I don't get why they broke up Statlander and Stokely. They were good together. SRS recently gave an oddly worded report that continuing their story “wasn’t an option.” Which could mean a lot things, but kinda implies maybe some sort of personal issue between them. 1 2

And that is why evil will always triumph.....because good is dumb. Didn't happen here. Hope it doesn't at AEW WrestleDream. 3
The Natural Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Quite the year for Britt Baker, comes back to a not well received match with Mercedes Mone, is suspended by AEW, is very sick missing her match on this show and allegedly broken up with Adam Cole. 1
Zimbra Posted October 9 Posted October 9 I like the John Carpenter synths they're doing for the BCC promos. If Matt's idea about Darby getting the AEW roster ready to go up against BCC is right then Brody is a good way to start. Great use of a blood capsule, too. Komander/Hologram was weird. They covered for their blown spots pretty well but then there would be bits where they just sort of stood around. Emi/Mone wasn't as good as I wanted it to be; Mone needed to give a little more to Emi to really make it work. I'm all in on a Stat/Kamille hoss fight. The four way wasn't great but it's nice to see Penelope back and Willow pouncing Mariah backstage was cool. I'm sure the image of a wounded Wheeler Yuta reaching out to Danielson who is playing to the crowd won't become relevant very soon. 5
Casey Posted October 9 Posted October 9 (edited) I never thought I’d say this sentence in regards to AEW in 2024, but the most exciting thing they have going is a potential Swerve/Nduka/Nana versus Lashley/Shelton/MVP program. Edited October 9 by Casey 2
DreamBroken Posted October 9 Posted October 9 I liked a lot of the more promo heavy opening portion. Sad to see the official ending of the Jake/Archer pairing but I want to love the potential Jake with Rush/Dralistico/Beast Mortos pairing, even though they never did anything with Jake pairing Archer with the Righteous previously. Can only hope Archer in the Callis Family can finally lead to something more for him. Good to see Garcia is officially sticking around. Enjoyed the Ospreay/Callis promo leading to Takeshita brawl, Fletcher involvement, and ultimately Ricochet's save. Nice build for the three way. Komander/Hologram had a couple great spots. Women's 4 way was fun and good to see Penelope back in the mix. Mercedes/Emi was solid. Great tag main event and the more frequent Final Countdown is the best. 3
Curt McGirt Posted October 9 Posted October 9 I only saw the Callis deal (good as per usual. I still think Callis pens in the scar with a makeup pencil before he goes on camera), some of Emi/Mercedes (god I hate Mercedes' Meteora based offense), and the main (of absolutely no consequence, just a plain 'ol tag match). And them opening with a four way that I didn't pay attention to. Do a follow-up on this tomorrow. 1
caley Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Darby attacking King with a rock was so odd. I especially liked Excalibur: Is that a rock in his hand? Tony: No! it's...it...it is (30 seconds later) Tony: He had that rock in a recent interview that we saw... So Tony completely refutes it being a rock in Darbys hands but half a minute later can totally remember that Darby used a rock in a recent promo. It's the worst kind of modrrn wrestling commentary where you can tell theyre being fed lines by someone. Speaking of bad commentary, Mariah should maybe not do anymore. Scooby Doo references? Now on to good commentary, I was very much dreading Jarrett replacing Taz but he was excellent. Put a lot of guys over, didn't put himself over. Does He do commentary on Collision/Rampage? Because of not, he should. Jake Roberts not being in TV for MONTHS only to return to manage a group of luchadores is my kind of goofiness. I hope Don Callis didn't spend a lot in Archer's contract seeing as never bothered to come out and help him. 1
