I plumped for the deluxe version, and curious to see how it plays in MP I'm not going to get relelase, I'll wait a bit for bugs to get worked out, but I'm looking forward to it. Big trick is going to be making sure I get it before the DLC's start dropping

twiztor Posted January 25 Posted January 25 A friend got me hooked on this game Vampire Survivors due to the Castlevania DLC they put out a couple months ago. I was uncertain about the game at first- it's pretty repetitive and seemed to have the depth of a mobile game. But it sunk its teeth into me and i was turned! The deeper i got, the deeper i wanted to go. This game is difficult to classify into a genre. It's very similar to the old arcade/NES game "Smash TV", where it's a multidirectional shooter. But it has similarities to genres such as 'run 'n' gun" and 'bullet hell'. basically, there's an endless swarm of enemies coming at you constantly, and you're attempting to outlive the 30 minute timer. Sounds simple, but there's different weapons, and upgrades, and secondary objectives. Like i said, the more i played, the more i wanted to explore and get just a LITTLE bit further. Anyway, i finally finished up the Castlevania DLC this morning. Has a great tweak on the classic Castlevania final confrontation. A LOT of fun. And it opened up a whole slew of new unlockables, so i'll probably have to dive back in before too long. Plus, i already purchased the Contra DLC for even more classic Konami vibes. The best part of this game is that it's super cheap. i think a download is just $5. If you haven't played this, it gets my recommendation!

Maybe I'll look at it in five or six years after the DLC packages come out and the price goes down.
RIPPA Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 Finished Tiny Tina (which makes 3 games in a month for me which is rare) Trying to decide if I wanna relearn the controls to God of War or figure out what else is in my pile of shame
Ramo2653 Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Has anyone else played Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance? I'm not liking the Spirt system to gain abilities. And the drop system is annoying and it was apparently reduced for the console version so I probably would have raged played it on PSP.

I tried to, but it's just too weird for me, too cutesy, too something. I want a normal KH game (yes, yes, I know), not this gotta catch em and breed em all thing. 1
Ramo2653 Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Yeah, I'm of the same mind. I'll probably drop it since I know the story for the game at this point and play 0.2 and debate getting into 3 again or playing something else first. 1
Death From Above Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I tried Hearts of Iron IV since it's on sale and honestly it might be the most boring video game I've ever played. Like, the combat sucks balls in Crusader Kings and Stellaris too, but there's a bunch of events and fluff that give those games colour and keep them engaging on some level. Hearts of Iron IV is literally just Paradox junk combat with all the knobs turned up to 11, about a dozen uneccessary menus that could be merged down into a much better UX, all the fun flavour removed, and the most glacial start of any game they've ever done. I am honestly beyond baffled how this is their best reviewed current game. It's shit.

So I'm replaying Final Fantasy XII (again) in the hopes that this time I'll actually get to the end it instead of getting bored/frustrated after 70+ hours. Some of the high level hunts still elude me, and never actually got the OP spear. Rolled credits after 55ish hours. Might New Game + to try to get some of those late game hunts, but I'm done for now. Looking at the Pixel Remasters, and I've got a save in FF II right above the last dungeon that I could probably finish in an afternoon. IV and VI will have to be restarted with a guide, I missed way too many things. Of course, I still have saves unfinished in most of the Kingdom Hearts stuff, too.
cwoy2j Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Started another playthrough of Bannerlord 2 with the Khuzaits. They're so OP it's ridiculous. All I had to do was load up on Khan's Guards, some Empire Elite Cataphracts, Sturgian Linebreakers, get a companion with high engineering and jack up my smithing stats to bankroll everything and taking over the world has been a piece of cake. Khan's Guard basically wipe out everybody on the field and the Sturgian Heroic Linebreakers are the best for taking over castles and towns.

Casey Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I might be the only one that cares, but Atari announced a physical edition (and a deluxe edition with extra stuff!) for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind. Only for PS5 and Switch, though.
JLSigman Posted January 29 Posted January 29 BioWare just fired most of it's studio, including most everyone who worked on Veilguard. https://blog.bioware.com/2025/01/29/bioware-studio-update/ 1
JLSigman Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Grinding Gears Games says Path of Exile 1 is not getting anything done on it for a while, since PoE 2 has turned into such a shitshow. https://steamcommunity.com/games/238960/announcements/detail/498312073043771525

I hope all of them find good, new homes. Such is the industry. 1
Raziel Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Eternal Strands launched yesterday, it's on GamePass. The trailers look like Shadow of Colossus with more bells and whistles. I played the tutorial so far and it's decent. Will probably get deeper into it later.
Craig H Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Oh shit. It actually launched? Well I know what I'm playing in my flu haze.

This isn't Neverwinter Nights/Baldur's Gate BioWare or KotOR/Jade Empire/ME BioWare unfortunately. This is Dragon Age/Anthem/Andromeda BioWare. I'm frankly surprised that EA hasn't taken them out back and put a bullet in their heads before dumping them into the same shallow grave that my poor, poor Westwood is buried in. I am hopeful that a lot of those BioWare devs, now out from under EA's oversight, can get some funding for their own projects. I tend to think that game failures are usually due to producer's oversight/developer's leadership being poor and not the inadequate collective talent and creativity of the general developers.
Chaos Posted January 30 Posted January 30 This is happening, and I may be dumb enough to double dip on it since I'm rocking a Series S on the Xbox side. https://forza.net/news/forza-horizon-5-comes-to-ps5
JLSigman Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Fired up Diablo 3 to do the usual post-season stash clean-up, and saw that they were running "Darkening of Tristram", their Diablo homage. I vaguely remember doing it once years ago, but couldn't remember anything about it, so decided to give it a spin. They. Literally change the resolution of the screen and pixelize it. The UI changes to the old version. You even get Matt Uelmen's original soundtrack! I am pretty damn sure that is not what I saw when I played it a decade(?) ago, but I was so tickled I ran through the whole thing. Might even have to reinstall the remastered version.

twiztor Posted February 1 Posted February 1 it took some work, but i can finally play Diablo 2 on my PC again. i started typing a much longer post, but realized that it doesn't matter. Long story short, i had to upgrade PCs last year for Diablo4. New PC sucked ass. Had to upgrade AGAIN, but this one didn't have a disc drive. ~5 workarounds later, and i just spend 6 hours playing my D2 save file that i've had since 2000. feels so good. D2 > D3 > D1 > D4. fuck you Diablo 4. 1
Zimbra Posted February 1 Posted February 1 I still haven't even beat the campaign in Diablo 4 it's just so boring. 2
