The difficulty spike in the first game was so aggravating that it made me quit for good; the only build I could reliably get anywhere with was the boring-ass Zombie Army witch, but even then, when I got to the Final, Last, Final Map boss, I still got fucking melted. Life's stressful enough in ways that come out of nowhere; I don't need that shit. On 12/9/2024 at 1:10 PM, Kevin Wilson said: I kinda side with Contentious C in this case, if it takes me an hour and I have to totally re-spec and re-gear to beat a boss I am not even damaging that isn't terribly entertaining for me. But I'm also the oddball that doesn't want any help on specing. I don't want to look up guides or constantly change it, I want some balance of what I find fun but also effective enough to get through the game. Not that I mind dying, I die all the time in games, but it has to be a fun challenge. I'm just concerned PoE 2 isn't geared towards my style of gaming if the difficulty ramps up that quick and is more geared towards people that already put hundreds of hours into PoE and wanted the next challenge. Which is perfectly fine of course, if a million people are having a blast then don't change the game on my account, it may just be a little too hardcore for my gaming preferences. these are my thoughts too. i've spent countless hours playing Diablo, D2, and D3. the vast, VAST majority of that has been single player. This allows me to 100% play the way i want to. I've never understood the culture around "builds". Like, sure, there are thousands of ways that i could make my characters more effective killing machines. But i don't want everything to be in service of that extra damage. I want to find effective ways of using the attacks i want to. Usually, that is in the most basic ways possible. Warhammer in hand, maul my way through hordes. If I find a weapon that's lightning enchanted, that's a bonus. Or maybe this helm regenerates HP. great. But that stuff is extra, it isn't baked in so that i have the exact same character as dozens of other people and we're all hunting the same runes or whatever. In addition, the online aspect has fully killed D4 for me. i want to explore every nook and cranny of the map. I want to slaughter every single enemy along the way. I want to lay waste on any enemy groups that dare threaten my world. But with always online, the respawns do not allow for that. You're better off just bypassing everything in service of whatever quest you may be on. sorry for the small rant. Diablo is one of my absolute favorite gaming franchises. right up there with Legend of Zelda. This new iteration just casting everything i love about the game to the side has crushed my soul.
Craig H Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 I get the trepidation towards playing PoE 2, but it really is fantastic is this coming from someone who spent maybe a couple hours playing PoE 1. Whatever class you choose, you basically have complete freedom to play it however you want. You really don't need to obsess over your build and talent/passive tree that much. Just put your points wherever you want to put them and an upcoming patch is going to make it much cheaper to re-spec your passive points. Early on there is a degree of difficulty to overcome, but I'm level 26 now and since hitting my 20s it hasn't been nearly that hard. Boss fights are the thing that are the most challenging, but it's not Souls challenging. The Act 1 boss was a motherfucker until we figured him out. We were also a little under-leveled. We felt dumb for wasting 2 hours trying to beat him. When we finally beat him it took us maybe 10 or 12 minutes. And before that, I nearly solo'd him. And that really was without re-doing any of my passive points or gear. The only thing I changed up were my skills and the modifier gems that go into them. I still die to regular mobs here and there, but that's because I'll play dumb and get overwhelmed and forget to heal. But at least dying doesn't mean losing anything. If there was one big thing I could change it would be the marketplace. It seems really antiquated to run the marketplace from the official website, but it does work. It would just be handier if it were in game. My understanding is that they keep the marketplace separate to avoid issues with bots. The marketplace is really great though for finding good gear for cheap. Tired of wearing the same armor or using the same weapon for 10+ levels? Go on the marketplace and buy a new one for a common enough orb. I have tons of these augmentation orbs that you can have a stack of 40 of and a lot people sell their rare items around my level and lower for just 1 or 2 of those orbs. You can then further modifier that item yourself and then try to re-sell it when the time comes for a rarer orb. But anyway, if you're on the fence or cautious about the game, then there's no need to spend the $30 to jump in now when it's just going to be free to play on full release. I will say that for the $30 you spend for early access you get 300 points to use in the microtransaction store for extra slots in your inventory, skins, effects, whatever. And I think 300 points would cost $30 anyway. A lot of the extra tabs you can buy are quality of life type of things, like tabs specifically for currency or gems/orbs, or whatever so you can be more organized with your inventory. And you can buy a premium tab that gives you the ability to sell your items on the marketplace. When it does go free to play, I highly recommend it. I already got my money's worth and then some. If I didn't have to pay a cent for it, Jesus, it would be like buying NFL2K2 for $20.
JLSigman Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 Decided to give Diablo Immortal a spin since you can play it on desktop. It's surprisingly fun! I've only crashed to desktop twice! Good way to scratch that itch between Diablo 3 seasons. 1
Cliff Hanger Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 Played 2 rounds of Rivals last night before NXT. First one i played as Luna Snow and was completely incompetent. Second round i picked the overpowered Magneto and managed a 15-kill streak. Not ready to buy a battlepass yet but I had enough fun to probably play again tonight.
jaedmc Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 I've been playing Robocop Rogue City. I keep going back and forth on it. I've had a couple of exciting moments, but some of the mission mechanics are weak. Like investigating a crime amounts to walking around and scanning labled objects until you go to the next phase. And some clues are locked behind a skill tree. Like you can't open this safe without a level 6 skill. So it kind of takes the skill out of the players hand. Shooting galleries are kinda weird, because I generally don't see interactive objects, until I've already killed everyone and I loot their bodies. Oh there's a gas tank back here, wish I'd seen it... The open world has a great gritty appearance, but still feels lifeleas for a city. No traffic, no feeling that any npc has a life or a place to go. All that being said, I shot a bad guy and he backflipped and landed head first inside of a crate and it was hilarious.