just drew Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Glad Daniel Garcia is staying. Continuing to let young talent leave while bringing in guys like Lashley would be a bad look. There's a happy medium. I think Yuta turns Saturday. From the beginning, his whole thing is "I got beat on to join the BCC. I expect it from them, and it makes me better." He becomes even more sadistic under Mox. Either that or he becomes staunch Team AEW in the fight against Mox n them. He's been so good as a shitheel that I'd be wary of turning him, though. Always good to see Penelope Ford. For reasons. I won't be taking questions at this time. This tag team scene needs to be better. This can't be the marquee feud. You've got GYV, FTR, MxM, the Acclaimed, the Conglomerate, and various HoB members you could have challenging for these titles. Big Bill & Bryan Keith, too. Mortos rules. 10/10 no notes. Darby just doesn't do it for me. I get why the people who like him like him, it's just very much "not for me." Should be a fun PPV this weekend. Lashley debuting should be cool. I think AEW is really starting to find some things. Jay White being back could help a ton. I really like what he and Juice bring to the table, and the Gunn Club holds up their end, too. It feels to me like they're really building some sustained momentum. 1
Craig H Posted October 9 Posted October 9 I don’t why people keep expecting Yuta to turn. They’ve given zero reason for it and while Yuta does well as a piece of shit heel, he works well as a fiery babyface. Unless they bring it back to Yuta taking umbrage at Danielson calling Yuta a piece of shit for awhile early on in Yuta's BCC tenure. This Dynamite was really…weird. A lot of promo time given to dudes who haven’t gotten much better at talking, Darby having one of his bad promos, all night long they had people inexplicably changing alliances or alignments. So with this Brody shit, is House of Black done? Is Darby trying to build a group to take on the BCC? Just a weird go home show. 1
Shartnado Posted October 9 Posted October 9 (edited) Now if Brian Cage doesn't become the ROH TV champion, I will most likely riot on my couch. I was supposed to say that on the PPV thread, but anyway... Far be it from me to complain about Penelope Ford trying to get noticed again, but attacking/distracting Hayter in order to do it is a definite "Bold Strategy, Cotton" -maneuver! I wonder if someone put her up to it? Deonna, perhaps? So Callis looked at RUSH and went "I can't govern this guy! Let Jake the Snake take a shot at it, I'll take my chances with indoctrinating Lance Archer!"? Edited October 9 by Shartnado Supposed to say that on the PPV thread 1

He currently holds a belt with Claudio and Pac which they've made no mention of vacating, and him getting beat up by them doesn't mean he is against them as they beat him up all the time. His promo last week made it seem he was more mad about not being in the loop then their actual actions. Plus as mentioned, the closing shot of Yuta reaching out for Danielson while Danielson ignores him to do the Yes! chant was I don't think an accident and is something Yuta could easily use to explain why he decided to stay with Mox. At this point I'd put it at 90% he stays with Mox, 10% turns Team AEW. 4 1
Technico Support Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Oh lordy Jarrett channelling his inner JR was definitely not needed. Complaining about guys not going for a cover after an insane spot that left both laying? Sweet Jesus. If the new LFI isn't renamed "The Union of The Snake," what are we even doing? 1 2 1
EVA Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Ugh, man. If Yuta sticks with BCC, this will be the SECOND TIME that AEW has blown it with a hot, young babyface who was getting over through his association with Bryan by having him stick with a heel group. Nobody wants this! Actually try taking advantage of a young babyface’s momentum for a change, TK! 4
Log Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Darby is probably in my top 3 or so of wrestlers I get excited to see wrestle. I don't need to hear him cut any more promos, though. 4 1
EVA Posted October 9 Posted October 9 I think Darby is a good promo, but anytime he starts going into shoot material, it’s the absolute shits. Second time I’ve said this in like ten minutes, but…nobody wants that! 3 1
Zimbra Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Where else am I supposed to hear about him living in his car??? 1
EVA Posted October 9 Posted October 9 (edited) See, that’s okay because that’s backstory that’s relevant to his character as presented on TV. I just don’t need to hear about how he got the beast man in a death cult his job, or how he’s mad somebody else was handed opportunities because they’re friends with management, etc. Edited October 9 by EVA 4
Craig H Posted October 9 Posted October 9 I could go for the anti-BCC being Yuta, Darby, Garcia, and, if he’s leaving HoB, Brody. Or just 3 of those guys. Fuck it, bring in Josh Barnett as their mentor and call them Team Bloodsport or something. 3
