driver Posted February 26 Posted February 26 The highlight of the day was being paired with a driver after the fact after the drivers myself and my fellow trainer were supposed to train went straight to their trucks and left for the day. I got their most tenured driver(12 years) and the other trainer ended up as the third man in an already tight cab on another truck. I got to see some of Baltimore after spending the first two days of the week in/around DC. What could've been an embarrassing day(when one of the big bosses was visiting) turned into an easy cake walk of a day(and I got to learn a new type of shred truck) and I got to see both Camden Yards and M&T Bank Stadium right before we went into the Fort McHenry Tunnel(that goes under the harbor). Easy days make me smile. 1

driver Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Yes, 95 south. It didn't feel like we were that high, but it was a weird feeling going into the tunnel. Seeing Under Armour's HQ surprised me because I thought it was an arena at first. 1

JLSigman Posted February 26 Posted February 26 ANOTHER earthquake centered just a few miles from me, at the local dam, and sure we're not all watching for cracks or anything.... 2
Nice Guy Eddie Posted February 26 Posted February 26 I have to attend a viewing tomorrow before going to New Japan's Trenton show. I'm pretty sure my friend's brother OD'ed, but it doesn't feel right to ask. 6

Cobra Commander Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Great moments in fixing things: The boombox-shaped thing (Soundstream Cannon) I use as a bluetooth speaker wasn't acknowledging anything when I pressed the power button. I unplugged it, light turns off, plug it back in, and things turn on. And the button works again too. It's a little different than the times where the buttons didn't work and it wouldn't turn off but I've found that if it doesn't get unplugged on occasion then it'll get stuck like that one day and unplugging it for a certain length of time kinda reboots it (it takes longer if it's stuck on and you're unplugging it until the lights go off). Also there's a tiny remote with tiny batteries that hasn't worked in years. Also, the speaker is a brand that hasn't been sold in years. So i'm having to remember things like how to 'reboot' it and remembering to not install iOS updates on my phone while the speaker is on. But it's had a pretty solid run for something I didn't realize the utility of until I figured out it sounded better to play stuff through a speaker than through my phone 1

But it's had a pretty solid run for something I didn't realize the utility of until I figured out it sounded better to play stuff through a speaker than through my phone It took me three reads to realize you mean "turned the lights off on the speaker" and not "I turned off the lights in the house and that fixed the speaker."
Cobra Commander Posted February 27 Posted February 27 yeah this speaker has LEDs which react to the sounds, so when I unplug the speaker in order to force it to shutdown, the thing eventually turns off the LED lights and everything else on the speaker or in the case of today, there's just one little light on the board that shows when it's plugged in and turned off, and unplugging it turned that light off too (the existence of that light means the bottom light on the battery indicator is dimmer than the other 3 battery lights when its on) also, when the power flickers in this house, this speaker turns on when the power turns back on at least one photo of the brand exists online and it's a wide circular thing with buttons in the top row that occasionally stop working.. it kinda feels like I have the speaker equivalent to abandonware because this brand was discontinued years ago Spoiler 1
driver Posted February 28 Posted February 28 Back at home for a week before heading to Alaska for a week. This is going to be fucking interesting. 2
Johnny Sorrow Posted February 28 Posted February 28 (edited) My 15 year old nephew just got home from baseball tryouts and he's now officially a High School ballplayer. He's been playing in Little League and competitive leagues since he was six. I coached him for seven years, starting with coach pitch. He spent the last few months going to school early every day for voluntary strength conditioning training, and tryouts were every day after school the past week. When he walked through the door an hour ago in uniform, I burst with pride. Edited February 28 by Johnny Sorrow 9
The Natural Posted March 6 Posted March 6 (edited) Today's my birthday so I'll wish myself it. Happy birthday to me. I got a Batman Beyond sweatshirt, The Joker from The Dark Knight figure, Batman: Resurrection and a framed photo collage of Michael Keaton's Batman from Batman 1989/Batman Returns. I've had a good un though had my moments missing my late great Mum. Edited March 6 by The Natural 3
driver Posted March 10 Posted March 10 It was 50F when I left home yesterday to catch a flight to Anchorage, AK. I was prepared for the cold and packed warm socks, thermals, got some subzero rated gloves and all that happy horseshit. Today it was 10F and I overdressed for it. For some reason 10F here felt like 30F in Indiana. It's a different kind of cold because 10F would be downright miserable. Talking to one of the guys they said that when it hirs 30F here people are wearing shorts and flip flops.

Contentious C Posted March 12 Posted March 12 A special "fuck you" to the prick in downtown Columbia who always orders food from the same restaurant almost 10 miles away and never, ever, ever tips. You've fucked up my stats on Grubhub nearly every single fucking week, you worthless cheapskate. People like you are why dynamic pricing might be a good idea, just to price your stupid ass out of the market. Your convenience comes at a cost that isn't always measured in dollars. 1

Last Friday was the one-year anniversary of my most recent job being eliminated. I'd been in that job for about fifteen years and had expected to retire in it (or in a related position in the same department, at least).
