EVA Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 One week and a Sun Belt conference title later, this is happening: Based on his CV, Huff is obviously a much more qualified coach than USM’s last 2 hires, but the oddness of his exit from Marshall for what is, at best, a lateral move—and, more honestly, a step down given current conditions at USM—makes you wonder how this is gonna work out.
Brian Fowler Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Looks like Purdue is planning to pry Barry Odom out of Vegas. Hell of a career revival.

Brian Fowler Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Kirk Herbstreit's son Chase, unlike his three older brothers, has accepted a scholarship to play college football. His brothers, two walked on at Clemson and the third is currently a walk-on at their dad's alma mater, Ohio State. Chase, and unranked/unrated 2025 QB has accepted a scholarship offer and committed to The University of Michigan. Makes for an interesting Thanksgiving I'm sure.
RIPPA Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 Yeah certain OSU fans are not handling that news well (Which is amusing… and sad) 2
Brian Fowler Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Update: on3 and 247 both individually have him as a three star but both also list Michigan as his only offer, and he's not listed in the industry composite rankings or by ESPN or Rivals.
RIPPA Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 There is a report that Bill Belichick has agreed to become UNC's HC However there are multiple other reports saying that "no agreement is in place but they are both still talking" It might be picking nits at this point 1
hammerva Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 If what is reported by Ollie Connolly on Twitter said is true, it looks like Bill will be the coach but with a TON of ifs and buts. https://twitter.com/OllieConnolly/status/1866522057791668538
Kevin Wilson Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 Why an average (football team wise) college would put up with that I have no idea, he's 72 with no college coaching experience, but its incredibly amusing so I'm here for it.
Dolfan in NYC Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 I was discussing this with @Josh Mann earlier and we both are in agreement, more than anything, this is a holding spot for Bill's failson to eventually ascend the throne and take over the Heels job whenever he decides to be done. Also, from what I've seen in the reporting the document is literally hundreds of pages long and aside from being non-negotiable, basically absolves Bill of any recruiting duties. And that some of the trustees of the school are pushing back because of some of the demands in there. The final answer will probably come today though.
RIPPA Posted December 11, 2024 Author Posted December 11, 2024 Well if Bill decides to go to UNC - he will get to face his rival's new QB Darian Mensah, formerly of Tulane, has committed to Duke
Dolfan in NYC Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 According to Schefter, the deal is done. Bill Belichick is a Tarheel.
Cobra Commander Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 will the coaches who went to Saban to rehab their reputations ended up working for Bill in 2025?
Dolfan in NYC Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 RichRod is going to WVU to be their next head coach
hammerva Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Yeah not impressed with Rich Rod going back to West Virginia. Feels like this was the boosters and NIL having Pst White and Steve Slaton flashbacks and thinking he can do it again. While he is much better Neal Brown not sure how much. Plus the biggest elephant in the room is that IF West Virginia becomes a top tier team, major schools will be interested and he will stab us again
RIPPA Posted December 12, 2024 Author Posted December 12, 2024 UNLV has hired Dan Mullen I am sure that will go well
Chaos Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I'm kind of surprised by that one. The common narrative around Mullen is he liked working in TV and wasn't interested in coaching again. I think he'll do well there.
Brian Fowler Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Mullen in a place where he doesn't need to recruit a top five roster? I think it'll be a great fit. 1

People raved about him when he was the running backs coach in Minnesota when Adrian Peterson was there, because certainly coaching that guy was a tough gig. I feel like the Chiefs' offense with Bieniemy and after Bieniemy is noticeably different. I feel like judging coaches is difficult, because you can ask great players to do more than you can average players. If you look at Saban's Alabama teams and all the crazy shit they do in coverage, it's more than you can ask a less talented team to do. So they always had a talent advantage and a strategic advantage. There is plenty of evidence that the scheming he did in Kansas City was exceptional, especially in the Eagles Super Bowl. I don't know if he can do it with a worse quarterback, but whatever he was doing with Mahomes seems to click. They even brought him back as an advisor before their last AFC Championship Game after leaving the Commandos. Coaching is one of those things that is hard as hell to judge, because of course it's easier to do with elite talent. At the same time, a coaches ability to scheme is limited by the ability of the players to execute it. With all of that said, I can't be the only one who thinks Bill Belichick is going to fail miserably at North Carolina. I have no idea how he can recruit well enough to get college kids to run his uber advanced schemes. We've seen him when he doesn't have elite talent, especially at quarterback, but I really do not see how he's going to have college kids play his defense. He also seems to be fairly terrible at talent evaluation these days. Much more than the NFL, college football is about recognizing talent, and quite frankly I think that's his biggest weakness at this point in his career. Not only that, running a college program is a long term investment, and he's going to be 73 by the start of the next season. He'll be 75 by the time anyone should have any expectations. This is crazy. 2

This is crazy. Joe Paterno was incontinent and had no idea where he was the last few years he coached and still averaged 9 wins a season, Belichick is a 1,000 times better coach that Paterno ever was. For the old fart coaches it's all about the coaching staff, if he hires people will college experience and recruiting talent, UNC will be in the playoffs in a year or two. He's not going to be a normal coach, he'll basically be the CEO of the program.
Tabe Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Alex Orji, a quarterback not allowed to throw the ball for three years at Michigan, has entered the transfer portal.
Brian Fowler Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 FWIW, Washington basically ran the Belicheck defense this year under Steve, and Bill was a fairly regular presence around the team. Despite the mass talent exodus, it went pretty well and helped convinced Bill that his system can work in college.
Cobra Commander Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Nick Rolovich, who was fired by Washington State in 2021 for not taking the COVID vaccine is back in college coaching as an assistant at… Cal-Berkeley! (Well Rolovich was the OC of the Seattle Sea Dragons last year but didn’t actually coordinate any games with them before the team was folded)
