There's literally only 6 players ever that have been Super Bowl MVP more than once. And he's one of them. (Maholmes, Montana, Brady, Eli, Terry Bradshaw, Bart Star)...
You have to factor in the totality of his high end output even if the numbers alone don't scream best of the best.

Outside of the two magical runs Eli's numbers scream pedestrian.  None of the others in that list have .500 career regular season records.

If/when Eli gets in it will be almost entirely down to the two Super Bowl runs and maybe slightly because his surname's Manning.

how the fuck did Vinatieri not get in first ballot?

Should be a HoF career just from the Patriots run.. then he went and did like another DECADE with the Colts.

This year in some ways felt like a make-up year (getting others in that deserved it or had been on the fence for awhile) since the "1st year" options weren't super obvious selections. Next year has Drew Brees, Larry Fitzgerald, Jason Witten, Frank Gore, and Philip Rivers as eligible. Not saying all five will get in (they won't) but with a five max per year its going to be tougher for any of the "almosts" this year to get in next year.

I do think Manning, Kuechly, and Vinatieri will get in sometime in the next three years. Maybe one or two next year as I think they make Gore and Rivers wait a bit as both have the stats but don't scream first year due to a lack of SB wins and MVPs.

It’s the 2nd biggest football upset ever. The biggest to casuals, and the biggest in all of sports ever to some casuals. He gets in for that reason and I don’t know why the other stuff is even discussed. The other quarterback in this conversation is in the HoF for the same reason.

Vinateri isn’t in because they have to protect Brady from that old meme. Not really I know…but NFL Memes will definitely run with it.

I did pick the Giants to beat the Patriots in that Super Bowl because so few people in my college residence hall were picking the Giants and I figured if they won, I'd have a better chance at getting a prize

FWIW, Namath has quite a bit more individual accolades than Eli does. Including an All-Pro selection, and an AFL MVP.

And he was in an episode of the A-Team which is the real high watermark.

The Steelers will host an International Game at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland, it'll be the first regular season game on the Emerald Isle.

This makes sense, as the Irish have been big fans of the Steelers since the days of Frank O'Harris.

Niners have granted Deebo and his agent permission to find a trade partner (Deebo requested to be traded during the team exit interviews)

Though it's not set in stone and "negotiations are ongoing", it looks like the Jets will be moving on from the Aaron Rodgers show.

Vinatieri must be the last NFL Europe alumni to become eligible 😞

And Heidi, but if we’re going to split hairs then Eli had possibly the best escape play in a SB.

That's a fun thought. Kinda like Sam Mills a few years ago being probably the last USFL (original version) alumnus to make the Hall.

Hope people in Dallas are still buckled in because apparently the Cowboys are working on a Micha Parsons tade

I mean, Jerry all but confirmed in an interview recently that he hates Dak. Which makes me think everyone on that team is on the block.

Dante Hall is probably the only other candidate from NFL Europe - not saying he is a HOF but he and Vinateri are probably the last ones because Brian Moorman sure ain't making it and Vinateri and Hall at least made the NFL all decade team

James Harrison of the Rhein Fire, and latterly the Pittsburgh Steelers, is a bubbler as well.  I do think that's it though as then you get in to the Jake Delhomme tier of the NFL Europe to NFL highway.

The NY Football G-men are hiring Chad Hall to be their Assistant QB Coach.  He most recently served as the Jags WR Coach.

Also notable... he's married to the sister of Matt Stafford.

Stanford has a stupid contract that needs to be reworked (I think his cap hit at the moment is $50 million) just so anyone can have him on the roster next season (Rams or otherwise)

So yeah - the perfect move for a desperate GM/HC who don’t care about the future

I don’t know why I said though 87 times wtf.

Another thing that doesn’t get repeated enough is a certain product of the new era(s). I still say the new era altogether isn’t discussed enough with that stat inflation and the etc etc etc but the 1 thing in GOAT discussions is that the GOAT being discussed is often the slowest, weakest, most fragile player out there. I mean that just doesn’t make any sense. Brady could atleast escape this by saying Drew -we have a backup who can come in and run plays that I can’t- Brees played as long as he did, which didn’t ever make him the slowest one out there. Lookey there another break for Brady. If anybody gets more than Mahomes it’s him.
