Cobra Commander Posted January 31 Posted January 31 (edited) have you ever thought about investing in losing your money unless something happens Edited January 31 by Cobra Commander
Cobra Commander Posted February 5 Posted February 5 thinking my car around here (2nd gen Prius) has made a comeback after a few months of problems (because I wasn't driving as much for periods, so the battery ran down and the lights would squeal and eventually produce a red triangle, and after a first try where replacing the battery didn't stop that, they were able to fix the inverter, similar to the solution last year where they talked about how there were corroded wires screwing it up)... they spoke of fixing the brakes but the only oddity last two times I went out was the tire pressure warning light, which is sort of an occasional thing for whatever reason and doesn't actually cause the car to stop working or the battery to die also the weather was nice so I just rolled out to drive around for like 50 minutes in the 2pm hour 1

driver Posted February 6 Posted February 6 A week later and how things have changed. I've kept in touch with my lead driver who just spent a week in Lexington, Ky(and where I am next week). He said it's an all capital SHIT SHOW, as in they're lacking trucks/workers/everything. Routes are kept somewhat local, but he had to rent a truck 3 out of the 4 days he was there. The warehouse's coverage area is Central/Eastern Kentucky. There is a Cincinnati warehouse an hour north on the KY side of the Ohio. This is going to be interesting. I got the phone number of a coworker who is helping out down there, and apparently he's the only line of communication because the locals are indifferent/DILLIGAF/hostile to our combined efforts to help a situation. If Lexington doesn't pan out I get a week at home before heading to Baltimore for a week. After that I need some time to renew my CDL, gather my thoughts, do some spring cleaning before heading out again. C'est la vie, mec.

(I'm talking about real investments, of course. Not this "prediction market" nonsense.) Ah the old get rich slow scheme! (I also have a good bit in mutual funds for the same reason) 1
driver Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Man has this been an awesome fucking week. Instead of zero cooperation and total dysfunction, it's been nothing but cooperation and zero dysfunction. Not being familiar with the area or customers and training a new guy in his first week, it has been a walk in the park. The only dysfunction seems to be in the mind of the guy who told me about the dysfunction. Heading back to the warehouse on Tuesday I saw this giant monument of what looked like an eagle off in the distance and I mentioned it to my coworker and he said "The Penguins?" and I thought to myself "Penguins?". Then as we made a turn I saw a penguin display outside of a business that was directly below what I had been looking at and I pointed out the monument and he said "I never knew that was there"(and he has lived in Lexington for years). Turns out it's the monument and mausoleum for Henry Clay. Today we were coming back from Danville and Stanford and hitting 75 at Richmond, boy howdy, did we hit some hills. Nice thing is I've had a brand new truck all week(Isuzu FTR) and I am in love with the truck. It's a cabover with a 26' cargo box and the lack of a nose makes getting into/out of places a lot easier. I love a tight turn radius, but the downside is that you feel every bump because you're sitting over the front tires. If I got the chance to come back I would, because it couldn't be any easier. 2

Well, that is the best one can hope for in this economy (goes double, at least, for the people in US)! 1

I am always wary of them, as i feel like in any kind of front-end collision, there's next to no safety cushion.

I love the amount of storage space behind the front seats. The reason for all of that space is that it's a sleeper berth and in the trim just behind the seats is a slot for a privacy curtain. Working out of Lexington we never got more than an hour away, but still hit a ton of small towns that I've heard referred to on wrestling pods. I got done early today because of the fourteen stops we had, twelve had been serviced on Tuesday(it's a glitch in the system) and we only had one customer refuse service(because of the earlier servicing). Having such an odd day, I took my time with the new guy to help him out. I also took time to make notes on my paperwork(especially for those who'd been serviced earlier in the week). When we got back to the warehouse I gave my paperwork to the office lady and she said those were the most notes she'd ever seen on paperwork and that getting the local guys to make notes is like pulling teeth. I said my goodbyes, hoped in the Kia rental and headed half an hour south to the Buc-ee's in Richmond, Ky. I picked up some merch and one of their three meat sandwiches, hopped in the car and headed back to Lexington(with a stop off at a Casey's off of I-75 for dessert). Walking into the liquor side I noticed 1/2 pts. priced at $1.60-$2.00, but 750mls were priced at $18.50. I mentioned that to the cashier and she said it was a huge pricing error. Kind of like when going to the Casey's across from the hotel that had shots of Woodford Reserve for $3.99, but when I bought them they rung up as $1.99. I drive home tomorrow, spend the next week local and then head out Baltimore. We'll see where I go from there. 2

