NoFistsJustFlips Posted July 22, 2025 Author Posted July 22, 2025 (edited) Episode 3 thoughts... Spoiler It's strange how much this show feels like the original Dexter series. Way more so than New Blood. I think it might be Harry. I get what they were going for (and liked it) with the Deb ghost for New Blood, but the Harry dynamic is just so much better. I fee like the eccentric detective is a bit heavy handed. I'll be okay with her figuring everything out exactly beat for beat, if she now drops it all after buying Harrison's alibi. It's like if she just would have trusted her instincts she would have it all solved. But because she feels sorry for Harrison and lets it go, she never knows how close she truly was. If that's not how it plays out, then yeah a bit annoying how on the nose it all is. I could sense even in the trailer The Dark Passenger was gonna get got early and Dexter would pose as him. Because there's no way the Dinklage character would know about The Bay Harbor Butcher stuff. So he had to be impersonating another killer to get the invite. Loved seeing Quinn & Masuka. Like that it doesn't feel like there's much time churning or filler. They are progressing the story quickly. I guess the only part I'm scratching my head at, at this point, is Dexter not wanting to let Harrison know he's alive. I don't think Harrison will have that averse reaction. I think he's going to be relieved he can take that killing off his conscious, and have someone to confide in and help him out of this situation. All in all another excellent episode. Once we get into the meat of the suicide squad of serial killers I wonder how different that will make the season feel. So far so good tho. And I mean so so good. Glad to have this back. HumanChessgame Posted July 24, 2025 Posted July 24, 2025 Maybe it's because my expectations were in the commode after the last few seasons of the original show, but these two new seasons and the prequel are in better than they have any right to be territory. 1
NoFistsJustFlips Posted July 24, 2025 Author Posted July 24, 2025 After the first 4 seasons of the original the first show runner Clyde Phillipd left. Without him it kind of became a content churn where logic and long term plotting went out the window. For New Blood, Resurrection, & Original Sin he's back. And I think that's the secret sauce as to why the shows are better. He also just straight up ignores the stuff from season 5-8 he hated. Like Dr Vogel.
Craig H Posted July 25, 2025 Posted July 25, 2025 Dudes, I keep saying this is fun, but holy shit is this so much fun. That opening scene with Dexter in Red's apartment was the most glee and fun I've ever seen from Dexter and his dad. I had no idea the original showrunner was back, which explains the difference in quality. This is so tight and entertaining. If there's one thing I don't really care for it's the stuff with Batista and Harrison mainly because I don't want Dexter to get caught and I don't want Batista to die. Some things that had me wondering...Was Krysten Ritter's character going to kill Dexter in the shower? Will Peter Dinklage be giving kill assignments and will one of them being a hotel attendant? Was NPH wearing a wig? That had to have been a wig, right? 1
NoFistsJustFlips Posted July 26, 2025 Author Posted July 26, 2025 Episode 4 thoughts... Spoiler I'm happy to see others enjoyed this episode as much as I did. In the moment it felt up near the tippy top of the best episodes of the whole franchise. I loved the serial killer vault. His collection was massive too. The way all the killers interacted was fun. Man this isnt the same Batista anymore. When he let Harrison think Dexter was dead still, that sealed it for me. Dick move to try and coerce Harrison into giving you what you want. The investigation is definitely starting to heat up and there's so much tension. That Lowell kill is probably my favorite kill since Trinity. The conversation wasn't super long, but the reveal that Dexter was the BHB and Lowell actually registering that and freaking it, gasping trying to ask questions and showing him in shock even after being stabbed in the heart. Just so well done. I liked New Blood. But this is blowing it out if he water. Its nearing that season 1 - 4 level if it keeps up the quality. Can't wait to see the Harrison & Dexter conversation now that Dexter has confronted him. This show is just great TV. Seriously, if you enjoyed Dexter when it was good, give this a watch. It's probably the best season since the peak of seasons 1-4.
NoFistsJustFlips Posted July 26, 2025 Author Posted July 26, 2025 Theory that's going around about Prater... Spoiler There's a theory going around the reviewers that I just don't buy into. Maybe I'm wrong. But it seems like the consensus is that Prater is such a serial killer scholar he knows what Dexter looks like from the Trinity & BHB case files. They seem to think he'd know Rita was Trinity's last kill and who her husband was and how that stuck out as odd. And that he's playing some sort of game with Dexter, knowing exactly who he is. I find that hard to believe. Even if Prater knew of Dexter from the files, that man is dead. And just recently found to be not dead. And that hasn't been reported anywhere official. So even if he thinks "Red" looks like Dexter Morgan, he would assume it's just a coincidence since Dexter Morgan is dead. I guess we'll see. But just seems like a leap to me. We'll see how it goes but the spoilered theory above, I just don't buy into.
