Cobra Commander Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Just got lunch from the McDonalds attached to the truck stop where 2 Cold Scorpio stabbed a guy. Someone was asking for money and I had to cold shoulder them. No wonder Scorp had to stab a guy there 1
tbarrie Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Reminder to all: today is Pi Day and Albert Einstein's birthday. Go eat some pie and develop a new scientific theory that revolutionizes its field. 2

Curt McGirt Posted March 17 Posted March 17 I just found out that Einstein was a dedicated Socialist, and that put a smile on my face.
driver Posted March 18 Posted March 18 I got a text Saturday night saying that my flight on Sunday night from Anchorage-Chicago had been cancelled. So I immediately rebooked for a flight from Anchorage-Denver-Chicago leaving in less than two hours. So I gathered everything up and headed to the airport. If the flight took off on time I'd have forty minutes to make the next flight. The plane left two hours late because the Exit sign had somehow come loose and they couldn't find the screws to fix it. So after they magically fixed it we were in the air. When we landed in Denver I already knew that my original flight was gone, so I got rebooked to a DEN-Sioux City, IA-Chicago flight. When it was time to board they said we were delayed because of weather(it was a shit day for weather) and an hour later they cancelled the flight. So I rebooked onto a direct flight to Chicago that was supposed to leave at 3, then it was repeatedly delayed so I rebooked to a later direct flight that was supposed to leave at 9PM. Finally we get on the plane and just as we're settling in they say the flight is delayed because of weather and everybody grabs their stuff and gets off of the plane. An hour later we get back on the plane and we finally take off a little after 11 PM. I'd been in Denver since 9 AM. We land in Chicago a little after 2 AM. I go to find my bag that had came in on an earlier flight. Then I catch a shuttle to long term parking to get my car and drive two hours and change to get home. Between leaving Saturday night and landing Monday morning I'd had maybe an hour sleep, drank way too much coffee, eaten a dodgy chicken taco at the Denver airport. Also my work boots were very comfortable because I'd been wearing them since Saturday night. I loved Anchorage, getting back was a dog and pony shit show of a goat rodeo. Also the direct Anchorage-Chicago flight would've landed only a few hours after the flight that I finally came in on. 1
Technico Support Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Some work days are so shitty, I can't help but remember my boss from my old job. We were in another city doing tear-down for the office of a subsidiary our company had shut down, and we were driving someplace. There's roadwork going on and he just looks over at the city worker who's holding a flag and directing traffic, gives a wistful sigh, and says something like "you know, some days I'm really jealous of the flag guy. He has nothing to worry about, just come to the job and wave that flag, and then go home." Yeah, I think about that a lot. 4
Nice Guy Eddie Posted March 19 Posted March 19 I guess this is the most appropriate place for this, but I might be moving in the next month or so, but I've decided I can part with my wrestling dvd's, so if anyone is interested, let me know. Most of them are ROH, but I've also got Chikara, PWG, WWE, ECW, Dragon Gate USA, FMW, TNA, etc.
The Natural Posted March 21 Posted March 21 One of my best friends, Conrad has passed away. I'm fucking gutted. Fuck cancer. 10
Super Ape Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Next week we're driving to Daytona Beach to visit my mom for the first time since she moved there a year and a half ago. She's driven up to Philly a few times since the move, the most recent being Christmas. But I don't know how I feel about it; partly because we're driving all the way down*, but also because I don't know if the wounds have fully healed just yet. I just hope the vacation isn't an exercise in frustration. * My wife, in all her forethought, booked hotels for us to stay at at the halfway point both coming and going. Also, my mom is paying for the hotel near her place, so it won't put us out much, thankfully. 4
Tabe Posted March 24 Posted March 24 Took a break from feeling sorry for myself and flew up to Juneau, Alaska this past weekend to run* a Rubik's Cube competition there. I volunteered months ago, figuring "when am I ever going to get a free trip to Alaska?" I have not really looked forward to it since but I decided to be a good soldier. The local organizer for the comp was a guy who lives in Juneau half the year working for a helicopter tour company. He was an awesome tour guide. Within an hour of arriving, I'd seen a dozen bald eagles, two dozen seals, and visited a glacier. I was able to relax and enjoy the incredibly beautiful scenery. If you like mountains Juneau is the place to be. The competition itself was great. Small number of people, very chill vibe. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Sunday morning while waiting to fly out, I was joined by all the families who'd flown in from Anchorage. They grilled me with questions about cubing and competitions, the kids told me how much fun they'd had, how excited they were for the Anchorage competition in May, and just generally being fun to be around. A really nice reminder of why I run competitions. On a personal level, I regained my senior North American Record for 4x4 single solve. Totally unexpected. So, yeah, popped up to Juneau for a weekend visit and it was awesome. 38 states down, 12 to go! * - autocorrect had this as "to rob a competition", which is all kinds of hilarious. Spoiler 7