Casey Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 (edited) I have a gaming laptop with a 4060 and I barely use it so I decided to activate the 3 month Game Pass sub it came with and start that Indiana Jones game. My internet sucks so at this rate it'll be after Dynamite before it gets done (just kidding, it's at 55% but still - fuck you Xfinity) I really need to update the storage on this thing (factory 500GB), though. Between the Indy game and Baldur's Gate 3 I don't have a ton of room left. Christmas IS around the corner, so maybe I'll treat myself to a M.2 haha Edited December 19, 2024 by Casey
Raziel Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 I got a 1TB M.2 off Amazon with good specs for $70 back on Black Friday. Although between Baldur's Gate and Indiana Jones, I'm wishing I jumped to the 2TB. 1
Casey Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Well nevermind on all of that, because I installed Indy, booted it up and said I need to update my drivers even though I had just done that like 30 minutes before. Fuckin’ lol.
Contentious C Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Yeah, I installed PoE2. And then uninstalled it. Literally could not get past the Bloated Miller, the bloody tutorial monster, after 4 tries without my wrist hurting from trying to mash inputs. This shit is no longer for me. Someone else can have that operant conditioning experiment.
SirFozzie Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Something tells me the steam servers are quite literally on fire with the winter sale beginning. 1

Casey Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 I had to buy Undertale on my SteamDeck because the iPhone app takes like a minute to respond to any inputs.
Doragon Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 Added to Tetris Forever for free The 1989 MS-DOS game Welltris 1
Raziel Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 So for reasons (mostly sales and my son's miserable morning), I ended up with Helldivers 2 (both platforms). Ok, I'm super all in on Spreading Democracy. 2 2
Death From Above Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Gonna be honest, with all the carnage in the game industry through 2024 (which absolutely looks set to continue next year), I expect a lot of the big releases in 2025 to be particularly fucked up. It may very well be the Catch Up On My Backlog year I've been talking about for like 5 years now. Between that and POE 2 I might just be good. 2

twiztor Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 i beat Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Nintendo Switch) last night. This is a return to 2D Mario games, and it gets pretty weird at times. This takes place in the Flower Kingdom (as opposed to the Mushroom Kingdom of the previous games) and offers you some new powerups. The most notable turns Mario into an elephant, but i found that pretty underwhelming overall. But almost every level adds a unique twist to the Mario experience. It'll have you assuming the form of Goombas and blobs, bouncing on giant round hippos, flying on a big blue luckdragon, and a dozen other new gameplay quirks. The difficulty is about the same with most Mario games like this- pretty minimal. It does give you some extra collectability challenges for each stage too. If you need the extra difficulty, the "Special World" stages are pretty tough. I haven't finished all of these, and i don't know if i will. But i've collected everything else, so i'm happy with that too.

And Elephant Mario rules. 1
twiztor Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 it's honestly making me want to revisit New Super Mario Bros. Wii and/or Wii-U and grab all the secret coins and stuff i likely skipped the first time around. This game really had pretty excellent level design. i just wish they would've done more with Elephant Mario. Whether that be some kind of weight mechanic, or carrying water in your trunk to unlock a bunch of specialty stuff (as is, most of what is unlocked is just the purple shards), or what have you. I just think it couldn't been even better with more development. 1
assfax Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 NSMBU is awesome and IMHO underrated. Very fucking good. Especially the Switch version that include the Luigi expansion. 1
StevieNippz Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 PlayStation has a 2 hour demo for Black Myth Wukong and it totally sold me on the game. I really wish demos were more of the norm. 1
odessasteps Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Playing the demo of Dredge may me want to get the whole game.