NoFistsJustFlips Posted August 3, 2025 Author Posted August 3, 2025 Episode 5 thoughts... Spoiler This season continues to be the best since season 4 with Trinity. I do think the watch deal was both clever but also going to lead to Dexter's downfall. Sure it tied everything up in a nice little bow. But could he not envision a few steps down the road where Mia is questioned about Ryan Foster? Like obviously the lady detective is going to want to question her regarding it. Which will lead to her maybe show a picture of Harrison. That doesn't ring any bells. What about his father Dexter. Wait that's not Ronald Schmit?? That's surely going to happen from either Claudette, Batista, or Charlie right? And lead to Charlie & Prater catching on, and lead to Claudette & Batista catching on. I was pretty surprised at the reveal that Mia's code was all bullshit. That was a good story beat. It deflated the audience probably just as much as the character Dexter. Good writing there I think. Dexter opening up and finally revealing he was the reason Rita got murdered to Harrison was well done too. That's one of the things that annoyed me to no end when Deb found out. There's so many questions she should have. But us as the audience never saw those conversations because the weaker writing teams near the end would rather just avoid all of that. But that's what we want to see. We want those conversations. We want Dexter reflecting on it and seeing how the characters around him react to it. Like Deb not asking if Dexter killed Doakes is a gigantic plot hole to me. Her being okay with her brother murdering an innocent collogue was so out of character for her. We know it wasn't him, but she doesn't. Hopefully they keep up the momentum and stick the landing. This has been a fun season.
NoFistsJustFlips Posted August 14, 2025 Author Posted August 14, 2025 Episode 6 thoughts... Spoiler A little slower episode this week. Mia getting got in prison was expected. Now they'll need to find some new avenue to pursue Dexter. I suspected there was going to be some twin aspect to Gemini and I like how it played out a lot. Him leaving himself a note as a dead drop and all that. I suspect the one that left the note is the one still alive and that the twin coming to find the drop is the one that followed Dexter. Dexter making the kill in his apartment was a tense scene when Blessings came in. Pretty sloppy of him tho. The ending sets us up for a bonkers episode 7.

Spoiler Does anyone else think Mia isn't dead? It seemed just too quick and neat of a wrap up. It'll be interesting to see where Dexter and the other Gemini twin goes as he's been going through all the other serial killers pretty fast. I'm wondering if they're setting up Peter Dinklage and Uma Thurman's characters as the final bosses.
Craig H Posted August 16, 2025 Posted August 16, 2025 Regarding your first sentence, I doubt that’s a swerve.
NoFistsJustFlips Posted August 17, 2025 Author Posted August 17, 2025 Episode 7 thoughts... Spoiler Another excellent episode. The Batista Dexter cat & mouse game is heating up and making for some great TV. I could see this season ending with Batista finding the evidence he needs and officially charging Dexter, with Dexter going to Prater and coming clean about who he is. And Prater bankrolling him going on the run as long as he keeps in contact and sending trophies and videos of his kills. Which could lead to a point where Prater lets his mask slip more & more and they show how violent and dangerous he is. Then you have that Walt / Gus from Breaking Bad tension, working for someone you're terrified of. No matter how it plays out, this season has been so good. Literally the best season since Rita died. I really hope in subsequent seasons they integrate Astor & Cody back into the story somehow. I feel like that could be a good source of tension. Dexter trying to put his family back together as best as he can, while being hunted by Batista, while also being hunted by The NY Ripper. Let's hope they have some ideas cooking for Season 2 already. Also, the prevailing opinion online of who the NY Ripper is... Spoiler Jonah Mitchell. I didn't buy into it until this episode. Because that voice sounded pretty close to what his voice would be at this age. I guess we'll see. But a cliffhanger reveal of him as the next season big bad would be prettttyyyy good. Or as a lead in to his story being part of the Trinity prequel they're doing could be good too. I also never noticed until watching a few theory videos that Jonah was one of Vogel's patients. His name is on a folder when Dexter is going through her files of psychopaths she was working with. Could lend some credence to him being an active serial killer at that point in time. Maybe he's not active anymore because he started a family and didn't want to follow in Trinity's footsteps?
Curt McGirt Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 New York Ripper, you say? Does he talk like a duck? (Watch the Fulci movie. Or don't, it's pretty nasty)
NoFistsJustFlips Posted August 20, 2025 Author Posted August 20, 2025 I just rewatched episode 7 last night. Don't have a whole lot to add other than this season is just so good. The last 5 minutes is maybe the best dialog in the whole series. So many double meanings. And you understood every one.
NoFistsJustFlips Posted August 25, 2025 Author Posted August 25, 2025 Ugh. First casualty of the Skydance / Paramount merger, they canceled Original Sin. Original Sin was so well recieved and had so much potential. It couldn't have cost that much to shoot vs other series. But still got axed despite having a season 2 renewal. Annoying.
NoFistsJustFlips Posted August 25, 2025 Author Posted August 25, 2025 Episode 8 thoughts... Spoiler Slower episode but the tension built up to Prater's appearance and made it an oh shit moment. I dont get Claudette acting like Batista has lost it. His point of view is very plausible to explain. People thought Dexter was the BHB. He "died". BHB stuff kept happening in the town he was hiding in. Now he's in NYC and the same M.O. happened here too, down to Batista finding a kill room. Just makes Claudette look like a bad cop to not listen. Cant wait for the last two episodes. Hope they stick the landing.
