If I was the NFLPA I'd agree to 18 games under the following conditions:

  • A team can't play more than two games in a 13 day period (or whatever wording would prevent what happened to teams around the Christmas games)
  • An extra bye week
  • Expanded rosters

Adding a game to make it 18 is inevitable but the players can still try to get something out of it to ease the wear and tear, plus having expanded rosters (say, add five players) will get more players NFL paychecks which would be a positive for them.

I still maintain the NFL could extend the season and get an extra week of TV money just by adding a second bye.

20 week season, 18 games with two byes for all. After week five, all Thursday night games must involve teams coming off the bye week. All teams playing Thanksgiving or Black Friday get a bye the week before. Extra week of television for networks, and you can get rid of another exhibition game.

Brett Favre and Dan Marino have more cases for demanding records back than anybody already. 6000 YDs passing season incoming.

Both the current single season yardage and touchdown records were set in 16 game seasons. Peyton Manning broke Farve's career records years before the seventeen game season started. Brady and Brees both played the vast majority of their careers in the sixteen game season.

What record could probably revert to them?

More and more there is less and less separating Goodell from Manfred for dumbest fucking league commissioner.

Bettman's gonna have to come up with something phenomenally stupid to regain a title that once looked impossible for him to lose.

All the ones that they earned in this era talking Marino. I threw Favre in because of the FB post that made the rounds today, and was sorta joking about Gastineau. Favre is going to be pushed out of the top 10 career records of everything but INTs, fumbles and sacks before long and by extension the top 10 altime greatest lists which is a shame IMO Mississippi volleyball stuff aside.

Surely there's a tiny cable network with reach of 7m households that he could sign over the national TV contract to for 59 cents a year.

Per Schefter - both the Bears and and unknown team contacted the Steelers about trading for Mike Tomlin.

Pittsburgh rebuffed both teams and it turns out that Tomlin has a no trade clause anyway

2 week pre season, 2 games. 20 week regular season, 18 games & 2 bye weeks. That seems like the sweet spot.

There's 2 extra weeks of regular season tv revenue, menaing a higher salary cap and more money for all. There would be expanded rosters from 53 to 58. Which means 160 more players making a living on active rosters. Also 2 bye weeks so you get a little more rest than the current format.

I don't see a negative here. Sure it's an extra game of wear and tear. But you get an extra week off to off-set that. Fans happy. Players happy. Owners happy. TV networks happy. Let's do it.

If everybody’s happy then by all means. Especially the players. But is that really the case? We already have a 3 hour Monday Nitro vibe. No need to add Thunder IMO. I know it sounds like apples and oranges but at some point it will become counterintuitive just like WCW expansion did.

I don't think you can compare the NFL to scripted entertainment. WCW's downfall and over saturation would have all been moot if the creative was there. WWE has sustained 5 hours of weekly first run live programming for over 20 years now. So over saturation wasnt the issue.

Football isn't reliant on creative to keep people interested. The enjoyment comes from rooting your team on and watching actual competition. The enjoyment is always going to be there.

It’s closer than we think IMO. We got lucky with the Vikings and Lions this year. Last year was Gardner Minshew who I personally think is a national treasure of a person but that’s not what this is about, throwing a 2 YD pass and missing it to end the season in 1 of the most boring dumb ends to a season ever. The year before that is easy to brush off now in hindsight but there were people saying the Lions weren’t even going to try against the Packers. The Thursday games, the Europe games, the division games not mattering etc I just don’t like it.

NFL has also done "better" (I realize there is a big luck factor) at having new popular stars to replace the ones leaving, which the NBA has struggled to do. When Brady/Brees/Rodgers (soon) retired if no other great players/popular players emerged maybe they would have struggled maintaining such dominating ratings (maybe not). Getting the ratings they do require people to watch beyond the team's fans, they have to have general appeal. But with Mahomes/Allen/Jackson the next wave is just as popular and putting on great games. Too early to tell what the next wave will be but surely plenty of protentional in the "under 26" crowd too. As long as the NFL keeps churning out exciting players that general fans of football want to see, people will keep watching.

That doesn't mean I think we need year-round NFL but I don't think 18 games is excessive. And I do think players need to put their foot down about how many games in a two week period/how to schedule international games so its as fair as possible.

Can the league fine announcers lol because if they can Joe and Troy are getting one for to much real talk

I think the only one they can is Brady.

Chicago Bears are now the only NFC North team undefeated in 2025.

Yes, I'm petty.

As if the Bears coaching process wasn't weird enough, according to Jay Glazer they interviewed Eddie George 🥴

nice to see them comply with the Rooney Rule before they pick their guy in a few days

To be fair, they desperately want Freeman.

They are not getting Freeman.

Looks like Bears aren't waiting on Freeman being free to interview, reportedly hiring Ben Johnson