Cobra Commander Posted March 25 Posted March 25 How to fix computer stuff accidentally Last night, listening to a song, I decide "well, it's late, I could plug the headphones in" Then the sound doesn't work on the headphones, or on the computer. So I go to bed. I start up, still no sound. I restart, still no sound. Then I plug the headphones in, and the sound is back (and works like normal) It's different from how the Waves would mess up in the past and not acknowledge the headphones being plugged in. That would be fixed by a restart which doubles as "Okay Waves, be normal now" also, I flipped a few months ago from trying to use Winamp in 2026 to using WACup and once I accidentally got WACup to remember to load the playlist, it's worked great
Curt McGirt Posted March 26 Posted March 26 Enormous amount of anxiety over this, but my folks decided to move back to the place of my birth: Cape Girardeau, Missouri. My uncle is in a neighboring town (they're basically connected, just like the Champaign-Urbana duality of my current home base) and the only friends they have that have stayed in contact are moving there too. I felt extremely helpless due to not having a job right now and thus nowhere to go, but after we went down there I've changed my tune. It's a beautiful place. Everything is on a rolling hill of some sort and the landscape is basically mountainous. Lots of winding roads which will be a big change from the cornfields we're stuck in now. Also the town is literally right on the Mississippi River, dry dock, floodwalls and everything. Within the space of a day they found an enormous house to move into with full basement way up on a hill to where my ears even were popping due to the height. I was really freaked out about all this (I hate change) but now I think it'll be good to have a fresh start and switch up everything. Life hands you some curveballs, I'll tell you that. 5 2
zendragon Posted March 26 Posted March 26 I got to the airport at 6 in the evening and had to reschedule my flight for 6 in the morning. Actually had to wait while the TSA shut down over night.
Cobra Commander Posted March 27 Posted March 27 (edited) I judged a student congress round today and I'm not sure which part was my favorite between "kids who thought Charles Manson had a swastika tattoo when he was arrested" (he carved an X into his head during the trial and it only turned into a swastika in the 80s, but to be fair, high school seniors were born in 2007/08 and CrimeLibrary wasn't around during their lives), the people who were very obviously CX debaters using CX jargon that were probably trying to get a ticket into a higher level tournament in an event, or the debate for a "make Venezuela the 51st state" bill where I had to press on the gap on my palm between my thumb and forefinger to not react to insane stuff (some of the bills presented a challenge to get speakers on both sides and everything got voted down) meanwhile around here, the local stinkbug population is awakening from hibernation in wherever the fuck they spent their last few months, and i'm catching them and either flushing them or tossing them outside depending on my mood Edited March 27 by Cobra Commander
Zimbra Posted March 31 Posted March 31 I think we're going to have to say goodbye to our cat Simon this week. He's been slowly declining for a while but it seems like things have picked up. I hate it, of course, but I also hate seeing him suffer. 6

Tabe Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Ya know, it's the little things that make you feel appreciated in these difficult times. Like being invited to your company-sponsored CPR class on June 16 when you're being laid off on June 5. NOTE: This is sarcasm. I'm not actually upset at this. Seriously. 1

Thankfully, reports of Simon's death have been greatly exaggerated. He's not doing great, but he's not as bad as I'd feared. He's got a lil URI and has decided he no longer likes the wet food he's been eating so once he gets some antibiotics and fed back up he should be feeling better. 7

The Natural Posted April 2 Posted April 2 March was really rough with my Birthday/Mother's Day mourning my much missed Mum and I then lost one of my best friends in Conrad to cancer. The day I found out was really dark. Fuck cancer. My cancer screening surgery was supposed to be today but it was put back a week by the hospital for next Thursday. I've just had a phone call that the cancer screening surgery is cancelled because of the fucking doctors strike. That's twice now they've rearranged, not me. The bitter irony is that if the original date of today kept, I'd have missed the strike by five days. The strike starts next Tuesday and I was to go down Thursday. It's now May when I'll have it done but I'm not holding my breath. I'm sore, I'm tired and royally fucked off. I needed to get that off my chest. 2
