I keep saying this, but… cancel the MCU and give me S2 right now. Give me revivals of the shows we saw with the cameos this season. Or at least give me a 90s animated universe to exist alongside the MCU or something. I want to see the Avengers, and Spidey, and the F4. GIVE ME WHAT I WANT.

Spoiler

Am I disappointed we’re doing a time hopping S2? Not really, it’s gonna be a lot of fun. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t hoping for an Onslaught focused S2, especially with Xavier being inside Magneto’s mind for so long. It’s gotta happen at some point, surely.

Love this so much. I know Lenore Zann said she’s finished her part for S2, so here’s hoping that the next season comes sooner rather than later. Beau already had the season finished before he was fired, so the real test for everything comes with S3. But I hope they get this out quickly (without crunch, obviously) and don’t wait around forever like they are with the live action shows. That Ironheart show finished filming in 2022 I believe, and it’s not coming until late 2025, for example.

Damn. That ruled. I didn’t see any of that coming. I thought for sure we were heading for Onslaught.

i also came to the realization that they were setting up Onslaught for s2.

this show was so, so good. i can't wait for it to continue. that three-part finale was full of action, emotion, and story, and it all felt true. major kudos.

It has been so long since I read old X-Men books that I was happy Comic Explained broke down every major storyline this season breezed through. It was a lot. Like 5 or 6 stories and they somehow made it work.

Realistically then, if they did do Onslaught, I’m guessing it would be a 2 or 3 part finale. What I wonder about the most is if it would get into the Heroes Reborn shit, the wackiness of Franklin Richards saving the day, etc.

Hell, I’m wondering how far they’ll go with Wolverine, like if…

Spoiler

We’ll get full feral, nose falling off, Wolverine and then Apocalypse giving Wolverine his adamantium skeleton back.

If we get feral Wolverine with the bone claws my childhood self will explode with happiness.

Variety is predicting that X-Men 97 will win the Primetime Emmy for Best Animated Program over The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, Archer and Blue Eye Samurai.

And that Lenore Zann (Rogue) will win Character VO, over Michael Cera, Maya Rudolph, Jeffrey Wright (for What If) and Kieran Culkin.

Note that it’s all predictions, no nominations have been given out since it’s WAY too early, and that it could all change by next January. But it goes to show how strong X-Men ‘97 is performing, and the response from those in the industry. Exciting stuff.

I would love to see an animated 90s Spider-Man revival, but they kind of already resolved the big issue with Peter reuniting with MJ. Also, Captain America now hanging around in the present day.

The next animated Spider-Man series is Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man which was originally designed as the Freshman Year prequel to the MCU before it got rewritten. So basically like an AU MCU version of movie Spider-Man.

damn, if that dude had just kept his mouth shut, none of that other stuff would have come out. He seemed to get a pretty good 'benefit of the doubt' response from the majority of the fanbase. But no, he had to make himself the victim. and now he's the villain.

Finally started watching this, and BOY does it feel socially relevant now more than ever.

More to the point (what I forgot to type last night), what I would LOVE to see ASAP from Marvel is a full-blown Claremont/Byrne-style film that totally centers the "protecting a world that hates and fears us" message and does absolutely nothing to make it subtle or about anything other than exactly what it's about.

This finally showed up on FXX yesterday out of the clear blue! I was very happy, and very impressed. I never saw the original series through the Dark Phoenix saga so if this picked back up right from there it's pretty cool. It feels a little more... "adult"? Maybe that's just the passage of time with me because they were always "adult". Seeing Mojo was cool too and I was amazed that I saw him infecting a character with those lines in the face and I just immediately said "Mojo", as I only remember him from the trading cards.

They tried to hit a similar mark back then but got censored to hell and back. Its definitely more adult now with the shackles being massively loosened if not completely gone.

The show picks up more or less a few months after the end of the original's series finale

I might be confusing it with another Marvel show from that time, but I don't think I am: it's a slight miracle that the OG series even turned out the way it did, because originally the pitch was for Stan Lee to be the narrator and it'd be a self-contained week to week show. I'm also pretty sure that FOX Kids didn't even want to do the series because they believed it would be a bomb since X-Men wasn't a proven commodity outside of the comics, like Batman was. That's also kind of nuts to me, as an adult - a network had a Marvel & DC animated show on their channel at the same time. Maybe I'm bias, but Fox Kids was, in my mind, definitely the "Marvel" channel even though the Batman cartoon was stupidly, massively popular.

The coffee table book (Making of the Animated Series) is super interesting for little tidbits like that. Although I'm sure most of the stuff found in it is also in the book Previously on X-Men by Eric Lewald. The coffee table book has art designs and all that cool stuff, though. Which reminds me, I need the '97 version too.

No, I'm not a huge fucking nerd for X-Men TAS, why do you ask??

They're running through these pretty fast at irregular times. Thankfully it looks like FXX will have them streaming.

I just saw the big multi-headed Sentinel battle in "Lifedeath Part 1" where

Spoiler

Gambit sacrificed himself to destroy the Sentinel

and I'll admit it got real dusty all of the sudden.

Heh, actually, my second reation was

Spoiler

Rogue saying she couldn't feel him and I was like "well, you really shouldn't be trying and you know that"

Doing a brief rewatch of the original show, I'm not far in, and Chuck is talking about Sabertooth and "penetrating the recesses of his mind." And Logan says, " I'LL PENETRATE HIS RECESSES!" on a kids show!!!!

Gambit has so many sexual innuendos in the original show that I’d probably run out of breath and pass out if I tried to list them all.
