Kevin Wilson Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Rules stuff is rolling in now. So far two changes of note have passed: - The football now moves to the 35 after a touchback since the NFL is still annoyed at the number of touchbacks - In the regular season both teams will get possession of the ball in OT, but OT is still ten minutes so they didn't change that part.
RIPPA Posted April 1 Author Posted April 1 The Tush Push vote has been tabled so a vote on it will not take place at this owners meeting (Reportedly "only" 16 owners were in favor of banning it - you need 24 yes) The other issues OT will now ensure both teams get the ball. HOWEVER, the proposal was modified and OT will remain only 10 minutes (the proposal was to match the playoffs which is 15 minutes) Replay assist has been expanded to able to intervene on more types of penalties Expanded Kickoff proposal was split into two votes - the ball will now be spotted on the 35 on touchbacks. The part about changing onside kicks was tabled Detroit’s proposal to eliminate an automatic first down as a penalty imposed for defensive holding and illegal contact did not pass
RIPPA Posted April 1 Author Posted April 1 There will be three Christmas games this season All three will be on stream platforms The first two will be streamed via Netflix The last game of the day will be on Amazon
stuntmanc Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Banning the tush push is trying to punish Philly for being better at something than everyone else. That said, I won't shed any years if its banned. McDermott being one of the loudest on banning it is absolutely hilarious though.

Sucks that no games will be available OTA. 1
Kevin Wilson Posted April 1 Posted April 1 I had to laugh at the touchback change as they keep doing things to get teams to kick less touchbacks and it just isn't working. So I'm curious if this change is enough to finally get teams to stop kicking touchbacks or if they'd still rather have the opponent start on the 35 than risk a long return.
Tabe Posted April 1 Posted April 1 If you want fewer touchbacks, make the kick out of the back of the end zone a penalty. It's technically out of bounds so should get penalized like a sideline kick. 1
Brian Fowler Posted April 1 Posted April 1 I think the idea is to discourage returning teams from running kicks back, not try to eliminate touchbacks. At least that was certainly the goal a few years ago when they started changing the rules. More concussions happened on the old style kick off plays than any other type of play. 1

Just make it 15 minute periods for both regular season & post season. Obviously the periods continue until a winner in the posts season. But why not just make it uniform? Its 5 minutes of game time more. Just a weird hill for the league to die on.

The networks have to stick with the games in the 1PM window until the bitter end, the 15 minute OT's were bleeding way too deep into the 4:25pm games, it was becoming pretty common for 15 minute OT's to keep large segments of the country from seeing the 1st quarter of the marquee Sunday afternoon games. Similarly with not wanting 4:25 OT games to push back the start of Primetime or night games going past midnight. That last 5 minutes could take up to 15 minutes of actual time when you include things like timeouts and reviews. 1
RIPPA Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 HOT STOVE~! whoops... wrong sport but TRADE ALERT The Patriots are sending Joe Milton and a 7th round pick to Dallas for a compensatory 5th round pick
RIPPA Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 The rules have been changed for which teams can't be forced to do Hard Knocks Basically they eliminated the exemption that if you made the playoffs in the previous two seasons, you couldn't be forced So now you can't be forced if you meet one of the following New Head Coach Featured in that season's in season Hard Knocks Participated in the previous Hard Knock Training Camp in the last 8 seasons (so for this year that would be between 2017-2024) Draft Kings figured it out and that means the following teams are "eligible" Quote ARI, ATL, BAL, BUF, CAR, CIN, DEN, GB, HOU, KC, IND, MIA, MIN, NYG, PHI, PIT, SF, SEA, TEN, WSH Though that list is wrong since the AFC North teams should be exempt since they did the in season one last year And most likely the Giants are exempt since the Offseason one went so badly they can't do another season
Dolfan in NYC Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Buffalo would be extremely interesting. Closing SB window, cap hell coming very soon, their Taliban-loving head coach...

Kevin Wilson Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Apparently its "only" a two-year, $75 million extension with the other 10.5 being incentives. Don't think they've announced the incentives so not sure if its "go to voluntary workouts" or "win MVP" to get the money (or a combination of both).
Kevin Wilson Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Trey McBride signed a four-year extension worth $76 million ($43 million guaranteed) with the Cardinals, making him the highest paid TE by a nice margin. This was the first offseason he was eligible for an extension so obviously the Cards wanted to get him locked up ASAP.
RIPPA Posted April 4 Author Posted April 4 Julio Jones announced his retirement Trey Lance signed a one year deal with the Chargers
Dolfan in NYC Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Terron Armstead has called it a career. So, yeah, the Dolphins really, really need a bunch of new O linemen.

NoFistsJustFlips Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Looking more and more like The Giants will end up with Abdul Carter if they stay at 3. I really want Sheduer. But I get using the number 3 pick on someone graded where he is defies current draft logic. Better mentally prepare now for a season with Big Russ as my QB1.

It seems like everyone's settled on Cam going to Tennessee... after that... I've seen Cleveland drafting Hunter, Sanders, and Carter. I've seen New York with those three also, or Mason Graham... or trading down. I've also seen an absolutely crazy one where Sherdur ends up at 21 and falls into Pittsburgh's hands. (Which at that point is a massive, massive red flag about what Deion's involvement is gonna be.)
RIPPA Posted April 9 Author Posted April 9 Most mocks that have Sanders lasting past the Giants having him going to the Saints (which is like 10 or 11 - I am too lazy to look)

Just imagine by week 4 Deion's gonna be politicking himself into getting Tomlin fired and taking over. It will be amazing.
RIPPA Posted April 9 Author Posted April 9 I just don't want him on the Giants I kinda wanted him to go to the Raiders but they had to be sensible at acquire Geno Smith