Craig H Posted August 26, 2025 Posted August 26, 2025 (edited) Original Sin walked so Resurrection could run. If Original Sin's axing means we get more Resurrection then I think I'm ok with that. WHY IS RESURRECTION SO GOOD? It's not like the best thing on TV or anything (that would be Alien Earth), but damn if it isn't one of the most fun shows on TV. However, I'm still waiting for Ghost Deb to pop up and ruin everything. EDIT: I thought the same about the Batista stuff. Again, it's fun, but it doesn't make sense. I don't think he takes the fall or anything. Edited August 26, 2025 by Craig H
Leonidas Posted August 29, 2025 Posted August 29, 2025 Actually logged into my long defunct IMDB account just to rate that episode a 10. Oof. 1
Craig H Posted August 30, 2025 Posted August 30, 2025 If this isn't better than season 4 then it sure is close. Hot damn. And there's one episode left in a series that historically only hit the landing in a finale once, maybe twice. I think they can pull it off here. Spoiler I almost don't want to see Prater die. He's such a good foil and villain. Plus, Dexter has never had a big bad that has followed him like a specter. Every season has had it's big villain, then they die, and that's it. Like...I didn't have Batista dying like THAT on my bingo card. I had a feeling he would go after Dexter once Dexter cut him free, but getting shot to death? Man. And his final words too. Dexter brings death to everyone around him. Now Batista. He has to know Charlie is going after Harrison next if she can find him. Wild out of left field guess for the finale - Harrison's girlfriend Gigi is the daughter of the New York Ripper and winds up picking up where her dad left off, killing Charlie or Prater, if both or either are doomed to die, to save Dexter and Harrison. They'll have to contend with Det. Claudette and her partner and probably Quinn as well because I could see him looking for vengeance after Batista is killed. And the NY Ripper can't be Charlier or Prater. That knocks off who were the likely suspects of many. I don't think it's Blessing or Claudette or her partner either. Gigi is the one I keep going back to. There has to be more to her than just the pretty girlfriend of Harrison Morgan. Still, damn, Dexter lost probably the only person he could have called a friend. He made some others, but Batista was the one he was probably closest to in his old life. I'm looking forward to seeing what that does to Dexter's psyche. 1
NoFistsJustFlips Posted September 2, 2025 Author Posted September 2, 2025 Episode 9 thoughts... (maybe the best episode in the whole series??)... Spoiler What an incredible episode / season. Batista's last words being Dexter Morgan Fuck You is ice cold. I'm hyped for the finale. Hope it doesnt get spoiled. While I really enjoyed this episode and how it played out (and the whole season at large) Im unsure what a satisfying end game can be now. Dexter being found out and extradited back to Miami to face trial was the most logical way for the series to play out. But now all that's left from the OG Miami Metro are Quinn & Masuka. Not real a satisfying team to bring him in. This writing team has earned my trust tho so Im sure they have a good plan in place. Episode 10 is going to be wild. Harrison working at the gala. Batista's dead body and Dexter trapped in the vault with hundreds of cops in the mansion as well. Charlie being on the prowl. Can't wait to see how it plays out.
HumanChessgame Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 Spoiler When Dexter had the garrotte on Charlie and she was acting resentful of having to do Prader's dirty work, I thought it was going to lead to the two of them agreeing to take him down. Depending on how the next episode ends, I'm wondering if the next storyline will be Dexter getting blackmailed into going along with Prader's proposal. I also think there's something up with Harrison's gf.
NoFistsJustFlips Posted September 8, 2025 Author Posted September 8, 2025 Episode 10 thoughts... Spoiler An in universe explination for why the BHB display is empty that kind of just sweeps it up the rug, Prater thought he was meeting with Batista to aquire an artifact but it went south and led to the shootout. Batista was meeting as a means to further his investigation and didnt have an artifact. Plausible thing for the police to deduce. I loved this season. Probably my second or third favorite of the entire series. And while the finale was solid, it did kind of feel a little one note. Solid but unspectacular. It did leave a lot of meat on the bone for them to continue this story. But the Dexter way is usually to move onto a new story. I can hand waive a lot of stuff away but a boat dumping a dead body close enough to The Statue of Libery to be in frame is just crazy. You're telling me there's no cameras or patrols at all near one of the biggest US landmarks of all time? Idk about all that. Were getting pretty thin of characters from the original series still left. Quinn. Masuka. Cody. Astor. Lumen. Jamie (Batista's sister). Jonah Mitchell. Thats about it. From the reboots we still have Angela, Teddy, Charlie, Repunzle, NY Ripper, Claudette, & Det Oleva. Im still not seeing a way to get to the logical end game of Dexter getting caught and ending back in Miami. But regardless this was great TV and Im looking forward to seeing what they come up with for next season. Great season. Can't wait for more.
Leonidas Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 I would love a whole season, maybe the finale, to see Dexter actually on the run. A full-on nationwide manhunt for the most prolific serial killer of all time. It's not really the show's way, but I'd love to see them weave in news reports of normal civilians' opinions on who, by now should be known as a vigilante killer of killers.
