RIPPA Posted May 28, 2024 Author Posted May 28, 2024 Angel Hernandez confirmed to ESPN last night that he is retiring. His agent says that MLB approached him about moving on to other things but his agent insists that Hernandez "wasn't forced out" ESPN's full story - https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/40231476/mlb-umpire-angel-hernandez-retiring

RIPPA Posted May 29, 2024 Author Posted May 29, 2024 Josh Gibson is now the all time leader in Batting Average, Slugging and OPS He also holds the single season BA record Other interesting things - Minnie Minoso now is credited with over 2000 hits for his career as he was credited with another 150 hits Other players seeing small boosts in their numbers: Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson and Satchel Paige It is really fascinating reading into all the research done to verify all the numbers. Like Josh Gibson has a 4 HR game that he isn't getting credit for because they have yet to be able to find a complete game accounts yet. And in case you are wondering why this all happening now - MLB's Lead Historian pretty much admitted that once MLB accepted the shortened 2020 season, it was hard to not include the Negro league seasons 2
Cobra Commander Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 Red Button meme about crediting Negro Leagues Stats centered around if they could find enough Aaron HRs to move him back ahead of Bonds (he's only credited with 5 HRs with the Clowns, a few years outside the window of when they're counting those stats)
Cobra Commander Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 meanwhile, now that the Yankees got bit by the whole "interference on an infield fly" thing, expect some real changes to happen of course, this play involved way more contact than the play in Chicago and Soto's baserunning was a bit worse than Vaughn's baserunning
Cobra Commander Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 also, the Jorge Lopez napalming the bridge to get off the Mets thing is the most late 90s wrestling thing to hit baseball in awhile. Like Jorge Lopez just turned into August 1998 Eddie Guerrero shooting on Nitro to advance an angle that wasn’t really gonna do much because the Mets are the WCW of baseball teams. 1

I don't see why there would be any complaints on this one since Soto didn't put forth nearly enough effort to get out of the way.

I think most of the Reddit/Baseball Yankee fan complaints were variants of "what is Soto supposed to do" and "the fielder misjudged it" But it was bases loaded with 0 out, one could wonder why Soto is taking that much of a lead

That, ya know, happens. What is he supposed to do? Hustle back to the base by taking a wide angle well behind the defender before stepping onto the base. It's not exactly Rocket Surgery.
