RIPPA Posted August 3, 2024 Author Posted August 3, 2024 If the Jays are gonna keep pitching to Aaron Judge - he might hit 70 1
RIPPA Posted August 3, 2024 Author Posted August 3, 2024 5 hours ago, RIPPA said: If the Jays are gonna keep pitching to Aaron Judge - he might hit 70 Right after I posted this - the Jays intentionally walked Judge in the 2nd inning with 2 outs and no one on base which is... rare Quote Judge, 32, became the first player intentionally walked with the bases empty in the first two innings of a game in the last 50 seasons. And the last time a player was intentionally walked with two outs and nobody on base within the first two innings of a game was Aug. 10, 1972. The player: Minnesota Twins catcher Glenn Borgmann, a .229 hitter with 16 home runs over a nine-year career who was walked to get to the pitcher.
RIPPA Posted August 4, 2024 Author Posted August 4, 2024 The White Sox have lost 20 games in a row 1 1
odessasteps Posted August 5, 2024 Posted August 5, 2024 The 1988 Orioles will sitting around waiting to pop champagne like they were Mercury Morris and the 72 Dolphins. 1
RIPPA Posted August 5, 2024 Author Posted August 5, 2024 A couple other notes about the White Sox futility They are 60 games below .500 for the first in franchise history They are on pace to lose 124 games which would be the most by a team since the 1899 Cleveland Spiders (who lost 134 and are generally considered the worst team ever) There might be reason to hope - their next 3 games are at Oakland
Hamhock Posted August 5, 2024 Posted August 5, 2024 Extrapolating ahead; if they lose the next three at Oakland, that ties them with the 1961 Phillies for the modern record at 23. The record-setting 24th loss would be at home vs. the Cubs on Friday, and there are post-game fireworks scheduled. So conceivably they could lose and set a new record for consecutive losses and then set off fireworks for the crowd. 2

That team lost 119 games.
odessasteps Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 It’s too bad LaRussa isn’t the manager during this losing streak. 2
Tabe Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 Freddie Freeman was back in the lineup tonight. His son Max had a neurological disorder that left him paralyzed. However, it's apparently curable - he's back home and is expected to make a full recovery. Incredible. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/40739913/freddie-freeman-returns-dodgers-son-maximus-recovers-rare-medical-issue 2
RIPPA Posted August 6, 2024 Author Posted August 6, 2024 White Sox lose 5-1 to tie the AL record at 21 straight games Oh BTW - they aren't eligible for the top pick in the draft due to the new CBA rules so the highest 1st round pick they can have is 10th (this is the same thing that hurt the Nats last year) 1

RIPPA Posted August 6, 2024 Author Posted August 6, 2024 10 minutes ago, sabremike said: Can you explain what rule this is? Teams that DON'T receive competitive balance payouts are ineligible to receive a lottery pick two years in a row. Basically - MLB feels like if you have "enough" money to compete, the only reason you suck is because you are tanking and this is basically an "anti-tanking" measurement. (Being bad at your job also isn't a reason to get multiple good picks) And as a reminder - the payouts are based on market size and Chicago is the third largest market EDIT - forgot to mention, Oakland is also ineligible due to having a lottery pick two years in a row (so there is an anti-tanking measure for small markets too) 1
Cobra Commander Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 Reds and Braves apparently gonna play at Bristol Motor Speedway next year they should have commercial of Elly De La Cruz racing a car just because.. even if they have to use a lot of cinematic magic to make it work
