Thankfully, the Eagles' run is over.

I know there's the curse and all, but that's a cool-ass cover.

Interesting that he waited until after the draft, a la Barry.

Sounds like he was having a really difficult time deciding if he wanted to/physically could play another year.

But, yeah, the timing blows.

Yeah, I just read his statement and it's looking like he just legit waited to see if he could physically do it and decided he couldn't. The Lions at least have a guy they drafted that can play center (Tate Ratledge, though he was a guard in college). Big loss for the Lions and terrible timing but I can't really blame Frank. He's had some major injuries during his short career and he's likely to be forever impacted by them.

Is Jim Marshall the best player NOT in the Hall of Fame who has had the opportunity to get in?  Yes I know Brady and others but Marshall has probably had 3 decades of chances and not in.  And given the HOF fondness for newer guys instead of the vets, it isn't likely he is getting in

Again - it’s very subjective

I mean for me the answer is Roger Craig

But just thinking defensively- I mean Lester Hayes isn’t in either

There are plenty of running backs who were better than plenty of guys in the hall of fame, but their body's broke down before they got to 10K yards.  Guys like Shaun Alexander, Priest Holmes, and Chris Johnson were as good as most of the hall of fame running backs at their peak, but they'll never get in.

Btw, Pittsburgh had been talking to Miami about Jonnu Smith, this morning they leaked to Schefter that they were out.

BUT THEN.... TE Donald Parham Jr. was done for the year with a torn Achilles he suffered during OTA's.

And then of course, yeah, they're talking again.  Guessing they balked at Miami's price and now got their hand forced.  We'll see what becomes of this.

I mean, I don't want to help the Steelers in any way, but they do realize that it doesn't matter who the tight end is, when you don't have a starting quarterback on the roster.

...and the ayahuasca-filled shoe drops.

Bleacher Reports says Aaron Rodgers has informed Pittsburgh of his intention to sign a one year deal before next week's minicamp.

Gonna be fun to watch Mike Tomlin's expressions this year.

This is finally the season where the myth that Tomlin has control over his players and they fall in line ends.  Rodgers doesn't give two fucks about anyone but himself.  I mean. Tomlin can't control 80% of his receivers in the last 5 years and he is going have HIM tow the line

Should be noted, Pittsburgh plays the entire NFC North, including a road game in Chicago.

ALSO!   The Steelers open the season at the New York Football Jets!  (Which also adds a Justin Fields revenge angle too!)

29000 passing yards - no way.

That's extremely low, but I honestly think the worst way to evaluate a quarterback is yards.  Kerry Collins has more yards than Joe Montana, but bad quarterbacks can rack up yards playing on teams that are always behind.  For instance, Steve DeBerg has more yards than Steve Young, but DeBerg won 38% of his games and Young won 65% of his games.  I know wins isn't a quarterback stat, but the entire population of Earth would rather have Young than DeBerg.  It's also why I think people are crazy for thinking that Matthew Stafford should go into the Hall of Fame, he's up there with Carson Palmer, Vinny Testaverde, and Joe Flacco.  Just because you have stats comparable to Hall of Fame players, does not mean you are a Hall of Fame Player.

Randall Cunningham is not a Hall of Famer, but when he was good he was better than a lot of dudes in the Hall of Fame.  He's up there with Kurt Warner (only about 3,000 yards difference between the two) for guys who can elevate a great supporting cast, but he cannot elevate a bad supporting cast.  He's the quarterback equivalent to Phil Jackson, he's at his best with the best. If you switched Troy Aikman and Randall Cunningham as rookies (I know the dates don't match) Cunningham would be in the Hall of Fame and Aikman would have taken over for Pat Summerall in 1995.