Curt McGirt Posted October 9 Posted October 9 I forgot that we got the return of THE LOUD ASS YELLING JAY WHITE PROMO last night. 4
SovietShooter Posted October 9 Posted October 9 At first it really seemed to me like this whole angle could be a vehicle for getting Yuta over as a main event level Babyface. And, if you listen to the crowd reactions, it is working. Yuta sticking with Danielson and aggressively going after Mox and/or Claudio/Pac could really get him over, and it seems like all of those guys would genuinely want to get him over. Yuta turning on Danielson would be the easy thing to do to hotshot a couple PPV matches, and then Yuta is no better off than he was before, long-term But the way that tag match went down last night, I think they may be pivoting to that. I really hope not. 5
AxB Posted October 9 Posted October 9 I excuse Jeff Jarrett yelling about making the cover after the second rope backflip Russian Legsweep, because his finish is also a Side Russian that lands in a facedown bump. Them putting ove the Statlander and Kamille staredown as building up the battle of the powerhouses was interesting, after the other women's match (Two women's matches on Dynamite!) featured Nyla, Jamie and Willow really brought to attention how powerhouse-heavy the Women's division is getting. Like Riho and Yuka are the only small ones, and they aren't often around. As far as their opponents go, both Saraya and Mercedes really flourished in a WWE environment where the "This is the best women's wrestling has ever been" could take hold. AEW existing in a world where all other wrestling history also exists, and Dump Matsumoto vs the Crush Gals is part of existing history, and Akira Hokuto and Aja Kong's careers are things that happened... selling Saraya and Mercedes as among the best wrestlers of all time just looks silly. And both of them look very out of place working a dominant style in AEW. Mercedes controlling most of the match with Emi really dragged it out down from what it could have been. Emi's match with Hayter (right after Jamie won the AEW Women's title) was way better. Mercedes should have been an opportunistic weasel in that match, not going 60/40. 2
Just Adam Bay Bay Posted October 9 Posted October 9 So I was a bit surprised to read someone pushing for MXM to get the tag title shot especially over The Outrunners. The Outrunners are fun and hot right now, and after Collision Grand Slam I’d be okay with not seeing MXM ever again. Now onto last nights show. I’m definitely in the camp that enjoyed JJ doing commentary. He felt like a natural to me, and added way more than Taz or Nigel do. I also liked the trade segment with Don and Jake as at first I thought he was trading away Kyle Fletcher or Powerhouse Hobbs. And to whomever said less shooty promos from Darby I couldn’t agree more. Like it’s great Brody King has two children, but that’s not a necessary part of his character or anything we need to know.
Zakk_Sabbath Posted October 9 Posted October 9 9 minutes ago, Just Adam Bay Bay said: after Collision Grand Slam I’d be okay with not seeing MXM ever again. I'm bummed to hear that, if only because that segment was actually pretty damn well-received in the building* despite it's sports-entertaininess (especially surprising to me considering how deep into the evening it was taped, but that segment legit woke us up a bit for Okada/Sammy). * Full disclosure: me and four fellow drunks a row over were convinced Gunn was Chris Masters; this may have enhanced the proceedings. -- Great episode this week! I saw someone say on Twitter that it felt almost like a reboot or a season premiere type episode with all the different goings on, and I have to agree. And man, I gotta say, there is probably no better use for that Turner money than locking up Garcia, and sneaking in a couple last "Final Countdown" plays. On a personal note, we have a wedding to go to this weekend so we can't watch until Sunday and I am fucking g u t t e d about it, because as a go-home show I thought this definitely achieved its goal. If I've got one criticism, it's that I thought the thing with Penelope taking Hayter out of the four-way was just a little bit too similar to Mox and Danielson fighting their way to the back in order to set up the Yuta beatdown (which, btw, I thought was shot wonderfully, but may as well have included a "Watch Yuta Turn on Saturday Because of This Right Here" on-screen graphic. Hopefully just a really well-done red herring, but we shall see). 2
