), Marion Campbell, Bud Carson, Dick LeBeau, and Steve Spagnuolo.
RIPPA Posted January 23 Author Posted January 23 Per multiple reports - the Cowboys will be hiring Brian Schottenheimer as HC by the end of the day 1 3

BloodyChamp Posted January 23 Posted January 23 There are good coaches with bad records just like there are good players with bad records and even stats sometimes. With that said coaches now can be judged more accurately because they all have the resources now that other coaches didn’t necessarily have in other eras.

Coen has apparently ghosted the Bucs and is back in Jacksonville trying to get the HC gig

I can't think of a single good coach with a bad record. For the most part, the difference between good and bad coaches is the ability to either coach players up so they improve or build a scheme that makes the best out of his talent. I'd argue there are more bad coaches with good records than good coaches with bad records.
Cobra Commander Posted January 24 Posted January 24 does Liam Coen bail on the Jags to coach at Kentucky next year? 1
Gonzo Posted January 24 Posted January 24 The Athletic is reporting that Coen has, indeed, told the Buccaneers that he'll be taking the Jaguars job. https://twitter.com/jeffphowe/status/1882633299790811375
BloodyChamp Posted January 24 Posted January 24 (edited) There are a few. John McKay, Ted Marchibroda, and a few guys with winning but not great records like Wade and his pop. The coach isn’t always the problem. Even now when they have more resources than before there are still times when something out of their control just destroys everything. Dolfan in NYC Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Las Vegas has hired Pete Carroll as their new head coach. 3 year deal, with a team option for a 4th. 1

hammerva Posted January 24 Posted January 24 You know things are weird when the youngest coach in the AFC West is 60 years old. At least for that division it is not a young man's game
Travis Sheldon Posted January 24 Posted January 24 On Carroll and the Raiders, I'm not overjoyed about the hire, but he's a proven veteran coach who won't be learning on the job. And hopefully he will be able to stick around longer than one season to provide a semblance of stability. I'm trying to look for a silver lining here. Hell, I'd settle for a cubic zirconia lining at this point. 1