Dragon Posted February 17 Posted February 17 It's different kind of communism, they switched from their command socialism to state capitalism, they lifted out 800 million out of poverty and created proper middle class over time.
Cobra Commander Posted February 17 Posted February 17 the people who set up a YouTube stream from a balcony in New Orleans knew exactly what they were doing for days like today
Cobra Commander Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Gonna check the various detectors in the house after having a dream that YouTube changed its name to “B” 2
driver Posted February 21 Posted February 21 The first leg(ATL) of the flight to Baltimore was superb. We landed and I headed from terminal B to terminal A to catch my connection and some coffee. Then I get a text saying the departure gate has changed to terminal B, so I went back the way I came(walking the whole way, not bothering with the tram) and got a Venti dark roast with a shot of espresso and a chocolate chip cookie. Both hit the spot. When it was time to board I got to check a bag for free(vs. paying $40), Take off was pretty damned turbulent as Atlanta had a thunderstorm happening. It eas interesting as we were on an Airbus 321 and I'm trying to imagine how rough it would've been on the smaller Embarqer I'd flown in on. Other than some tossing and turning on ascent, it was smooth sailing until the descent had some bumpiness(but less than half as much when climbing). When we landed it was an adventure to find the car rental counter(hint: at BWI it's three miles off site), while waiting for the rental shuttle I ran in for a pitstop and came out to see the shuttle leaving. So I waited a few minutes and here came the shuttle. I got my Accord rental and headed to the hotel. The hotel wasn't ready, so I hit up Chap's Pit Beef in Glen Burnie for a Jennie Special and a large mac-n-cheese. Then I looked for a liquor store nearby(and there was one directly across the parking lot)(I read their reviews and headed to another(Christo's). I picked up a sixer of Natty Bo and a pint of Wild Turkey 101. The night is set. Then I found out they're expecting 3-6 of snow by Monday morning. Glad I'm just riding shotgun this week. It's supposed to be a cakewalk in the park...unlike my next stop, The next stop is Anchorage, AK(the second week in March). Instead of a Sunday-Friday week(four work days/two travel days), it's a Sunday-Monday(five work days, two travel days, one day to sight see). The return flight is a redeye leaving at 9 PM and arriving at 10 AM(including time zone changes/layovers). Barring some sort of Snowpocalypse I plan on hitting up Primanti Bros. tomorrow. 1
Contentious C Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Just a misspelling of Natty Boh (Natural Bohemian, Baltimore legend for those who really didn't know)? It's...OK. Just PBR in a different can, more or less. 2
Curt McGirt Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Yeah I really haven't heard of it before, in all my years. Weird.
NikoBaltimore Posted February 23 Posted February 23 It's weird how Natty Boh hasn't been brewed in Baltimore for decades, got gobbled up by another company and is a slightly better PBR yet it's somehow still wildly beloved in MD. The best Natty Boh that's actually brewed in MD is Peabody Height's Ole Oriole Park. Or if that's not around Heavy Seas's Bodacious Blonde gets the job done quite well and is more available in stores now than Ole Oriole Park (assuming you have time for these which you understandably may not given work travel)
Bustronaut Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Fell backwards down the garage stairs and ended up hitting the rear door of my car with my head/shoulder hard enough to put two dents in. Sprained my neck, and 3 inconclusive CT scans means I *might* have a hairline fracture in my right scapula. 7
